Highly relevant to Indian Scenario. This book was written in long back but still stands strongly relevant. It speaks about decentralizing, sharing informatipn on development projects publicly, involvement of local people in projects to ensure sustainable and efficient use of resources, and execution of projects. And all this is just a part of the book.
The book has so much more to offer including a bird's eye view and several facts about Indian environmental movement with case examples of actions at grass root level to bring important issues to the notice of the nation thus forming precedents to the environmental movement of today.

Throughout the book, the authors speak in terms of omnivores, ecosystem people and ecological refugees thus knitting together different stories across several districts and geographies of the country to form one single narrative.

The book also sends out a positive message as it provides several case studies where environmental protection has been successful with the involvement of local people (ecosystem people) thus preventing them from turning into ecological refugees. For example, the successful case study of Joint Forest Management in West bengal with the local people involved to reverse degenerated forest is a ray of hope in an otherwise bleak picture. It gives us hope about working towards a consensus of nurturing our environment to nourish ourselves in India.

The way the authorities have zero respect for the environment and are just an extension of the colonial system, this book will be relevant 25 years in the future as it was 30 years in the past

A fantastic introduction to the issues related to Ecology and Equity in India and how they have to be handled together. I read it soon after it was published and it changed by world-view.

A good introduction to the inequity begotten by the management of ecology. I also recommend "this fissured land" by the same authors.
