A rousing science fiction debut from Michael Dorn, Worf of the immensely popular Star TrekT television series and films. After cultural anthropologist Tony Millers plane is blown off course, he must land on a strange tropical island. The natives capture Miller and force him to run a deadly gauntlet through the jungle towards a strangely glowing boulder that they worship as a god. With a combination of luck and resourcefulness, Miller is able to quell the natives, and return to his lab at UC Berkeley to examine part of the boulder. But enroute, during a raging electrical storm, the rock is dislodged, crashing to earth... literally ripping Time/Space in the process.
Fun science fiction time travel novel. I doubt Michael Dorn actually wrote this but instead was the two authors on the title page. Tony Miller barely escapes an island with his friend as a tsunami crashes over it eliminating everything. After flying away the plane stops and they land on another island where Tony finds an artifact that causes gravity near it. The ending is not very satisfying because it sets up a sequel that never happened as far as I can tell. Pretty interesting novel that could have been better had there been a sequel.
It’s really silly and stupid. The main guy is black Indiana Jones but dumber. It’s entertaining enough and a super easy read. I’m actually disappointed that there’s no sequel cause there are ideas here! Wanted to see how the bizarre premise would play out. Alas.
Biggest thing I learned was Michael Dorn was in Star Trek VI, I had no idea. I bought the book for the awesome cover and because he wrote it (actually co-wrote which you see when you open the book).
The premise looked promising. Who wouldn't like a world in which characters from several times and places share page time? Well...it just got really weird really quickly. Sure, Dorn has seen a lot of weird during his time on Star Trek TNG. But...I just wound up with that infamous "What the bleep did I just read?" feeling.
