JUST BE YOURSELF

The story is the eleventh and final book in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series and revolves around a special, pink pearl-handled pistol, entrusted to Annie Oakley, and asked to be passed along to a young lady. When she finds love, she is to pass it along to another—and so forth.

“She who possesses this pistol, possesses an opportunity that must not be squandered. Cast in the tender dreams of maidens from ages past, the steel of this weapon is steadfast and true and will lead an unmarried woman to a man forged from the same virtuous elements. One need only fit her hand to the grip and open her heart to activate the promise for which this pistol was fashioned—the promise of true love. Patience and courage will illuminate her path. Hope and faith will guide her steps until her heart finds its home. Once the promise is fulfilled, the bearer must release the pistol and pass it to another or risk losing what she has found. Accept the gift—or not. Believe its promise—or not. But hoard the pistol for personal gain—and lose what you hold most dear.”

The final story will be about Mabel Lefrak and James Manon. They met years ago when Mabel accompanied her father to business events and James came to the funeral when her parents died. While it was love at first sight for him regarding Mabel, he also understood that she had dreams, that to become a veterinarian and so he waited. Now, Mabel is living with his Aunt Carol, in the home he purchased in Sweet Water, North Dakota. James has come for a visit with the hopes of a relationship with Mabel.

Silas: We thought perhaps your feelings might have shifted over the years since you haven’t been around as much as I was expecting.
James: I was building my business, but that wasn’t very satisfying, even though it was more successful than I ever envisioned it would be.
Silas: I see. Sometimes we chase after things when it’s really God who satisfies.
James: Mabel doesn’t seem to know I exist. I’ve never seen any spark of interest in her eyes at all, and I—I know she’s special. Different. In the best way. It’s part of her allure, and I just don’t know how to approach her.
Silas: The same way you’d approach any woman.
James: I don’t usually approach women. Since I saw Mabel, man it’s been years, I haven’t made any effort to be in a relationship with anyone else.
Silas: That’s what I was hoping to hear. She loves animals, she loves children, and she is fiercely loyal. If you win her, you’ll have her for the rest of your life. That much I can guarantee.

I loved the story and the characters and their chemistry. Mabel is working with Lark and they are responsible for the animals and their welfare in the county. When James shows up, Mabel is covered in muck, but that doesn’t seem to bother him. He is tongue-tied on how to let her know his feelings for her, and she shocks him by asking him to marry her. You need to read this story, to find out what happened before the marriage proposal, why it was offered, and how they will handle the future. I loved the fact that both Mabel and James are Christians and that is a sweet addition to their story. The story has Christian elements but is never preachy.

This is another wonderful, sweet and inspiring romance set in Sweet Water North Dakota. Like the other books in this series, the pink pistol that once belonged to Annie Oakley works its magic and helps another woman find love. (Although, Billy the steer may have had a hand or hoof in it too). Of course, Mabel didn’t mean to shoot James, the wealthy nephew of her new roommate, but she fumbled when handling the pink pistol and it went off. She has no idea of its history of helping those women who handle it find love, but James’s Aunt Carol certainly does and she has hoped Mabel would find love with James. He has long admired Mabel and has wanted her to become part of his life and future. He has kept watch over her from afar, helping anonymously when needed, but giving her the time and space to complete her veterinary studies. They have never really interacted, though she accompanied her father several times when he did business with James years before.

Now her studies are complete, Mabel is living with his Aunt Carol in the house he owns. He is hoping now is his chance to woo Mabel. He never expected her to shoot him or to propose marriage later in the day. The marriage is for the sake of three young girls whom Mabel helped take care of before. Their grandmother is no longer able to care for them and wants them to be adopted, but only by a couple. James agrees and thanks God for setting everything in emotional that guided Mabel to him and, hopefully, a long loving and happy union. There both discover that they are indeed a good match for each other and their marriage is not just for convenience, but also love. Their story is filled with humour, self reflection and growth, and faith.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

This was the first book in this multi-author series that I read. I liked that the author wrapped up the book with a history of where this pistol had been over many years. This pink pistol was supposed to have belonged to Annie Oakly and it was supposed to be a matchmaking pistol. When a match was made with the pistol, it had to be passed on to someone else. It had traveled over many states and many years to end up in North Dakota in this story. It was really fun that this story also involved Sweet Water, North Dakota and Billy our matchmaking steer.

