Abigail Trafford masterfully braids two the culture and history of an accomplished East Coast family well-anchored in time and place, and the life of an adventurous journalist navigating her way through new territories—professional and personal in diverse locales including Paris, Washington, D.C., Houston and Australia’s Northern Territory.
I enjoyed this book. I know the area and could identify with some of the locations and experiences she talked about. It was in places a very sad story but the author concentrates on the strength of an extended family in replacement for a weak nuclear family. Her discussion of how mental illness was handed in the 50's and 60's is a stark reminder of a past that I hope we have moved beyond.
