I loved it! But I was utterly disappointed in the ending.
I almost put the book down after the first few pages. They seemed choppy and they didn’t have a flow. But the book really found its rhythm and I was soon lost in the story and the characters. I devoured this book and couldn’t wait to pick it back up once sleep made me put it down. But…
…spoiler alert…
NO! That was SUCH a disappointing ending. The entire book built up to this huge romantic ending - that didn’t happen! He should have leaped too. He should have found them. Not a lookalike. HIM.
I’m glad I read it and I’ll read this author again, but I swear, if any of her other books go this same way, I’m out for good.
Wow. This was one wild ride! The story/plot/ time travel, and all the characters totally believable! The ending 🤔? Well, let's just say I would have written it differently, but the author did a great job adding one more twist that worked the same magic throughout this story. Looking forward to the next read by Elyse Douglas!
I love time travel novels ever since reading Judy Devereaux's A Knight in Shining Armor, but I did not love this one. It was just OK. At the risk of sounding overly critical, I thought the writing and the plot were amateurish.
I did enjoy this, and I particularly liked that it was written in 'first person', but without giving anything away, I can only say that I found the ending quite disappointing.
It had so much potential. I was hooked — the plot, the characters, the suspense — it all had me perched on the edge of my seat like a caffeinated owl. It was simple yet fascinating, the kind of story that makes you cancel plans just to keep reading.
And then… the ending happened.
The romance vanished faster than my motivation on a Monday, the finale sprinted to the finish line like it forgot we were still reading, and that lovely simplicity teetered dangerously close to mediocrity.
In short: a thrilling ride that crashed right before the finish.
But to be honest I think that I'll still try some other books from these author... cause I still hope for something better from them
This is a story about a woman who travels back to the 1800s. There she finds love and changes for the better. Very realistic with good characters along with bad people who come to an end.
Elyse Douglas – Time Passage – Reviewed 6/21/23 – Read 6/3/23
Hello book lovers; I have another great recommendation for you today. It's a book that combines time travel, romance, and adventure in a thrilling way. The book is called “Time Passage” by Elyse Douglas.
The story follows Cindy Downing, a young woman who accidentally kills her abusive boyfriend and flees to Chicago on a train. But something strange happens in the tunnel, and she wakes up in the past, in the year 1880. She is convinced to trade places as a mail-order bride who had agreed to marry a cruel, wealthy man who still loves his late wife. She has to adapt to a new life in a different era, with its own dangers and challenges.
I really enjoyed this book because it was fast-paced, engaging, and full of surprises. The author did a great job of creating realistic characters and settings that made me feel like I was there with them. The plot was full of twists and turns. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.
If you are looking for a fun and exciting read that will take you on a journey through time, then you should definitely check out ‘Time Passage’ and a new life in 1880 by Elyse Douglas. You won't regret it!
A time travel book about a girl running away from events in modern day New York on a train finding herself in Denver in the 1800's. I liked the friendship Cindy made with some people. One of those people I thought would turn out to be a bad person but wasn't, so I was surprised there.
Reason for only 3 stars: What I don't like about this book is that it wasn't much romance in it. That happened in the last part of the book. I would have liked to read more about the guy she falls for. The era in what the book ends with surprised me. I didn't think that was the end game so to speak.
This writing team really knows how to tell a story. One of my top 25 books of the more than 1,000 books I have read is Jude Deveraux’s A Knight in Shining Armor. This book really reminded of that one. Great writing, plot, and characters. It was very difficult to put down at the end of a chapter. I’m a very picky reader, and while there were a few grammatical errors and misspellings, they didn’t take me out of the story as many KU books do. Don’t miss this one if you enjoy time travel/thriller/love stories.
This Book was everything I love about time travel.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 (sorry!) I felt the ending was rushed- 98% totally a page turner, but something happens at the end, it's almost like a different writer takes over, rushed the end and left out the Marshall! Why take the trouble to bring the reader into that love story , only to take our Marshall out? Also Tara had lots to offer, instead She's potentially turned into a typical teen with Internet access.
The only thing missing is that it’s sadly not a part of a series
Wow… what did I just read! I’m so excited to discover this author. I loved the period this time travel book was set in. The characters were well thought out and I definitely couldn’t guess what was around the corner.
(spoiler alert follows…)
The ending I found a bit disappointing because I wanted to stay in the historical world with these characters and have a happy ever after. But it was only one book and not a series.
I will now go and see what else I can binge from this author.
