She’s the “perfect princess” with secrets she can never tell. He’s a prince betrothed to another. Their royal obligations pull them apart, so why do they keep finding themselves drawn to each other? When Princess Filia’s brother is too ill to attend the fall festival at Alpenglow Kingdom, she goes in his place. But being from a tropical island, Filia has never experienced the autumn season. Though she feels like a fish out of water, her guide, Crown Prince Dawson, is more than happy to make her feel at home. Filia has known Dawson from past adventures, but she can’t help noticing there’s something different in their acquaintance this time. She’s betrothed to someone from her island kingdom. He’s betrothed to someone for political purposes. They can never be together. Yet there’s something more sweet and cozy going on than cinnamon rolls, hot cocoa, and crisp autumn air. But even as the two start falling for each other, Filia has a secret she cannot speak aloud, for if she does, it will change the course of her future. When Filia’s escort, a conniving aunt, discovers Filia’s secret, there’s more at risk than Filia’s reputation. Will Filia and Dawson keep their hearts guarded, fulfilling their royal obligations? Or will Filia’s secret ruin whatever chance they have at being together? “Filia and the Fall Festival” is a retelling of the Little Mermaid and is part of the “Autumn Fairy Tales,” a collection of eight cozy retellings of your favorite fairy tales. Each book can be enjoyed in any order, so grab a delectable cinnamon roll and “fall” in love with the romance, pumpkin spice, and everything nice of these sweet and clean novellas!
Want a book with a cozy atmosphere, a sweet love story, and perfectly imperfect characters, all wrapped up in Little Mermaid elements? Look no further.
I loved the thoughtful way that Humpherys incorporated elements of Andersen’s famous fairy tale. It’s hard to tell the Little Mermaid without mermaids, but this one just works. The allusions are well-placed, and the heart of the story is woven throughout. (I think my favorite part was the prince rescue!)
One of the things I appreciate so much about Humpherys’ stories is that she doesn’t shy away from giving us flawed characters that are challenged to learn and grow. Filia’s efforts to remain “the perfect princess” at all times were so relatable, and it showed the real struggle that can come from trying to live a life based on false pretenses and unrealistic expectations. I also love that her “happily ever after” didn’t include a magical fix for the parts of her that the rest of the world might see as broken.
Dawson was a sweetheart, and I’m glad we got to see a few other familiar faces! The Incandescent Kingdoms are a magical place, and it was such a delight to continue our journeys there!
Violence: Mild. Some perilous situations, talk of past war involvement but not graphic whatsoever.
Sexual: Mild. Lots of kissing, hugs, and such but all is on a clean and non-steamy level.
CW: There is a toxic perfectionism aspect of this book that is repeated throughout that is enabled by family members as well as the person themselves.
I knew right in the first chapter that the pacing on this one was going to be not to my liking. It's a novella so I knew the romance at minimum would be rushed. This first book in the series is supposed to be an autumn cozy clean romance. It was, just not much to my liking. Didn't hate it, but didn't really like it.
Let me explain.
Filia has a problem with toxic perfectionism and guilt. Dawson is in love with her, but won't listen to her telling him to back off and makes her own mental struggles worse with his persistent love forced on her. Between Filia spending THE ENTIRE NOVELLA flipping out and rehashing how she has to be the perfect princess and she's a disgrace if anyone knew her secret, and then Dawson weirdly manipulating her feelings for him by not taking her struggles into account, the whole plot line absolutely irked me.
I appreciated the author taking a tough topic and focusing on it, but at the same time it was so hyper-focused on that it stopped having any kind of impact on me because frankly I got sick of it and started heavy sighing when Filia, yet again, would say how she couldn't be with Dawson because she had to be the perfect princess. I know people can be incredibly obtuse with their own learned beliefs, but my gosh! At some point, when you think about it that much, shouldn't you be able to see some options? At any rate, I was wanting to shake this girl, and it also had me side-eye the plot going, this is all for tension isn't it? It's not actually characteristically accurate.
Filia had some nice moments at the end as she finally takes some risks to be seen as less than perfect. I enjoyed her brave moment.
So, while it was fine, no typos or what have you, I just had struggles with author choice, pacing, and how the 'Big Lie' of the MC was portrayed. Like I said, didn't hate it, didn't like it.
