A new poetry collection illustrated by the incomparable Michael Hague
Do you know what a spider wishes for?
No rain. Many flies. Gentle feet that take no notice of one so small. That's all.
How about a sheep? In this ode to animals big and small, furry and slimy, airborne, aquatic, and land loving, a variety of poems celebrate the lives of animals. Beautifully illustrated with lavish paintings by Michael Hague, this playful collection is a perfect read for animal lovers of all ages.
Michael Hague is renowned as the illustrator of many children's classics, including editions of The Wizard Of Oz, Peter Pan, The Hobbit, and The Velveteen Rabbit. He also illustrated The Book of Ghosts, Where Fairies Dance, The Book of Wizards, and The Book of Fairy Poetry as well as wrote and illustrated the graphic novel in The Small. Michael lives with his wife, Kathleen, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Poems about animals are often some of children’s favorites. These poems can be read and shared individually or as a part of a storytime. The art can also be studied and appreciated. This book is a good gift book or a good display book for National Poetry Month or a display about animals or nature.
Sweet rhymes, the kiddo (3 years old) wasn't terribly interested but I've been trying to introduce more poetry. Unfortunately some of the poems promote animal exploitation (although one promotes setting caged birds free!).
