Jean Lafitte was a privateer and didn't like to be thought of as a pirate. He did smuggle slaves. Every man over 15 fought in the Battle of New Orleans. Lafitte got his men from Barataria Bay. His help in the battle got him and his crew pardoned and granted citizenship. After New Orleans, he went to Galveston.