Filia spends too much time going in a circle. I should do this, but I don't want to, but I should, but if I don't? Okay I will, no I won't.
Then we have the fact that she is engaged and Dawson is engaged to other people. That makes things uncomfortable enough, but only Filia seems at all interested in being faithful to that. Dawson is happy to flirt with Filia right from the start regardless of their commitments to separate people.
I don't particularly care that they only agreed to the engagements, but didn't set them up. Or that they don't love who they're engaged to. There is still a moral aspect here where they either needed to end the engagements they were in no matter if people were upset or not, or be faithful to them.
Instead Dawson spends a lot of time flirting with Filia and pressuring her to kiss him. She tells him no she won't and why, but he has ZERO respect for her wishes. He doesn't care what she says or how she responds because he just "knows" she secretly wants to.
I can't believe we're still at the point of saying no means no means no regardless of if you "think" they really mean yes or think you know what will make them happy.
Even though Filia insists that she will be faithful and not encourage Dawson, she still has enough waffle moments to also be annoying.
Then we have the constant recapping. I feel like I'm starting in the middle of a story, and after some research yeah, there's a full series by the author that comes before this short story addition to the collective fairy tale series.
Which means we spent prbly the first 30% or so with Filia constantly referencing things that happened in the past. It's like the plot had no forward momentum because every few pages we had to be reminded about some past event.
And Filia is very repetitive. I have to be perfect, I have to throw this journal away, I have to protect my secret. Over and over and over she thinks these things.
Pumpkin Spice and everything nice! This book was so good! Sweet Autumn vibes and romance! I loved everything about this story, from the romance to the description of the beautiful leaves...🍁🍂 Plus, it's one of the sweetest, most charming princes I've read about. Dawson was chef's kiss. 🤌 Filia was such a complex character stuck between duty or following her heart. ❤️ Amazing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the first I've read of this author's work, so I wasn't familiar with the world or other characters from previous books. I was curious to see how the details of The Little Mermaid would be incorporated and thought it was done creatively without the mermaid element. The toxic perfectionism Filia exhibited was a plot element that felt over-the-top. Even the "secret that cannot be revealed" felt very... overdone by the halfway point. Also, really didn't care for how pushy Dawson was and not listening to her "no." Didn't care for the engagements & "forbidden love" amid that. Yesenia's story felt very incomplete. It felt like I needed to read something else to understand what was going on with her character. This book being included in the Autumn Fairy Tales series without any notation that you needed to read the series that was set in this world made me think it would be a solid standalone book, but I think it would've been better to have more character background. There were things I enjoyed about the story, but it overall wasn't a book I enjoyed.
This fun autumn fairy tale is a retelling of the Little Mermaid. This book is perfect to read if you like the fall season and clean sweet romance. The descriptions of fall in the book made you feel like you were really there. This book is very well written and was a unique little mermaid retelling. The main character wasn't perfect, and you can see her character struggling to grow and accept her life as a princess. The story gave the reader a realistic view on life while showing you that being flawed is okay. Overall, this cozy pumpkin spice filled book is amazing and definitely worth reading. I am craving some cinnamon rolls and pumpkin themed food now! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
I received an ARC, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
The prince, Dawson, is my problem. He is too pushy. Even after he learns she is betrothed to another. Also, can I add that he is betrothed too. I know it says that in the synopsis. I need to stop going into books blind.
I wasn't too annoyed with Filia. I probably didn't make it in far enough for her to become a problem.
It was all Dawson. Not only was he flirting with her even after he heard she was betrothed, but he was doing it in front of her future mother-in-law. Total ick. I am just going to move on to the next book in the series. I promise to read the synopsis.
3 1/2 ⭐ This one was just okay for me, I still enjoyed a lot of it, everything with the Fall Festival was fun!! I just felt Filia went around and around too many times on whether or not she was doing the right thing. Her "Prefect Princess" image was a little much at times. And I definitely felt some Mulan vibes in the story too, not just The Little Mermaid! I'm still loving this series, but this one is my least favorite so far.
As short as this book was, it completed a whole plot line! The author didn't overdo it with frills and overcomplications. I love filia and Dawson. And all the side characters except one! This story was sweet but had some great lessons spread throughout. Being honest with yourself and others, how to overcome ptsd, and love is never wrong!
