Extremely useful reference tool for tough cases, but of almost 0 practical use to the general public. It could definitely be quite significantly condensed, especially the diagnostic sections of the book to be made more useful as there is far too much information about conditions that would never be treated by an ayurvedic practitioner in the west.
Overall though it is a great read to brush up on you're general knowledge and revise your clinical assessment skills.
Vasant Lad's second textbook on Ayurveda gives a good overview on diagnosis and assessing doshic imbalances, with some great illustrations and charts. In many respects a fantastic textbook - well written and clear.
My only problem was that many times I found myself wishing he'd explain things in more depth. Lad often throws in diagnostics as he's explaining a concept, and then doesn't list them in one place to review, which makes it hard to remember where you found that nugget of info.
All in all a very good textbook on Ayurveda - a good reference for practitioners or lay people like me who are interested in the concepts of perfect health.
This is my go to resource book for Ayurveda. One of two volumes, it is an amazing book with clear concise charts, information and knowledge that has been written and carefully put together by Dr Vasant Lad clearly with the westerner in mind.
