New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones and guest artist Riccardo Burchielli conclude their three-part Earthdivers Ice Age adventure! Tawny’s attempt to outsmart her Solutrean captors with a silent weapon from the future could still pay off, but the chief’s latest decree means she won’t be around to find out. Bound and boarded onto a skin boat headed across ice floes and frigid seas, she has one last, unlikely shot at getting out of this SHARKS. Giant, ravenous, prehistoric sharks.
Stephen Graham Jones is the NYT bestselling author thirty-five or so books. He really likes werewolves and slashers. Favorite novels change daily, but Valis and Love Medicine and Lonesome Dove and It and The Things They Carried are all usually up there somewhere. Stephen lives in Boulder, Colorado. It's a big change from the West Texas he grew up in.
This arc was trickier to follow as it was almost completely visual. Since the MC didn’t speak the language, we had very little dialogue. Mostly people in furs, so was hard to follow the action at times. But an interesting idea! Looking at the Solutreans and maybe inoculating indigenous North Americans to European diseases.
Loved how this tied up this prehistoric arc. Sharks! More exploring why the Solutrean theory might not be wildly excepted, thanks to Tawny! Also loved how Tawny has entered the indigenous population's myths and our recent scientific discoveries (see White Sands, NM).
STRONG ENOUGH MEDICINE - "This is my body. This is my blood." ... well, I have no idea what is happening, but the “20,000BC” scenes are entertaining. I’m still oblivious to the story, but it’s fun to read. ***
