Leif by Celeste Barclay
Viking Glory series #1. Historical romance with erotica elements.
Leif Ivarrson just returned home but to keep his clan safe, he leaves to find his destiny.
Sigrid Torbensdottir is a seer. Her visions put her in danger from enemies that want her gift. Leif comes to her rescue and together they reach for them destiny. With their free will.

The Viking Glory series is steamy historical stories that will transport you back to the world of the ancient Norse with brave heroes and even stronger heroines. This series follow the lives and loves of five friends. Brother and sister, Leif and Freya, along with their cousin, Bjorn, and their friends Syrian and Tyra as they sail the seas and conquer hearts. It’s a fair book series where each book can be read as a stand-alone but is best read as part of the series.

Very steamy interludes between battles with enemies and visions.

DNF at 13%. I suppose I could have tried a bit harder to like it but there was something about the writing style that made the story about Vikings sound too modern for me. Do not get me wrong, there were no modern words used but I didn't get the ancient vibe, medieval feel from the story. That right there told me I would not like it. Then another thing that just threw me off was the fact that for whatever reason the characters especially ladies smelled like flowers despite being held captive without, I am sure, personal hygiene essentials provided. Lets not kid ourselves that they had fantastic soap bars strewn all over their village... Sigh. This author is not for me. Into the nope pile. (I just don't have time to read these days, so if I am not enjoying the story from the onset, it's got to go)

Leif by Celeste Barclay is a new series, "Viking Glory", and what a beginning. Well written, great world building, with a well crafted storyline, and powerful characters. Steady paced with adventure, danger, romance, intrigue and characters who are compelling and passionate as well a powerful force to reckon with, for their enemies.
Leif, the jarl's son and Sigrid, a seer, are meant to be together. They are strong and interesting characters. If you believe in fate and destiny, challenges and struggles to find a HEA, than LEIF, is a story for your next reading adventure. LEIF is a complex but enjoyable Viking Romance. Fans of Ancient age, Vikings, Romance, adventure and Historical history, will enjoy LEIF, in my humble opinion. Masterfully written. Powerful and compelling. I can't wait until the next "Viking Glory" adventure is released.

"I voluntarily received a complimentary copy, however, these are my honest opinions. I was in no way required nor compensated to write a review."

Leif is book one in The Viking Glory Series by Celeste Barclay. In her blog, Barclay says that this new series is to follow five friends and their stories. I found this book to be very complicated and difficult to follow. It was so hard to follow that I finally started it over with a notebook next to me so that I could jot down the names of the characters and identify them. By chapter three, Barclay had already introduced thirteen separate individuals - way too many and way too confusing - with more characters to come. All with difficult Viking names. Basically it’s a story of the love between a seer Sigrid and a warrior Leif. There is a lot of sex in the book that felt overdone at times. The seer Sigrid tends to be loquacious and at those moments the pace of the story slows down and feels like a narrative. I did like the tension filled relationship between Freya and Eric. But they are side characters. The hero Leif is a likable person and authentic in his actions as a Viking. I liked how Barclay infused rituals and words of the Vikings into her writing. The wedding at the end is probably as authentic as we can know of their rituals.
Overall, I think the plot should have been simplified and quite a few characters eliminated.

A good story, but I was torn about my rating, maybe preferring to give it three and a half stars. These a lot of strategies and battle movements confounded with the seer’s predictions and sights. Interesting characters throughout and some steamy scenes, keeps you enthralled.

A steamy medieval romance between Viking warrior Leif and the seer Sigrid, whose visions foretold that fate intended them to be together.

With enemies and family members who seek to drive them apart, their love overcomes all obstacles and endures against seemingly insurmountable odds.

Highly recommended!