Running away from a bad relationship on a train we find our story jumping from 2022 to 1888. Throw in murder, instant love, love found and lost and you have a tale that grabs your attention. This reminds me of another tale "A Knight In Shining Armor" by Jude Deveraux. I've enjoyed all of Else Douglas books and recommend them highly. 😁
I have been reading quite a few of her time travel books in the past couple of weeks and I am really enjoying them. In this story Cindy is a 20-Year old woman in 2021 who has just killed her billionaire boyfriend. On a train west, she travels time and ends up in Denver in the year 1880. She struggles to face her new reality but begins to develop feelings for Marshall Bryce and a young servant girl who helps her. Will she be able to return to 2022? Read it and see!
A Fun, Suspenseful, Mostly Light Time Travel Story
Vivid Characters. Though based in classic cliches, Douglas breathes new life into them; plenty of action and unexpected plot surprises. Unlikely romance and weak, unexplained time travel methods. But a fun story well worth the time!
My mom wanted me to read this book, and since I like time travel novels, I did. It was engaging, although the very end didn’t seem as plausible as I would’ve liked, even within the fantasy setting. I enjoyed seeing how Cindy got herself out of her predicaments. Some swearing/bad language involved, since Cindy is a “modern” kind of gal.
I really enjoyed this time travel story. I thought it was a little different story especially how Cindy went from troubles in 2022 to troubles in 1880. I like how she did not panic when under fire from the difference between the centuries. She was a brave woman who found herself by going back to the past.
Not wanting to give away the plot, I loved the premise and main characters, the description of life in Denver in 1880. However, the bad guys felt stereotypical and a little cartoonishly evil, and the ending wasn’t quite what I expected or hoped for in its entirety. Still, an enjoyable read.
A most WONDERFUL adventure of a modern gal thrust into 1880 Denver, then dumped back into 2022... without her soulmate she had found and loved in 1880. I've read countless TT and this is one of the best. Doesn't talk down to me and is not sappy and shallow. I enjoyed it more than I can convey in words!
It's written well and kept my interest. Wondering what way you wove the story. It has just enough description words to take me to the time and place. And I especially love that you didn't leave out what kind d of shoes she wore or how she would have to relieve herself. It added that authentic feeling of witnessing her day to day life. I really enjoyed it.
A Pleasure To Read Such a Fun and Exciting Book 📙 !!
The husband and wife writing team who write under the pen name of Eylse Douglas are remarkable writers with astonishing imaginations. TIME PASSAGE is very well thought-out and well-constructed novel. The characters are developed well throughout this rather intricately plotted novel. This novel is much like Elyse Douglas other novel in which I have read....TIME VISITOR. They are very DIFFICULT TO PUT DOWN.... you want to read read read ..... until IT 'S OVER !!!! VERY RECOMMENDED!!! There's a lot of mystery as well as OLD WEST Action ... yet , some 140 years in the PAST. The end of the novel sort of ends with a Twist.
I enjoyed this book and it kept me engaged all the way through, even though I found the main character to be someone unbelievable. She was inconsistent. I disliked her until the end of the book. The ending felt a bit contrived and not believable. Even so, the book was a fun escape.
This book has been a wonderful read. Loved the whole adaptation of time and how the protagonist was able to cope and make friends. What I thought was going to be a wonderful connection turned out to be a nightmare. But the unexpected love made it better. But the ending I won't say??? You decide.
I love time travel books - and I am willing to forgive the simplicity of this one. I enjoyed the idea of the mail order bride, and the year being 1880. These kinds of books can be formulaic, but go along for the mystery and magical tale and it will be a fun read.
I liked the fact that the heroine has gumption especially in the last few pages of the book where she calmly faced a bunch of criminals with nothing but a 5 shooter pistol. She didn't falter but stayed steady even when shot at.
I loved the storyline of the characters. Wanted to slap some. There are a few lines that didn't go the way I would have liked. Did the housekeeper get the boot. Why didn't they find Bryce on their walk. Not some stranger.
The story was so fast moving. Happened in a matter of months. I enjoyed the characters. They were nice and some evil. Glad it ended well, with them meeting at the coffee shop. I read it in two days. Thanks for keeping me into the story so much.
Elyse’s books never fail to take you to a different time and place so that you can get lost in them. A plus is that each book is so different. I am looking forward to reading all of them.
I really enjoyed reading this book... The characters were well developed and interesting and the story line was fascinating. The book was not scary. It had a lot of action in it. It was a nice balance between action and characters.
This is by far the best book in have read in FOREVER. I could not put it down. Excellent editing on top of the fact it is not filled with objectionable cursing. Will be reading more or her books!!!