Filia and the Fall Festival by Leialoha Humphreys What an adorable story! I loved the idea of these Autumn Fairy Tales and this one was so fun! Princess Filia is the “perfect princess” with secrets that she is determined to keep. Her attendance at the Alpenglow Kingdom’s fall festival is only the result of her brother falling ill. The autumn season is new for the princess from a tropical island. She feels out of place, but the Crown Prince Dawson is more than happy to help her feel at home. Although they have had past adventures, Filia can’t help but notice the difference in their acquaintance this time. However, she is betrothed to someone from her island kingdom and he is betrothed for political purposes. Even though they can never be together, they find themselves falling in love. Filia’s secrets however may keep them apart, and when her escort, a conniving aunt, discovers it, there;s even more at stake. Will they guard their hearts to fulfill their royal obligations or will Filia’s secret ruin their chances This was just what I needed! I have only read one of Ms. Humphreys’s books before, but it was nice because this is in the same world as the Incandescent Kingdom series. Filia was trying so bard to be the perfect princess. She was the oldest princess of the Sunrise Kingdom and felt the weight of responsibility.I definitely related to her as the oldest, she wanted to be a good example. She had been burned before and so was determined to stick to her responsibilities and her image. While I admired her determination, she was definitely fighting a losing battle. She had to decide for herself what was honorable thing to do. She saw it as a choice between her heart and what she thought she had to do. Dawson was so cute! I loved seeing his playfulness. While he did not have as many burdens as Filia, he still had scars from the past. I liked the inspiration of The Little Mermaid in this story. Different parts of the story came in, which was like fun Easter eggs! I really enjoyed the cozy fall vibes along with the sweet fairytale inspired romance. It was fun to see some characters from the world. I was intrigued by the story and excited to see the ending. This is a cozy fairytale romance, with only kissing. I think the reading was enhanced by having read the first in the Incandescent Kingdom series if not them all, but it can be read as a standalone.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required
– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone
– this story is connected to Leialoha’s Incandescent Kingdoms series (and occurs sometime after Stolen at Alpenglow)
– this is told from Filia‘s point of view
– Filia deals with intense pain in her feet & legs due to an injury from the Pirate Wars
– it is mentioned that Dawson’s mother passed away due to sickness & his sister died (at 8) from drowning & both occurred during the Fall Festival of the years they happened (past events)
Review:
Since meeting Dawson & Filia in their siblings’ romance (Married at Sunrise) I’ve been eagerly awaiting their story! I loved Leialoha’s take on the Little Mermaid tale and how she twisted parts of it to make it her own. I loved that we followed Filia as she tried to be the perfect princess while fighting her feelings for Dawson. And I loved that she failed at being perfect but switched gears on her thoughts & actions to better herself/no longer hold herself to that impossible standard by the end of the book. I loved that Dawson didn’t want to deny his love for Filia (especially since she liked him back and he knew it) and wanted to make things work out between them despite their betrothals. I also loved that the fall festival was filled with fall activities and fall foods for us to enjoy as we move into that season!
Summary:
Filia wasn’t meant to travel to Alpenglow for their Fall Festival, but when her brother falls ill she is the only one of her siblings available to take his place. When she arrives, Filia is in awe of the autumn season that she can’t experience on her island home. Eagerly she dives into the festivities around her, knowing that this will be her last opportunity to experience any form of travel or exploration. Because despite her growing attraction for Alpenglow’s Crown Prince Dawson, Filia is betrothed to a tribal chief of her island home. It’s by no means a love match like Filia desires, but she is willing to uphold her betrothal just as Dawson must uphold his own betrothal.
But with each autumn activity and the cozily quiet moments together, Dawson is becoming more and more daring. He doesn’t want to hold back on his own feelings for Filia no matter how much Filia discourages him and reminds him of their commitments to their betrothed. Filia worries that his actions to lead to more than just hurt toward their future spouses. Because she has a secret that could not only tear down everything Filia has ever portrayed herself to be, but could also lead to the demise of a relationship between them before they even had the chance to change who they are betrothed to…
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I would like to keep reading more from her. While there are references to events that occur in other books from the author's The Incandescent Kingdom Series, enough context is provided so you won't feel lost. Also, this book is part of the Autumn Fairy Tales collection, which is made up of 8 standalone books by different authors. The blurb is straightforward. It's a cozy Little Mermaid retelling told through Filia's pov.
