t's the best of times and the worst of times for Kate Stevens. Recently transplanted from the rocky shores of coastal Maine to the charming Western town of Sage Hills, Texas, Kate's career as a crochet designer and author is finally taking flight. At the same time, there are spooky nocturnal goings-on in the neighborhood she now calls home. Strange sounds at night emanating from the back yard of the house next door have put Kate on edge. The house has been vacant and for sale for months, but has something sinister taken up residence there? Then there is the problem with an online "friend" who has become antagonistic and begins a series of cyber-stalking attacks.
K.D. McCrite was raised on a small dairy farm in the Ozarks. She has a degree in psychology from Drury University and has worked as a librarian and as a mental health caseworker.
Kate had moved to Texas, has a new boyfriend and is getting a contract to sell books of patterns for crochet so things are looking good until she gets an email stalker. She stops contact with him but odd things keep happening, her portfolio is stolen, a rose is left on her front steps and on her pillow. The new neighbor seems like a nice older man, she just wonders about the recluse that lives across the street. You could tell where the story was going almost from the beginning.
Delightful book! It is the second book in the Annie's Mysteries Unraveled series. We are following Kate in her new life in Texas. In this book she is being stalked by someone she met online. Loving this new series. I was hoping for more after Annie's Attic Mysteries ended.
What a wonderful story, I couldn't put it down except to goto work and sleep, lol. I absolutely love the way McCrite writes in this story. It grabbed my attention and didn't let go until the very end
Ended up being predictable with very weak dialogue and a weak climax, where the main character seemed to lose all personality (what little there was.) I found the writing kind of amateur and peppered with unnecessary details (what someone ate, wore, etc.) I do understand not using real social media names, but the dupes still had me cringing. 1.5 stars just because I was intrigued by some of the spooky mystery bits, but overall not impressed!