Leif & his younger sister Freya are the only children of Ivar Sorenson when Rangvald Thorsson a neighbouring jarl arrives & wants to join forces against Hakin Hakinsson who wants both their lands for himself. Ivar agrees & sends Leif, Freya with their longboats to evacuate their people from the coast but before they depart Erik, Rangvald’s son arrives in a fishing boat to say Sigrid their seer has been captured. Leif & Theya set sail to rescue Sigrid.
I must admit I’ve not read many Viking novels but I’ve loved the authors other books so started this book with mixed feelings. I found it to be a very well written engrossing read that I devoured in under a day. There was plenty of intrigue, betrayal & of course romance. The characters were well portrayed & had depth. Leif is a virile, strong, courageous Viking who loves them & leaves them until he meets Sigrid & he’s immediately smitten. Sigrid is a seer who also walks with the spirits & she has foreseen what will happen between Leif & herself. The secondary characters were also well portrayed & I look forward to hopefully reading their stories. The pace of the book was very good & I totally lost myself in it. Whilst I found the epilogue very satisfying it also left me with questions & wanting to read the next in the series!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

When your future is forseen, there is not much you can do about it! Leif just does not know it yet until he meets Sigrid, a seer who is the cousin of the neighboring Jarl. Leif himself is the son of a Norweigian jarl and he is sent on a quest to find Sigrid. When he finds her she utters"You, It's You." She had dreamed of him and knew he would come, that their fate was intertwined.
Prepare to be transported back to the time the Vikings, when the men where strong and the women brave and fierce. Celeste Barclay brings the characters to life with her desciptions and settings that make you feel you are there.
Leif and Sigrid have a strong attraction and the sparks fly. But with the goal of defeating an enemy that almost killed her, Sigrid can aid in winning the battle. Great dialogue, wonderful secondary characters and a romance that spans the times, I was not able to put this one down until I read the last page.
Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series and I highly recommend this first in Viking Glory!

Wow, I really enjoyed reading this book! It has been awhile since I have read a Viking story and Leif does not disappoint! Most have been stories that were based on raiding a foreign enemy. I really loved the fact that this story brought a different take on issues within the Vikings.
Leif is Jarl Ivar’s warrior son and Sigrid is Jarl Rangvald’s niece who is his seer/healer. It’s kind of crazy when the two meet as Sigrid has been seeing Leif in her visions since she was a young girl. She can see the future but also help aid the two groups in defeating their enemies. The plot has many twists and turns that the characters must overcome to have their HEA. The main characters really create some steam too ❤️❤️! Besides the main characters I really liked the banter, chemistry, and funny moments between Ivar’s captains and also Erik. I look forward to reading more from Celeste Barclay!

I really liked the main characters in this book and it is rare that I would not give a great review in that case, but... too many things made me go , Say what? Viking longboats had cabins?!? Viking long houses had individual rooms, with doors? Modern language and cliches were also off putting. And I love a good sex scene, but give me a break... running off to have sex while waiting for an impending attack. Seemed like an excuse to insert another sex romp. We get it, they’re really into each other. Although I liked the characters I won’t be continuing the series. I don’t really think I’m a stickler for historical accuracy, but I’d prefer the author at least try for it.

⚔️ Leif ⚔️

By Celeste Barclay

⭐️⭐️

Leif is the first book in the Viking Glory series.

Vikings, vikings, vikings!! I love everything Viking. This series delivers this and some very famous names from mythology.

This book focuses on Leif (bet your surprised 🙈) and his battles against rival Vikings, trying to protect his land.

In the process he meets Sigrid, a seer who’s he’s been fated to since before birth. Leif and Sigrid fall deeply, hopelessly in love much to Ivar the Jarls chagrin.

Mons and steel rod is used too much for my liking, and bollocks makes me feel slightly sick, but bonus points for using correct terminology for the times 😂 .

Can fate conquer all?

oh lord, well, the two main characters could have been more likeable but it really comes across as though the author gave up on trying for some historical accuracy, if there was really any intention. i couldn't get past the viking longboats with cabins nor the longhouses with individual rooms, but alas. there wasn't any hope with the modern language in a story set in the "world of the ancient norse." it really felt like a fanfiction that somehow got published when it shouldn't have.

🔥 Vikings
🔥 Forbidden Romance
🔥 Jarl’s Son
🔥 Mystical Seer

I love a good Viking story. The writing in this book felt a little modern compared to what I’m use to reading. I’m also not a big fan of instantlove stories. I crave that slow burn- anticipating- buildup between man and woman. Leif and Sigrid skipped the buildup and instantly wanted one another. But a fun read nevertheless. Found this on Kindle. ❤️‍🔥

I loved this book. I loved the story. I liked that even with the seer giving us predictions on how the story would go there were still a few twists and turns.
The steamy scenes were good too.

I would definitely read the other books in the series.