Mable Lefrak and James Long have a history that goes back over ten years but she doesn't remember him at first. Mable's father used to do business with James before his death. She was still a teenager at the time and had plans to become a vet. She had finished her education and was back in Sweet Water partnering with Lark another vet. She had just moved into a house with Carol Smith to help her out and also to give Lark an extra room in her house. Carol's nephew was James Long who actually owned the home.

Carol had received the pink pistol in Oklahoma and brought it back to North Dakota. She had plans to give it to Mable who loved things about Annie Oakly. Carol actually was trying to get Mable and James together and was hoping that the pistol would help. James had feelings for Mable for years but he waited until she had finished getting her vets degree before he planned to win her heart.

Would a steer, a pistol and a trio of sisters needing a family bring Mabel and James together?

I really enjoyed this fun story that has lots of humor, wonderful friends and family and spiritual insights.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

Pistol Perfect is an awe inspiring story of how a young man fell in love with his boss's daughter years earlier but wanted to see her get her education to become a veterinarian before he asked her to be his. The young woman now a full vet and having a need to be married asks him to marry her so she can adopt 3 young girls that she helped with last winter. The grandmother refused to allow Mabel to take the girls but said she wanted them to have both a mother and dad. Mabel had not even seen what most people around them had seen when James was around. James' face gave him away. James accepted her proposal but then when Aunt Carol brings the box out that Mabel had recovered from the shed that morning that belonged to Annie Oakley, Mabel was so excited to open it. There was a pink handle gun and when Mabel picked it up she fumbled with it and it went off scraping the side of James' foot. This became such a funny story and it brought the two together by Mabel staying near James and talking as he had to stay off his foot for it to heal. They made plans for the wedding and for the arrival of their little girls. He finally told her about how he had been in love with her for so long but had not had the nerve to tell her. But a marriage of convenience wasn't what James wanted and he told her he loved her and tried to show her and the girls how much love he had for them. It wasn't long till Mabel told James she was so happy and she loved him too.

This is a book anyone that loves a happily ever after for a couple and three little girls that desperately needed a family will enjoy reading. I give it a 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 rating!

North Dakota, 2023

I really enjoyed this story because it was SO much more wholesome than the last book. There was good humor and I got to see God orchestrating things within His timing to bring Mabel & James together.

However, at the very end, the author does a recap of every previous book, as seen through the eyes of these characters, claiming a friend researched all the former pistol owners. The high level detail shared, including feelings, was not believable from a research standpoint. It reads like book jackets.

She also claims of the former couple who owned the gun, “They weren’t even married when she sent the pistol to us.” “I don’t think they need to keep it until they’re married. Just until they find love. They probably wrote the wedding date down when they knew it.”. That is completely false. The last book clearly lays out how it was after the wedding reception & just before they head to their wedding bed that complete their entry and add it to the box. Their wedding date was April 29, 2023 & Mabel & James's wedding takes place June 13,
2023 and she says, "I had my nephew put that box in the shed last fall." That doesn't fit the time-line.

There are several inconsistencies like that throughout the collection. This is the last book in the series.

Quotable: "Mabel figured if people made God the center of their family, things would almost have to turn out."

Overall, this is a clean, sweet, faith filled story that I do recommend.

[4⭐= I really liked it]

Jessie Gussman always brightens my day with her books and this one did the same putting a big smile on my face and some great wisdom in my heart. Mabel Lefrak a single large animal veterinarian wants to foster three adorable girls but there’s a stipulation to doing so. James Manning wants to make Mabel notice him because he’s been attracted to her for years but has given her the time to get her education and start her career. They are reunited in Sweet Water, North Dakota where Billy the matchmaking steer and Annie Oakley’s Pink Matchmaking Pistol happen to also be together. I have heard of shot gun weddings but this gives it a whole new meaning. This is a clean well written humorous (at the right times) and serious (at other times) uplifting romance with two lovable characters finding each other in supporting roles while falling in love while in a marriage of convenience. Favorite quote: “God loves me, and that’s where my worth is. God thinks I’m special enough to die for, and that is where my worth is. God calls me His child, and that’s what makes me worthy. It has nothing to do with what you do, what you say, who you are, although as a child of God, of course we’re always trying to do things that please Him. We want to. That’s our goal, because He’s done so much for us, but He accepts us however we are. It’s our heart He looks at.”
I’m an ARC reviewer: given no monetary compensation, reading for the enjoyment and voluntarily reviewing so that others may know what to expect and authors may be helped by critique and encouragement.