As a princess, all her life Filia has been expected to carry herself with honor and do what is right. Throughout the story, she attempts to do just that. A past action of hers going against what is proper had a life changing consequence and it's that secret that helps her to continue to act as the "perfect" princess. Being reunited with Dawson challenges that when she's fighting her feelings for him and tempted to share the truth with him. Dawson is friendly, flirty, and cares about her so it's not easy for her to ignore what she feels for him. However, they are both engaged and Filia has to ask herself what exactly is the right thing to do.
The author did a great job in writing Filia's internal struggles so you could understand why she acted the way she did. She was unsure, scared, and made mistakes and I liked seeing her understand what kind of princess she truly wanted to be. I do think that some of her actions regarding Dawson didn't quite follow along with her mentality of being the "perfect" princess and I didn't like how Dawson didn't heed her words about their relationship. So, their romance is a forbidden one. It's also a clean romance in terms of only kisses and no bad language. I really liked the way in which the author used elements of the original tale and I think other fans of it will like them too. The description of the fall festival and viewing it through Filia's eyes will certainly make readers feel ready for fall. Overall, this was a cute and cozy retelling that readers can enjoy.

🪵~Quotes~🪵 “You don’t have to have anything in common to fall in love,” I said. Dawson shrugged. “No, I guess not. But it helps.”
By the end of the dance, when we nearly collided into each other, out of breath, one of his hands on my hip, the other holding my hand, I wanted to stay there forever. I wanted to look up into his green eyes and love him for the rest of my life.
“You won’t tell your secrets, princess, even to the man who loves you more than anything in this world?”
“I have fought many battles, and when the wars ended, I told myself I was done fighting.” He leaned in so his forehead touched mine. I knew we shouldn’t be that close, but every part of me ached for him. “But I would fight a hundred times over in the Pirate Wars if I got to be with you at the end."
🏵️~What I liked~🏵️ The cover, The scenery, the map,

We all know I actually didn't really have time to sign up to review all 8 of the books in this series of interconnected fairytale retellings. We also all know that the moment someone says the word "fairytale retelling" my backbone loses every strength it has on a good day. And even though it's not fall yet, it was time to dive into the first book in this series today!
I was very positively surprised by this book! I had expected a light hearted story, a comfort read actually. And although in a way this story was light hearted and heart warming, it also dealt with some hard themes and deeper emotional storylines. And it deals with those heavy subjects surprisingly well too.
Although it's clear that the starring couple of the story is part of a bigger world I was never bothered by the fact that it seems that there are previous books in this universe already. Yes, there was a lot of information coming our way in the beginning and it was impossible to remember everything but the story did stand very much on its own due to the important flashbacks being written out.
I also really loved the heroine of the story and especially the fact that she was so incredibly human and allowed to make mistakes, even some really big ones. It also fitted the story, her personal struggles and it created a wonderful ending where we can really see how she grows and learns from her faults and discovers that doing the right thing does open the door to forgiveness.
I'm really curious what's waiting for me in future installments in this series! And I might check out the stories of our heroine's siblings too!
Filia is a princess and she fought in the pirate wars she snuck on the ship and pretended to be a boy she was on prince Dawson from alpenglow ship. They were attacked and she saved Dawson's life but her feet got badly injured and now are deformed. She's now back in alpenglow visiting Dawson for the fall festival. She is there with her aunt who is to be be future mother in law she is there because her old brother is sick. She has a crush on Dawson but she knows it cant go anywhere because they are engaged to other people. No one knows her secret about being in the pirate wars or about her feet. During her stay Dawson shows her around and they go to a bunch of the activities that they have during the fall festival. Dawson tells filia that he's in love with her and Wants to marry her and she tells him her feelings but she still says they can't be together. Filia aunt knows something is going on and she steals her diary and tells the king Dawson's father that she was in the pirate wars but filia denied it and her aunt ends up in prison but with the help of Dawson's soon to be bride she tells the king the truth about the pirate wars and she gets her aunt out of prison but unknown to everyone her aunt is a witch and has been trying to kill filia the whole time they have been in alpenglow and made her brother sick. She poisons filia drink with a curse and it will make her do as she is told and tells her she will kill Dawson by midnight with a knife she gives it to filia and she can't control her body and it takes the knife and puts it in her pocket. Read the book to find out if filia kills prince Dawson or if somehow she breaks the curse and they live happily ever after
A unique take on the little mermaid (without any actual mermaids).
