She hated school so much, in fact—spending most lessons clandestinely writing stories—that she persuaded her parents to let her abandon her education at the age of fifteen and has never regretted it.
She continued to write and her first full-length novel was published when she was only twenty years old. She moved to London in 1975 and worked in publishing before becoming a full-time writer in 1977. Since then she has become a prolific writer of fantasy, renowned for her bestselling Time Master trilogy. She has published more than eighty fantasy and supernatural novels, both for adults and children. She also wrote occasional short stories for anthologies, and has co-written a comedy play that was produced for her local school.

She gained a great deal of writing inspiration from the coast and scenery, and her other interests included music, folklore, cooking, gardening and "messing about on the beach." A young girl arrives at a cottage in Cornwall and gets drawn into an eerie adventure. At times this tale reminded me of Elidor, with apparently explicable weather events perhaps caused by an outside force.
Our heroine has to stay with her aunt for a year, and the aunt loves painting horses and the sea. She often paints pale horses with a blue tinge, and eventually tells the reason. However the real life ponies owned by the neighbours are far more interesting and provide a lot of the action. Some of the story could be scary for young readers, but the most scary thing is obvious; don't take chances around the sea in stormy weather. So, if the aunt didn't want a statue to be handled, why did she leave it out on display? Why not hide it in a bank box or under a bundle of painting gear in a cupboard?
This book is easily seen to be setting up for a series but ends on a temporary win. Horse lovers will find the tale interesting and may learn some horse care. This is a short book and didn't take long to read; I recommend it for under twelves.

I have loved this book since I was 13.
It's about a girl who breaks a statue thing, and then an evil horse from the sea comes to seek revenge on her.
I enjoyed this series thoroughly and was sad to read the final book
R.I.P to the Author. I was luckily enough to receive an email from her before she died.

Die Legende besagt, dass die Statue den Geist des grauen Pferdes gefangen hielt, das einst aus dem Meer kam und den Menschen verheerende Unwetter schickte. Als Lilly kurz darauf mit ihrem Freund Joel einen Ausritt am Strand unternimmt, zieht ein furchtbarer Sturm auf und eine riesige graue Welle rollt auf sie zu … Der erste Band der fantastischen Pferdeserie von einer bekannten Fantasy-Autorin aus England.

Das Cover hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Es zeigt einen Schimmel, der blau zu leuchten scheint und aus den Wellen des Meeres entspringt. Eine schöne Assoziation zu der Geschichte in dem Buch und auch noch weiterhin schön gestaltet, da das Pferd in der Geschichte Moonlight heißt und das Pferd auf dem Cover bei Mondschein unterwegs ist. Klasse gemacht und vor allem für Pferdebegeisterte Leser ein richtiger Eyecatcher.
Eigener Eindruck:
Lilly ist totunglücklich, als sie für ein Jahr bei ihrer Großmutter Nan leben soll, weil ihre Eltern geschäftlich nach Kanada reisen müssen. Bereits in den ersten Tagen benimmt sich ihre Großmutter sehr eigenartig, als sie die kleine, hässliche Tonfigur in Form eines Pferdes im Schrank betrachtet. Das Verbot ihrer Großmutter missachtend, nimmt Lilly es trotzdem aus dem Schrank und hat plötzlich das Gefühl, dass sich die Tonfigur bewegt. Vor Schreck lässt sie diese fallen und löst damit einen alten Fluch aus, wie sie später von ihrer Großmutter erfahren muss. Denn mit ihrem Egoismus hat Lilly das „Graue Pferd“ freigelassen, welches für verheerende Unwetter verantwortlich ist. Humbug, findet Lilly zuerst und auch ihr neuer Freund Joel scheint die Geschichte nicht wirklich zu glauben. Doch als es am Strand zu einem Vorfall kommt, beginnt Lilly mehr und mehr an die Geschichte mit dem bösen „Grauen Pferd“ zu glauben und auch ihr Reitpferd Moonlight scheint ein Geheimnis zu haben, denn Lilly ist sich sicher, dass sie es einmal hat blau leuchten sehen…
Zu Beginn der Geschichte hatte ich meine Schwierigkeiten den Einstieg zu schaffen. Doch als die ersten Seiten geschafft waren, sind die Seiten nur noch so dahin geflogen. Die Geschichte aus der Feder von Luise Cooper mutet zuerst sehr mystisch an, wird aber bald richtig fesselnd und man kann sie kaum noch aus der Hand legen Dabei stehen nicht nur der Fluch um das „Graue und das blaue Pferd“ im Vordergrund, sondern auch die neue Freundschaft von Lilly und Joel, sowie das Zusammenleben mit Lilly und ihrer Großmutter. Lilly begeht einige Fehler, die sie sich bald eingesteht, was sie ungemein sympathisch macht. Außerdem ist Lilly ein sehr kritischer und hinterfragender Charakter, was wirklich Spaß macht. Und auch Joel, der zuerst nicht an den Fluch glaubt zeigt Größe, indem er Lilly nicht gleich auslacht, sondern alles ebenfalls kritisch betrachtet und schlussendlich auch offen für neue Dinge ist. Ich finde, dass die beiden ein gutes Duo abgeben. Und auch die Pferde sind toll beschrieben und machen in dem Buch einfach nur Spaß. Das ist genau das, was pferdebegeisterte Leser lieben werden. Ich jedenfalls bin gespannt, wie sich die Geschichte im nächsten Band weiter entwickeln wird, denn noch ist das Problem mit dem „Grauen Pferd“ noch nicht gelöst. Mit Begeisterung kann ich dieses Buch an meine kleine Cousine weitergeben. Gut gemacht und vor allem kindgerecht.
Fazit:
Ein interessanter erster Band zu der Reihe. Empfehlen möchte ich es vor allem jungen Lesern, die sich für fantastische Geschichten und Pferde begeistern können.

I truly enjoyed this book as well. Two words came to my mind while reading this, and they were freedom and warmth. In my opinion the book was thrilling an fast-pased. The ending was left in a such a difficult spot, and the story felt so unfinished, that i probably have to start the next part also:)!

A solid childhood favourite which still has a deep, treasured place within my heart and imagination to this day. It sparked an almost obsessive fascination with nature, balance, mystery, and yes, horses. I must have read this no less than 10 times.

I loved this book since I was a child and felt like a reread (I need more wins). Love the grey horse statue being a force that Taz couldn't fight against. I love Moonlight and Joel and her Nan. I love the distinct looks of the magic horses.

As I'd just read a number of short stories about Selkies, this really kept that mythic mood going yet made it fit in with reality in an intriguing way.

I recently re-read this whole series as a 29 year old as it was a childhood favourite. It was just as entertaining as I remembered with some mystery and kept me wanting to read on.
The only complaint I have is that Tamsin’s dialogue with other characters, particularly her grandmother, sometimes felt strange and unnatural for a girl her age. Other than that it was a great read and I would highly recommend it to others.

This is the book which made me discover 'libraries' and how they work. I had found the first copy in my school's limited collection, and I desperately wanted to read the rest of them. My life changed when I realised that 'libraries' have books, I have never looked back since.
I loved this book in year 6, it was ridiculously exciting and oen of my favourite books of all time.

I was so young when I read this, but I remember loving it. It was special and captivating - especially for a young mind. Even now I wouldn't mind going back to read it. It was magical.