The situation: Wealthy big city boy meets hard working country veterinarian girl. Reminiscent of another romance, Pride and Prejudice, Where influential and successful big businessman James Long has carried a torch for Mabel Lefrak since he was a youth. Mabel doesn’t at first feel the same way but the discovery of a vintage pink-handled revolver in the house of a kindly neighbor she has moved in with to help out begins to work its magic. But there is James also living in the home who has always had tender feelings for Mabel. She desperately wants to give three sweet young sisters a decent home as she cared for them awhile back. However, in order to legally pull it off, she must find a husband to give the girls a father figure. After knowing James for just a few days, she impulsively proposes marriage. Expecting a refusal, James is thrilled because that is just what he wants! There is an accident with the pink pistol and the banter between the two in the aftermath of that is full of sweet humor and playful sarcasm. The local preacher insists on marital counseling and some of the loveliest and true Biblical reasons for a Godly marriage are revealed for us to ponder. The story, for this reader, mirrors the title: “Pistol Perfect,” because that is what it was to me. What a warm-hearted wrap-up for the 11th and final Pink Pistol romance. My apologies to all of the fine authors in this matchless series but this one resonated with my sentiments more than all of the others. A virtual standing ovation!

In the slightly (ok a lot) crazy town of Sweetwater, North Dakota, Billy the matchmaking steer and the little old lady quilters now have more help to bring together the unsuspecting singles in town. Annie Oakley’s gun, a pink pistol makes its appearance when the wealthy James Mannon’s Aunt Carol acquires it to help create a romance for her nephew and the new vet in town, Mabel. However, antique guns have a way of going off and soon James and Mabel discover themselves being drawn into a marriage of convenience.

I happen to love marriage of convenience stories and Sweetwater has no shortage of them. There is something romantic about two people being pulled together by God (with the help of a steer and Annie Oakley) and then discovering the perfection in the situation as they fall in love.

The sweet story is not overly complicated but has a few surprises to keep it going. I enjoyed that the two main characters fall in love fairly easily and really their greatest difficulty is navigating the twists and turns thrown at them.

As always Jessie has fun with this low drama story. No death, grief, or hard decisions. Just the daily wackiness life on a farm can dish up plenty of Godly wisdom to share.

Mabel is obsessed with all things Annie Oakley, so when she hears of a pistol apparently owned by Annie, she's raring to see it. She just didn't expect the attempt to uncover it to result in her being covered in barnyard muck in front of a handsome man... But she gets the feeling that there something about the pistol that she's not being told. When the three children she helped foster the previous year are looking for a forever home, she's all in - even if it means finding a husband first. Can the pistol help her land one?

Okay, so I'm not really one for 'magical items' or similar, but ignoring that idea, the story is good. It's possibly not the ideal way to capture a man's attention, but I was pleased to see that it worked for Mabel - and the idea of the teasing that will go on ever after is irresistible! I loved Mabel's heart for the girls, but also the way that James took them on 'sight unseen'. It was also nice to see a bit more of Lark - ready for her book next! - and glimpses of the other books in the 'Pink Pistol' series, which sound intriguing. All in all, a good read.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

Mabel is a veterinarian who lives with James’ aunt. James has a business in Chicago for which he has recently given over the reins. He fell for Mabel years ago when she was way too young, and he had not yet established his business. He plans to move into his house in Sweet Water, N.D., which he bought and renovated years earlier and in which his aunt (and Mabel) lives. Through his aunt’s matchmaking attempt, James and Mabel come into possession of Annie Oakley’s pink pistol. It has the reputation of being a matchmaking pistol. Will it work on Mabel and James?

This book contains many of the elements of Jessie Gussman’s other books which take place in Sweet Water. We see many of our old friends such as the Sweet Water matchmakers: Miss Helen, Miss June, and Miss April, along with Billy the matchmaking steer. There is also much laughter and godly principles. My favorite quote is, “Anywhere there was joy and laughter and kindness and consideration, God was there.”