"Leif" is book one in the "Viking Glory" series by Celeste Barclay. Sigrid and Leif are such great characters, and I enjoyed reading their story. Sigrid is a seer and can see things, and for that, she is constantly being threatened with being taken. Leif won't have that happening, so he is trying to help keep her safe. My favorite part is when she did get captured, and she sweet talks the guard into letting her go to the bathroom by a bush. Little did they know that she had a surprise for them later that night. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and seeing what is going to happen next.

I SO enjoyed this book!!! What an awesome story, I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. Leif Ivarrson is a Viking warrior, son of the jarl and when he meets Sigrid Torbensdóttir, his life is forever changed. Sigrid is her villages' seer and she has been having visions of Leif since she was 9 years old and knows that in the future they will be married. She also has visions and premonitions of war battles that will occur so she is able to relate what she sees to Leif so that he can prepare/avoid the outcome.

Leif is such a delicious Viking....swooooon!! He falls in love with Sigrid instantly and they have many steamy "moments"....again, swooooon! lol There is action throughout the story and it's so well written, I could picture it all in my mind. This has quickly become one of my very favourite books written by Celeste Barclay!!

This was one fast paced read!

Celeste has woven a vivid description of what life and lore would have been for Vikings. Her characters are swoon worthy and so very Alpha male! The secondary characters were well developed and the plot flowed well as for the chemistry well lets just say our hero and heroine just sizzled their passion to another level!!! Plenty of twists and turns and unexpected situations, this is an action-packed, fast-paced tale that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat!
It's a beautiful love story and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Celeste Barclay is a master story teller she just draws you in and weaves a magical tale!

This isn't just a Viking war story. It's way more. Leif just wants peace. He is sent to rescue Sigrid who is a seer. Sigrid has seen her future with Leif. There is romance but so much more. I was fascinated by the look at Viking life. This was much more of a story about two people coming together and having to get to know each other and work together. First in a series but it works as a standalone. HEA included. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

I loved this first book in the series and look forward to reading the other books. Sigrid was a seer for a neighboring clan and lived alone. Her uncle was the jarl. Leif is the son of a jarl. Sigrid 's uncle comes to warn Leif's clan that a member had betrayed them and war was coming. There were battles and complications, but the ending was great.

First Viking historical romance book I've ever read and honestly I really enjoyed it.

I liked the general premise and how Sigrid being a seer was met by so many different reactions - both awe and fear. Her gift really added something to this book, I liked that it gave some plot points away ahead of time but never with an absolute certainty of how or when that event would occur. She is definitely the queen of crypt hints which I'm sure will influence and we'll see come to fruition in the other books.

Sigrid and Leif together were great. They truly cared for each other but still did have disagreements, still did what they thought was best even if the other may not agree and best of all, they always made up in the end.

Their feelings for each other came on really quickly, but I liked how it was acknowledged in the book that it was sudden and unusual in this. I liked the history Sigrid had with Leif even though it wasn't reciprocated, it added a new dimension to the story.

The friendships were also such a major (great) part of the story and all of the familial relationships as well. There was a real sense of community throughout.

Loved the epilogue and the way Leif and Sigrid interact with each other.

I love a Viking romance, and this is my first Barclay novel...umm, it didn't go well. I wasn't impressed. The narration was odd and often not suited to a historical romance in general. While insta love in historical romance is not the worst thing and I can typically go with the flow, this just made no sense to me. Just because she has had visions of Leif since she was 9, she loves him, and just hearing about this makes him fall in love with her too....There is just no real development in them getting to know each other. I hate that. It is even worse in that the whole plot gets distracted by these two constantly getting distracted by each other (and I wouldn't say the chemistry is great due to the lack of development).

The weird number of reviews complaining about the sex in this book is funny.

Vikings with a touch of the paranormal and you have a winner. Fearless Leif, son of a jarl is called to rescue the seer of a neighboring jarl. Sigrid the seer has always loved Leif ever since she got her first vision of him when she was still a little girl. Hats off to her how she remained sane all through the years, having a front row seat to everything that's happened to Leif. I would have stabbed him out of pure jealousy the moment I first met him! Lol
Leif is a story full of action and romance and a book you wouldn't want to let go of. Although the epilogue kind of made me wonder what ever happened to Hakim and his brother? There was no more mention of them. I guess I just need to keep on reading the next book in order to find out.
