Mostly an art book of the beautiful paintings of Rien Poortvliet, this is a tribute to all God has given us, especially the diversity of the animal kingdom. The beautiful artwork reminds us of the complexity of nature and the sparse, but poignant text gives glory to the Creator and warns us of the folly of mankind in decimating species from the earth.

This is a book I am growing old with -- as in, it will age with me because I can't put it down. It's always near by. A terrific look into the life and talents and voice of this mystical artist. The books format and collection of images is wonderfully served by this title; the images of the animals will stop you in your tracks. I've given it away as gifts to very dear friends. This book sticky fairly close to the biblical account. The artwork is absolutely beautiful and captivating. While the book does not focus on the redemptive storyline at all, it is a lovely work to consider the diversity and beauty of God's creation.

Perfect: dromerig, eervol en met kunstzinnig oog. Zijn tekeningen onthullen een diep inzicht en liefde voor de dieren, en ze zullen we blijven verbazen! Hoe iemand zo kan tekenen en schilderen!

Hij neemt je mee op reis door zijn meanderende overpeinzingen, en zal je helpen zelf óók weg te dromen. De tekenaar en tevens auteur maken tussendoor grappige en doortastende opmerkingen die je laten nadenken.

Het is het mooiste kunstboek wat ik heb, en is perfect om door te bladeren, en leuk om af en toe open te slaan. Het zal je kinderen liefde voor de natuur mee-geven. Zijn religieuze inborst is mystiek en opent de orthodoxe mythe tot het sprookjesachtige; hij laat de beelden zelf spreken, en weerhoudt zich ervan te oordelen wat waar en niet waar is. Zo mag het sprookje parallel bestaan aan de Bijbel (en onze wereld). Dit is ook zo fijngevoelig in zijn andere boeken. Een meester.

Ik prijs dit boek zeer hoog aan, en raad daarnaast de Kabouter boeken aan. De liefhebben zal al gauw de rest van zijn oevre willen aanschaffen.

Four stars just for the animal artwork in this book. The rest is historically inaccurate and was a bit crazy. How did many of the animals cross large bodies of water or whole continents to get to Noah? Always seems to be the one thing left out of the story of Ark story.
