I have the hardcover published 1902. You are to read Goetschius's The Homophonic Forms of Musical Composition before hand and have it with you as you read this book. This book is only for serious students. My reason is he references composers works for examples throughout. For example, he will tell you to go to Bach's Prelude 13, Vol. II of Well Tempered Clavier measures 11-13 to find an example of such and such. I'm amazed at the amount of references he gives from Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, etc. You will need access to these books or you are not getting the full value of it. This should not be your first or only book on the subjects. This book is made to be studied, so your going to have to read the book, the examples, and check the references several times.
