When Dr. Faye Kimble finds her car on fire, she believes it to be a teenage prank. But when her house is also torched, she realizes that someone has targeted her, on purpose. And as the arson attempts escalate, she turns to her high school crush, Colin Finnegan for support.
Colin Finnegan became a firefighter largely because of Faye’s father’s influence. Fire Chief Dorian Kimble believes the attacks against his daughter are related to his terminating a firefighter. Colin is determined to keep Faye safe, a difficult task as the arsonist seems to know their every move. The danger surrounding Faye, threatens her love for Colin. Will they uncover the truth in time to plan a future, together?
Faye is leaving the Emergency Department after working 5 12-hour night sessions in a row to find her car burning. After that is taken care of, firefighter Colin Finnegan is driving her home only to find that home going up in flames as well. This is the start of a non-stop action adventure with an arsonist out to do harm to Faye and anyone caught nearby. Can Colin keep Faye safe and figure out who is out to get her? Read this to find out but read at least these in order. If you want to read all the Milwaukee series in order, read SWAT: Top Cops (I think or something like that by Laura Scott) in order, then Callahan Confidential series in order before reading the Finnegan First Responders series in order.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vivid and engaging. The Christian ideals are woven into the story and don't seem to be an afterthought. If you like action packed Christian romances, then these are for you. Read these in the order I listed above if you like to read things in chronological order. Enjoy!
Get ready for another fast paced and explosive suspense book in the Finnegan series by Laura Scott. An arsonist has been attacking ED physician Faye Kimble, the daughter of a fire chief, nonstop after Faye finished a 5 12 hour shift. Collin Finnegan, a friend and firefighter, steps in to protect Faye from the arsonist who seems to know where they are, no matter how many times they move. Is the villain a firefighter that her father had let go or is a patient that Faye had treated? The plot in this story was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages, and the characters were great. I'm enjoying the family connection between the Callahans and Finnegans but want to know more about their connection. Laura Scott did an incredible job with keeping me guessing who the villain was, and I didn't even know. Great story and suspense series.
Just finished Finnegan's #6. Another great suspense novel from the Finnegan family. This one featured Colin Finnegan. It was another excellent story in the family series. Very much enjoyed this one. Looking forward to #7!.
The perpetrator was very sick. I thought that it might be a woman, and considered that it might even be her stepmother. Without revealing anything, I'd like to say there was enough suspense to keep me going.
SCORCHED SECRETS is the sixth book in the Finnegans Christian romantic suspense series. Faye is a doctor and the daughter of the fire chief. She finds her car has been set on fire after her shift and firefighter Collin Finnegan takes charge after it immediately becomes clear this is the work of a serial arsonist. I enjoy this series because of the fast pacing and interesting plotlines. The piece of Faye being the fire chief’s daughter left a long list of suspects. I found the ending the slightest bit implausible, but overall, this was a good read. 4/5 stars.
This novel is an easy read. If you need a nice story that follows a pattern, this is a story for you. I will say that the villain in this one was a surprise to me. A good surprise ending.
In this fast-paced, heart-to-heart story by Author Laura Scott, Dr. Faye Kimble is terrorized by a villain breathing fire down her neck as she runs for cover. Firefighter Colin Finnegan has always wanted to be closer to Faye, but life's changing events forced them to follow different paths. Now, she is in danger after losing her car and her home. Since Colin refuses to let Faye face it alone, he assists her in choosing safety first. Together, they search for the firebug, and they begin to run out of hiding places. Since the danger is closing in -- it has become a multi-person, multi-agency, and mixed-family effort to put an end to the fiery torment. In an effort to collectively prevent more people from dying, a location is chosen in a situation that eerily could be reminder of Wyatt Earp's last stand, except with more people involved. I loved Colin and Faye's story as they relearned that true emotions and love never die. Escaping together, they learned to trust, hope and love -- all in that order. Their genuine faith in Jesus set them free and gave them a hope for tomorrow.cl. I give this book five stars for the thrill of the story, the honest emotion between Colin and Faye, cas well as their dedication to serve others!!
There are a lot of things I like about this book. I love the large family and their love and respect for each other. The suspense is intense and entertaining. I love that God is sprinkled throughout the story. And the clean romance is lovely. But the perpetrator did despicable things, even killed someone, and I felt that was totally brushed over in the end. It's definitely a very entertaining 4 star book but I couldn't stretch it to 5 stars.