This book will easily stand alone. If you have not read any of the other Pink Pistol books or any of Jessie Gussman's books, you will find no confusion.

I received a copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

Mabel Lefrak is a vet working with Lark and Lark takes in young girls to help them out so Mabel moves in with Carol. Carol is an older lady and doesn’t live to far from the Veterinary office. Of course we are in the town of Sweet Water, North Dakota along with Billy the matchmaking steer. James showed up at his Aunt Carol’s house and recognized Mabel immediately. Mabel didn’t remember James until later on. James didn’t have to worry about money because he had a very successful business in Chicago and really always wanted to settle down.

Carol had bought a pink handle pistol that Annie Oakley had used and knowing Mabel loved anything Annie Oakley she was going to give it to her when the time was right. In the meantime Lark had took in three young sisters last year but then their Grandmother stepped forward and wanted them. They needed to place these sisters again because of grandma failing health.

You will love these stories and they can be read as stand alone but you won’t be disappointed in the series.

I received this ARC from the author for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mabel Lefrak is a vet who not only works with Lark but also helps her with the girls she takes in. When she finds out that the grandmother of 3 of the girls is looking for someone to adopt them Mabel says she wants them. The only catch is the grandmother wants someone married.
While trying to think of someone to marry the Annie Oakley loving Mabel is giving a gift of a pistol by Carol Smith, the lady she's living with. And of course Billy the steer was around to lend a hand.
Carol's nephew James has loved Mabel for a long time and on his return to town hopes he can now win her over. When Mabel explains about needing a husband James sees this as a way to spend time with Mabel and maybe turn it into a real marriage.
Will the Pink Pistol and Billy the matchmaking steer work their magic one more time?
As always their beliefs and trust in the Lord helps to guide them in everything they do.
I love the way Jessie Gussman explains the history of the pistol and all the owners at the end of the book because it just brings the whole story of the pistol together.
I received a arc in return for a honest review.

Pistol Perfect

This book started out making me laugh with Mabel, a veterinarian in Sweet Water, ND, trying to walk across a manure covered pasture without getting dirty. She was trying to retrieve a box from a shed for Aunt Carol that supposedly had Annie
Oakley's gun in it. She made it to the shed and retrieved the box. On her return, Billy, the matchmaking steer, was in her way so she had to go around him. That was a mistake because the muck there was deeper. When her boots got stuck, she bent over to retrieve one her foot came out of and Billy bumped her causing her to land in the muck on her side including her face without dropping the box. That is when James appeared. Like most of Jesse's books, there is usually one part of her book that makes the reader laugh. That is one reason I love her books. The characters and love stories are always unique and the HEA endings make them perfect. The pink pistol in the box brings Mabel and James together. I highly recommend this book for clean Christian romance. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Mable is a vet in Sweet Water, ND. She is somewhat an introvert. She agrees to move in with an elderly lady to help her out. Her nephew, James, is there visiting as Mable is moving in. She is a huge fan of Annie Oakley so when she learns of the legendary pistol, she can't wait to see it. However, when she opens the case and takes the gun out, she accidentally shoots James in the foot. She stitches him up and takes care of him while he heals.

James has always loved Mable, but knew that she needed to go to vet school and get settled before he said anything to her. Now he's ready to sell his business in Chicago and settle down in the small town that he calls home.

When Mable gets the chance to adopt 2 foster girls, she jumps at the chance. However, there is a catch.....the elderly grandmother wants the girls to go to a married family. When Mable asks James if he would consider a marriage of convenience, he jumps at the chance to prove to Mable that he loves her.

So sweet! I love the Sweet Water, ND series and also the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series. Such a great story that combines both series.

This is the 11th book in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series with Jacob and Mabel's love story. Jacob has secretly wanted Mabel from afar for a number of years. He left, made his fortune and has now returned hoping that he will be able to convince her that a relationship with him is of worth.

Mabel needs a husband if she wants to become a mom to three young girls whose grandmother wants to give them up. Mabel was in these girls lives before their grandmother took them back to live with her. The one requirement is that she has to be married. She isn't in a relationship with anyone and has no real prospects; well maybe one. Is that even a possibility? Would it even work?

Then enters, the matchmaking steer, the pink handled Annie Oakley pistol and the matchmakers from town. Anything is possible with this combination.