I loved getting to see Alpenglow in this book, it was first mentioned in Married at Sunrise, but this time we actually got to see the beautiful autumnal forests and lakes.
I loved Filia when we first met her in Married at Sunrise. She's such a kind and strong character with an adorable sense of wonder of the beautiful kingdom of Alpenglow. She did let her fears rule her, however, struggling to tell the truth because you fear losing the people you love is something almost everyone has to deal with at some point in their lives.
I loved how Dawson was so determined to fight for what he wanted and follow his heart. I would've liked to seen his point of view, but he showed time and time again that he wants to heal from his past and be happy. I can't wait to read Stolen at Alpenglow so I can see how he goes from the serious duty bound prince when we first see him, to the person he is now.
I think my favourite part of this book was actually learning more about Topaz Dusk (I've been intrigued ever since I first saw it on the map of the incandescent kingdoms), and getting to meet Yesenia who is a very interesting character - I can't wait to see her story in Enchanted at Fireblaze.
I also enjoyed how elements from the original Hans Christian Andersen tale were incorporated into this story. the sisters' hair, pain of walking, and the dagger, were used in ways that I didn't expect but ended up creating a beautiful take on the little mermaid.
A very different Little Mermaid retelling than most I've read. This story sticks closer to the more poignant Anderson version than the more disney-fied versions. It captures the essence of Anderson's version with references to incidents and themes from the original. It does this while telling a completely different story that doesn't actually include a mermaid, but does include a young woman torn between two worlds - feeling the weight of duties, expectations, honor, and truth.
This is a forbidden romance - but Filia seems to respect that it is forbidden more than Dawson does! Their relationship is cute and fun, if a bit stressful for Filia who is trapped by duty. Much of the conflict was more internal until the end when things got really exciting. I liked how their past threaded into the present and some of the other friendships that developed in the book as well.
This is adjacent to the Incandescent Kingdom's series but can be read as a standalone.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure how the author was going to tie in the Little Mermaid to this. At first, it seemed to simply be a story of two kingdoms. But as I read on, the mermaid elements became apparent.
Filia is such a layered protagonist. I loved the different reasonings she had for everything she did. She has past trauma and it’s apparent in more ways than one—physical and emotional.
Dawson is such a lovable and determined partner. I love how he was so unwilling to let go of love once he realized he and Filia shared feelings. He is a stubborn, determined and unrelenting force in the best ways possible.
The fact we have a past history of pirate wars and a Princess who not only took part but also served as a healer? These are such awesome facts that really round out her personality.
And no fear. There is indeed a sea witch here and I’ve a feeling you’ll love to hate her as much as I did.
Okay so first I’ve never had a cinnamon roll, and since it was a main sort of treat in this novella, I’m craving some, but I know my parents aren’t going to allow it for now😬. Maybe I’ll make them myself tomorrow!!
And anyway, this story follows Filia, Princess of the sunrise kingdom, aka the “Perfect Princess”. But she isn’t one, though she tries her best. While I enjoyed the story very much and it was good and so many things hinted at future with different intriguing characters, I was rather annoyed at Filia. She was a new level of naive especially with her supposed aunt. Like for someone who fought in a war and was a nurse and doctor, she came off extremely naive. It was annoying. But other than that, I admired her courage and I absolutely adored Dawson, such a cinnamon roll 😉💙!!!
This was a cute romance fantasy novella and I can’t wait for more!!!
This one was a sweet retelling of the Little Mermaid, in a unique way. The beginning was fast paced and mysterious. The world building was weaved in naturally, really drew you in.
Dawson and Filia had an interesting story and past. I loved getting small tidbits of their past sprinkled throughout the story. It was great watching the mystery unfold slowly. Filia was an interesting FMC and loved that her medical knowledge added a layer to the plot. Dawson seemed kind and honest with his feelings, but also intriguing in a sense because of his mysterious past with Filia. I wasn't a big fan of them both being betrothed to someone else though knowing they were both arranged helped a little. I do wish Filia didn't go back and forth so much with her feelings but I did like how that showcased her main struggle of being honest or keeping her secrets because of expectations others had put on her. That was an interesting character arc. I enjoyed their story and all the fall things they took part in, the fun events and traditions. The fall vibes were well done!
