This module is intended to be the 'Village of Hommlet' of 3.0 D&D, and it is very successful at that, with a nice blending of sandbox gaming with a rescue-the-macguffin adventure. There's some bad advice given about asking the players to roll dice to increase tension even though the DM should ignore their rolls and follow the script, but it can be easily skipped. The biggest problem with the adventure is like its lead-in, The Wizard's Amulet, its suggested levels are too low. I think a DM is best served by using an alternate introductory adventure, then running Wizard's Amulet when the party is 2nd level, and have Crucible of Freya take them from 2nd to 4th or 5th. Also not explained is why Shandril herself doesn't join in the mission to get her beloved Crucible back. She certainly is capable enough!
