Sharp wrote 26 novels, 14 children's stories, 4 plays, 2 mysteries and many short stories. She is best known for her series of children's books about a little white mouse named Miss Bianca and her companion, Bernard. Two Disney films have been made based on them, called The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under.
In 1938, she married Major Geoffrey Castle, an aeronautical engineer.

Miss Bianca, Bernard, and Nils are together again, determined to rescue their Norwegian poet friend, who is once again a prisoner, this time in the frozen wastelands of the Antarctic. They encounter some friendly penguins, some not-so-friendly polar bears (who are visiting through an exchange program), and one egotistical Emperor penguin who threatens to keep everyone prisoner for eternity.
This book is not my favorite in the series. It lacked imagination, although there are a few clever little characters. Mostly the story lacked any structure or suspense. I was disappointed that the poet is rescued almost immediately, and then Miss Bianca and Bernard spend the rest of the time just meeting various arctic animals. I was also disappointed that Nils is only present in a couple of chapters at the beginning. I wanted to see Nils working with the team again!
Still a fun little book in the series and worth the read, but not the best.

This is one of my favorite reads in this series thus far! I love the way Sharp sneaks in bits of factual knowledge amongst the humor amid Miss Bianca and Bernard's fantastical adventures! Amazingly and amusingly creative and unique. Sure wish I'd had this series to read when young!

Another delightful book in "The Rescuers" series! I don't think I read this one as a child, but I don't believe I lost anything in reading it now. As in the other books, it had many parts I laughed at that I probably wouldn't have seen the humour in as a child.
The back of the book led me to believe this was another book about rescuing the Poet from the first book, it was actually about Miss Bianca and Bernard rescuing themselves after getting left behind from successfully rescuing the Poet. The animals they met in the Antarctic were all very amusing and were a joy to read about.
Though, I admit, I missed Garth Williams's illustrations. Erik Blegvad's were probably more realistic, especially when it came to the difference in size between Miss Bianca and Bernard, but no one manages to make Bernard look so lovable, round, and scruffy as Garth Williams does!

Much better than the last two books :)
The actual mission was completed really quickly, so the story actually ended up being Bernard and Miss Bianca trying to rescue themselves. And included a lot of fun facts about Arctic animals and life (such as polar bear habitats, penguin activities and eating habits, and such), though some ideas were more fantasy ;)
It was a fun read and I'm glad Miss Bianca worried about Bernard for once haha
And it was heartwarming and cute to see the Boy's concern for her :)

Miss Bianca seems a bit too righteous in this novel. It was nice to hear about Nils again.
