Usagi goes from village darling to castle clown, but that's not going to stop her from doing her best! She's going to get her man and become a ninja, and not even two super-skilled shinobi beauties can stop her!
Usagi is the granddaughter of the leader of a prestigious ninja village, but she's such a klutz that she's never made it out of the kiddie class. Frustrated with Usagi's lack of progress, her grandfather sends her to marry Lord Hanzo and have lots of ninja babies. But the lord has no interest in her or her childbearing potential!
Hanzo is waiting for Usagi to qualify as a ninja before marrying her, but Usagi doesn't seem to be getting any closer to achieving her goal. Frustrated by the long wait, her great-grandfather decides to call off the engagement!
She is a Japanese manga artist who does mainly shojo manga. Her works are primarily serialized in Margaret magazine, with series published in collected volumes by Shueisha, though she has also been featured in fellow Shueisha publication Ribon, as well as illustrating the novel adaptation of her own Stepping on Roses series in Cobalt.
Goemon needs to back off! Like stop forcing yourself on someone who doesn't love you, ugh! Hanzo is getting on my nerves too as he so wishy washy but it was nice to see him act a little more romantically with Usagi. Also, Usagi looks so much cuter with shoulder length hair, I wish that was her default hairstyle.
I do like seeing Usagi going on actual missions/assignments. I really hate how she's so incapable even this far into the series, but considering she's 15, I can't say I'd do much better at her age if I were her though I definitely would not be as love crazy or obsessed with a love as she is. She's a very immature character and I wish we got to see more of her emotional growth. She should've really reigned in on the love crazy by now.
I've never been so happy in my life! The romance really progressed in this volume, and it was great! I had so much fun reading it, and would highly recommend it to fans of the earlier books in the series. I can't say more because of spoilers, but it was wonderful!!
If you like twists in historical settings, and you are just looking to see if the series is still worth the read by book 7, this is a great choice. The story is getting so much better! I'm looking forward to the next one.
First off, why us Usagi's hair suddenly purple on the cover? This change annoyed me. It is a cute cover otherwise. I loved seeing Hanzo in the all black Night Ninja look. How different! He is so terrible at expressing his feelings in this! And what he wants to do "for the sake of the misssion" was such on OMG moment. I had to completely stop. I laughed but was also so disappointed in him for that moment! I worry that Usagi is also really underestimating Ranmaru but I love seeing her undercover.
After Hanzo and Usagi's engagement is broken off, Usagi returns to Hojiro. Hanzo and Usagi head out together on a mission at Azuchi castle to meet with Nobunaga.
