The Bayeux Tapestry has a reputation for its description of norman civilization in teh XIth century, with excellent pictures, a variety of colours, and animal ornamentation around the borders. Not only a work of art, but a devise of war and a tool for proganda.
One of the joys of reading old books is the references to past events that are contemporary at the time of writing. In this one, it is reference that "Dr Goebels" is using the Bayeux Tapestry as propaganda for the planned German invasion of Britain.
Other than that, it is a lovely little history of the tapestry as opposed to just looking at the story it tells.
Massive fan of Turold and Aelfgyva, two of the greatest characters of all time I wish I got to meet them while htey were alive but I suspect they are by now dead unfortunately