For me the plot slowed a little bit in the middle but it picked up again in the back end and it was exciting and fun! Didn't see some of those twists coming! This book also made me interested to read the other books by the author, considering this is a novella in a multi author series tied to the author's solo series. A fun, fall read!
"Maybe Autumn isn't about death. Maybe it's about letting go." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The romance in this was so cute! I loved the "we're both engaged to other people but there is some CHEMISTRY" vibes that were here right from page 1! If you're looking for a fun, romantic read, this is it! Fair warning, you will probably want a cinnamon roll on hand when you sit down to read!
I enjoyed the immersive story here. It hit on all my senses and I particularly enjoyed that I was able to perfectly imagine each character.
I loved hating Taimane. It really heightened the drama to have her there, because Filia was engaged to her son, so the forbidden romance with Dawson became even more forbidden, and there were always eyes watching for a misstep.
Ooo I just love retellings!! I was also ecstatic to read about Filia (Heilani’s older sister, Married at Sunrise) and continue the adventures in the Incandescent Kingdoms. I just love Leialoha Humpherys writing! I liked the persistence of Dawson fighting for them to be together, because if you love someone you should fight for them. Glad Filia could relieve herself from her secrets and burdens she’s been carrying around for so long and feel free in her happily ever after. Can’t wait to read more from this collection. Thank you Leialoha for an arc copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Available on August 25th!
This was a fun fairytale and kick off to the Autumn Fairytales series. I am new to Leialoha Humphrey’s books and liked the island vibe to her story. I didn’t even realize it was a little mermaid story until closer to the end, then I was surprised I hadn’t picked up on those clues sooner. I was frustrated with Filia at times for her insistence on being the “perfect princess,” but I loved Dawson and the festivities of his kingdom. I could tell that there were other stories that have already been written in the world and I’m curious to check them out now. I’m also craving cinnamon rolls. All your fault!
If you're looking to get in the fall mood, this is your book! Get ready for some apple picking, corn mazes, strolls in autumn air, cider, and cinnamon rolls! 😋 I was just telling my aunt a few days ago that cinnamon rolls are my biggest weakness, so I've been trying to avoid them... then I read this book 😆, but I could relate to delight. Filia is dealing with hiding her past (I haven't read the previous books, but I picked up that maybe she was previously in a Mulan retelling?) and fighting against her feelings because of the lie she's keeping. I was surprised by the twist toward the end and appreciated how everything was resolved.
2.5 rounded up to a 3 because I finished it. First this should not be a standalone book in a standalone series because there’s WAY too much overlap from her other books/stories. I haven’t read them so at first you’re a little lost. If you’ve read her other books maybe this is a happy continuation. After that the setting and characters were great which really pulled me into the first half of the book. But the second half the pacing was way off. Way too much wrestling, circling and back and forth. Then big plot twist at the last 10-15 min and oh it’s fixed. Also this wasn’t at all like The Little Mermaid in my opinion. Very odd.
This was not really a standalone book, there was so much backstory in it that didn't happen in this book that it was so confusing. The prince wasn't my favorite; both he and the MC were betrothed to different people, but that didn't stop him from trying to kiss the MC. I ended up DNFing it a little over half way through. I didn't like any of the characters, and the prince was just creepy, and so was the future mother-in-law. I've read one other book in the Autumn Fairy Tales series, and I loved that one; hopefully, I will find more that I like. I'm sorry if I'm harsh, but I didn't like this one.

Filia and the Fall Festival is a sweet and unique retelling of the Little Mermaid. Although there aren't any actual mermaids, the story takes elements from the original tale.
Filia and Dawson are cute together. I liked how their secret feelings for each other brought some suspense and angst to the story. The setting also exuded all the fall vibes for this autumn season.
Overall, this book is an easy and cute read, perfect for anyone who loves cozy retellings and wholesome romances!
The other book in the series that I read was cute and fun. This one was annoying. The main characters were not likable, especially the girl. The romance was eye-rolling and not enjoyable (red flags and toxic). The "I must be a perfect princess" ongoing thought process was obnoxious and it didn't really flow well with everything. It was just all around awful, unfortunately. All of the books in the series are written by different authors. Callie and the Pumpkin Seed was cute. I will still try the others to see how they are.
