No man had ever stirred Kathleen. Until now. As Jonathan Ashford stood, proud and defiant, awaiting "justice" at the hands of his pirate captors, he had touched something deep within her. He could not, must not, die! With reckless courage born of desire, she acted to save them both ...
A buccaneer beauty with blood on her hands --- that had been Jonathan's first sight of Kathleen James. But all she had done to ensure his survival had proven the young woman was no ruthless pirate wench. Why, then, did she refuse to be his true-bound bride?
Betty Marie Wilhite had always wanted to write. She married Doug, and they had three boys, the first was Douglas Jr., four years later Benjamin, and nine years later the last, Matthew. The family lived in Wilmington, Delaware. She began writing romances soon after Matthew was born. She wrote under the pseudonyms of Betsy Page, Elizabeth Douglas, Elizabeth August and Kathleen Ward.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The lover's deep fear of entrapping each other into a loveless marriage, their mis-communications and resulting misunderstood feelings aren't overly contrived, and given the circumstances, quite imaginable. Kate is resourceful and practical. John is insensitive to issues beyond his understanding, but strives to do his best. A quick fun read.
