Poppy's flying high, but is everything about to come crashing back down?
When a plane crash-lands in Crissy Field, Poppy and Ophelia are called in to help. The case initially seems to be fairly inocuous, until they discover one of the victims was dead before the plane hit the ground.
While the case quicky veers in an unexpected direction, this isn't the only part of Poppy's life experiencing unexpected turbulence. Her mother's in town, and Poppy might be paranoid, but she thinks there's something going on with her new writer's group. And why is Nick suddenly unreachable?
Poppy knows she's got to find the killer, but there's danger lurking, too. Will Poppy get to the bottom of this case before she finds herself in a nosedive?
4.75 stars I absolutely love this series. It’s intelligent, interesting, varied and has depth. The crime is layered and intriguing, the plot is fast-paced and easy to read, and the characters show growth from book-to-book. Each cozy mystery stories is quick, engaging, addictive and highly entertaining. I eagerly look forward to the next.
Put Pen to Perpetrator by Jasmine Webb is another fun Poppy Perkins mystery. Poppy helps solve another case with some exciting subplots. The clues pointing to the perpetrator were so subtle I don’t think I could have ever guessed whodunnit in a million years.
I am giving this book 4 stars for a couple of reasons. First, the book is quite fun and falls into the series very smoothly. The second is I want it to be read so people can be forewarned.
I found that there were some really sloppy errors in the writing in the 3rd book and it continues with this one. Perhaps it may be that things are rushed so care falls by the wayside. For example, within the first 8 pages there are TWO instances where the characters, within the course of an argument, essentially repeat themselves but in a way that reads as if any editor (or author rechecking the draft) wasn't paying a lick of attention. The primary villain of the disagreement tells Poppy near the beginning of the dialogue as well as near the end, in what appears to be the same words and tone, how she understands why Amy, Poppy's mom, is so disappointed in Poppy. There is also an exchange with Ophelia that delivers information and a threat that is again, the same words in the same tone, as if the author moved that line to another point but forgot to eliminate the first usage.
Small issues, I know, but it still draws one out of the world of Poppy and disturbs the flow of the reading. This may not be fair but not only do I expect more from authors but here, in particular, where Poppy is a writer and much is made of the arduous tasks of rereading and rewriting and struggling to get the best product, it seems as if Ms. Webb is telling us, the readers, to hold her to a higher standard. Then missing that standard by a wide margin.
This series is a real "soap opera" where there are ongoing characters and issues that carry over from book to book, some getting solved, new ones introduced, and tension and anticipation building along the way. Very frustrating yet one of the things that makes the series so fun as it's done quite well. Damn you Jasmine Webb!! [:-)]
Poppy and Nick have drawn close and have begun to fall in love. Ophielia has taken Poppy under her wing and given her what her mother refused to, confidence. After loosing her eyebrows in a fire, and the ends of her hair, Ophielia sends her to a special stylist giving her an all new look, which bolsters her confidence even more. Meeting with her mother that same evening for dinner, her mom starts in on her again at the same time a rapeist mother threatens her saying her son did nothing wrong, her mother backs the woman up instead of her own daughter. That is the last straw for Poppy, and tells her mother to befer contact her again. This was an emotional see-saw especially if you have ever fought with your parents over your life choices. Excellent Reading
Poppy is back with another intriguing case to solve. Poppy is ready to have her book published and prove to herself (and possibly her mother) that she is truly an author when she and Ophelia are called in to solve another interesting case. Lots of twists and turns kept me reading straight through to the end. I love Ophelia's team and how each woman has her own strengths. Poppy is really coming into her own and realizing the importance of her values and how much they differ from her mother's. I've been rooting for her from the start of the series, and this book kept me engaged and looking forward to the next one.
Im annoyed that I wasted my time, the love story kind of sucks, her dude is just there there’s no emotion or anything built up, so honestly its like a brother that she sees occasionally. The worst part is the end of the book the writing gets sloppy and she once AGAIN has a name switch and puts the villain instead of her MOM!! Like how do you fuck that up?!
This book has sooo many mistakes.. I found it really frustrating as a main storyline throughout the series is Poppy’s Book being edited.
My least favourite mystery in the series so far and it felt like Ophelia wasn’t very present in this book. The mystery was forgotten about until the last 10 pages but I really like the characters so it was still enjoyable
I have actually laughed out loud at things in her books…not to say they are all humor…they are modern mysteries. It is always a surprise to find out “who did it”! I have read over a hundred mysteries, and these are unique in a very good way!
Nicely paced and I love the story within a story but page 67 threw me off a bit with "poppy and I drove". Had to go back and reread thinking I missed something
