I read this book about a million times growing up. There is something about Harriet Tubman and her heart for people that inspired me at a young age to do whatever I could to love people, no matter what the cost.

Excellent beginner book for kids about Harriet Tubman. It's a quick read that my kids did NOT want me to put down. Inspiring for rich discussions. An amazing woman and an excellent overview of her tremendous life. ❤️

I read this book in consideration of assigning to 9-10 year olds to read for an American history class. This book does a wonderful job of honestly presenting the evils of slavery to young readers in an age appropriate way as well as presenting thoughtful ways for them to consider racism did not end with the end of slavery and often those who said they were helping enslaved persons held racist views of their own or were flawed (ex: the American government never paying her the money she earned for her help in the Civil War, a church taking advantage of her donation of buildings and land). The author does a wonderful job of creating an engaging biography for elementary students to read about Harriet Tubman’s life and the time she lives in.

I read this book in 5th grade and I’ve been trying for forever to remember the name of it. This book changed my life honestly. A lot of people will think that my hero is Walt Disney, just because I’m a huge Disney fan. However, it’s not. It’s Harriet Tubman. She’s extremely brave and strong. (On top of that she was a short girl like me haha)! A lot of people were against her, but she never let it stop her or tear her down.

Harriet Tubman was a read aloud for our family. The author did a wonderful job bringing the story to life and engaging the reader. It was hard to put the book down as each chapter tugged at you to move to the next chapter. We were only successful in spreading out the book because of the thoughtful discussions that came out of the reading. What an inspiring woman!

This was one of my favorite stories growing up so I bought it to give to my niece. I re-read it and I think some parts are a little raw, so I hope it's not too disturbing for her (she just turned 8).

At the beginning of the novel, I repeatedly cried out and said, " Sweet Jesus!" I do not know how black folks survived American slavery. I am in awe of their will to survive and thrive! Harriet Tubman is a true American hero!!!!!

The book is about Harriet Tubman. She was born a slave. Her original name was Minty. Her owner was Thomas and he took her away from her parents to live with Miss Susan. Miss Susan was very mean. If Minty did something wrong she'd get whipped but it wasn't her fault because she know how to do some of the things they asked of her like knit and sweep.

I'll want to talk with Sam about the book but I think she can handle it at this point. It's not overly violent or upsetting, other than the fact that slavery in and of itself is upsetting.

A good, kid level, introductory book on Harriet Tubman. It's amazing what she managed to do. And really sad how poorly she was treated by the government she fought to protect.