This is a sweet, clean, quickly progressive romance between two good people who just want to be happy.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

This is book 11 in a series that follows a pistol first owned by Annie Oakley as it is passed down from one woman to another through the years, bringing love to each owner. They are The Pink Pistol Sisterhood.
This is a marriage of convenience story featuring Mabel LaFrak, who first appeared with her sister Gladys in Jessie Gussman's book, Cowboy Wanting Everything. Here's my favorite quote from the book, which sums up the whole story: "he didn't want to keep her from what she was born to be. He just felt that he was born to be her husband." This is a sweet story, with moments of humor, and deep conversations about marriage and family values. James Mannon, who has loved Mabel since she was in high school, has returned North Dakota hoping to connect with her. Mabel has the opportunity to adopt three girls, but only if she's married. Unfortunately, Mabel accidentally shoots her intended groom with Annie Oakley's pistol. If you enjoy a clean romance with humor and true love, I recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book, which I really enjoyed, and this is my honest opinion.

A clean, feel-good western romance.

Mable Lefrak moved in with her aging neighbor to help out. She had always been fascinated by anything Annie Oakley. When Carol told her about a box containing an antique belonging to Annie that was stored in her shed, Mabel was eager to see it even if it was on the other side of a manure-filled barnyard. Mabel wound up covered in manure just before a face-to-face meeting with Carol’s nephew, James.

James had been interested in Mable for years but had to wait until she grew up and hoped she didn’t find someone else in the meantime. Mabel was always more interested in her veterinary practice than she was in men so maybe there’s a chance for him if he can come up with a way to woo her. Three little girls give him the opportunity he needs.

Jessie Gussman’s books always leave me feeling happy and uplifted. I enjoy their strong message of faith wrapped around a feel-good plot and a happily-ever-after ending. I received a free book but this review is voluntary and honest.

I loved that this series has woven its way to Sweet Water, ND. Mable needs a husband because she wants three orphan sisters that she fell in love with. The issue is that the grandmother, who can no longer care for them, wants them to go to a home with a mother and father. She wants them to have stability. So, Mable needs a husband. She was going to propose a marriage of convenience. She finally decides to ask James, but she could just ask him as soon as she gets home. So, she takes time to look in the box that James's Aunt Carol has. As she prepares to open the box, which contains something that belonged to Annie Oakley. She's slightly disappointed to find a pistol. It's a pink pistol. As she looking at the pistol, she accidentally shoots James in the foot!
As she is freaking out that she shot him, she's taking care of the wound because she is a veterinarian. She proposes her idea and James accepts, but he wants a real marriage. Can Mable get past her issues to get her HEA?

This is a delightful story of the matchmaking pink pistol. James has been in love with Mabel for years but from a distance. Mabel has achieved her dream of becoming a vet and has no thoughts of having a husband and family. When 3 young girls that Mabel had fallen in love with when helping to care for them are in need of a home, she steps up and offers to take them. The crimp in the plan is that their grandmother will not give them up except to a couple. Enter the pink pistol and James. Like in 2 of the other stories, it begins with Mabel shooting James by accident and then asking him to marry her in a marriage of convenience so they can have the girls. As they both agree that this will be a permanent thing and they will take their vows seriously, love begins to grow. It was so wonderful to see them trust in God and rely on Him to help them make this family a reality. A wonderful ending to this series.

I can't quite decide what trope(s) really fit this book. There is some matchmaking so that is accurate. It is kinda a second chance romance except it is just one sided. It is kinda insta-love except he has loved her for years. It is a marriage of convenience except that he wants to marry her because he loves her. I don't know. Maybe more tropes than that even. Certainly isn't just one trope to be sure.

I enjoyed this story. Their first two meetings are rather amusing and I wouldn't want to experience either of them personally. Ha ha. I liked the characters and I was happy for them in their decisions even if it was really fast on her side. The little girls were cute and I didn't doubt that they would become a family devoted to each other.

This is a feel good, positive read.

Sometimes people from the past pass into your life again at a later time. You might shake your head a little and try to remember where you met them before, and even when you remember, they might not end up to be exactly who you thought they were.

This was the case with both Allen and Mabel. Followers of Gussman’s Coming Home to North Dakota might remember Silas and Gladys’s story, in which they played minor roles. Mabel is all grown up and is a veterinarian, while Allen remains a businessman.

Brought together by some fun combination of a matchmaking aunt, a romantic bull, and a pink pistol- what could go wrong? Well, from the first page Jessie writes an interesting tale full of mud, orphans, love, old houses, animal births, and Annie Oakley’s pistol! How could that be anything but fun?

I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Mabel is a veterinarian and works with another veterinarian who also provides housing and direction for young women. In order to make room for others, Mabel moved out and is living with an elderly lady. When Mable finds out the three young girls who she had worked with previously were returning, but the grandmother wanted them placed with a couple, Mable thinks about finding a man willing to enter a marriage of convenience. The nephew of the woman she lives with, James is visiting, and come to find out he knows Mable from when she was younger. She decides to ask him to marry her, and he accepts, but they both decide they want the marriage to last. The pink pistol is also involved with a surprising turn. An interesting and uplifting book about sacrifice, love and trust.

I was excited to find this book was part of the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series. I have been waiting for it since Mabel was first mentioned in the Coming Home to North Dakota series. I’ve known since then that James would be the hero of our story, and I’m super thrilled to be reading their romance. This meet cute is definitely romcom worthy. And, oh wow, some of these scenes definitely provoked a reaction out of me. Lol.
Mmm. A lesson in humility. Without fail, Gussman’s books always highlight something I can work to improve on. Whether it is in my marriage or my faith or parenting… her book always challenge me and affirm me.

James was a colleague of her deceased father that she has known since she was young. James is selling his company and leaving Chicago to help Aunt Carol. James has had his sights set on Mable for years. Well circumstances put them together and what a happy circumstance that is. Soon there is a marriage of convenience and these two lovely people plan their lives together. Sweet story! With not one but two matchmaking miracles!

It’s the last book of the series. The action takes place in Sweet Waters, nowadays. If you’re familiar with Jessie Gussman’s books, you’ll come across characters and places you know!
The heroine, Mabel, I a vet. She absolutely doesn’t know how to use a “pistol” and it places her in funny situations: covered up in mud, shooting the foot of handsome James…
Mabel apparently needed a lot of matchmaking to find love because Billy joins forces with Sweet Water’s matchmakers and the famous matchmaking Pink Pistol that once belonged to Annie Oakley!
At the end of the book, all the “Pink Pistol Sisters” are mentioned with part of their stories.
We can hope an epilogue with the 2 still alive Pink Pistol sisters from the 2 last books in the series.

When Mabel was introduced to the pink pistol, it ended up being a huge private joke for she and James. I laughed so hard every time they brought it up. What a way to make an impression. Pistol Perfect fits into the pink pistol series and into the flyboy series so easily. I love that it works with both. I also love the history of the pink pistol that's included in this book! My favorite character is Denise who gets an interesting start in life in this book. Mabel is such a loving, caring person, and to have James in her life - he's been in love with her for so long... The magic of the pink pistol, along with Billy's matchmaking, can't help but bring the two together. All around, a great story!

Mabel is a vet, but helps Lark, also a vet, when she has girls staying, who need support. Now she's moved into James' aunt's house, Carol.
Lark calls and explains that the three girls that came before are coming back because the grandmother can't cope with them, but whomever has them has to be married. Neither of them are but Lark is in love with someone. Mabel met James while collecting a box in the farmyard, tripping over and falling in the muck. She doesn't remember him much, he used to accompany her father a lot. He remembers her, as he's been attracted for years.
She thinks of suggesting that they get married, then she shoots him in the foot with the pistol which was in the box! And thinks perhaps she shouldn't ask him!

An entertaining read in the series from Jessie

Another delightful clean story by Jessie Gussman, set in Sweet Water, North Dakota. James is a successful businessman visiting his Aunt Carol, and Mabel is the local veterinarian who just happens to be Carol's housemate. James and Mabel have known one another for years and James has carried a torch for Mabel for all of those years, unbeknownst to her. Mabel learns of an opportunity to adopt three little girls she fostered the year before, IF she can find a husband to be their dad. Annie Oakley's pink pistol, and Billy the Highland steer work their magic and the matchmaking is on. As in all of Jessie's books, there are simple yet profound life lessons learned by the characters -- and sometimes by the reader too. A sweet story and a fun revisit to Sweet Water.
