What is the purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit? Do believers who are not Spirit-filled have the Holy Spirit? What does it mean to "walk in the Spirit"? In The Spirit Within & The Spirit Upon, Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin answers these and other questions as he shows that the New Birth and the baptism in the Holy Spirit are two separate and disctinct works of the Spirit of God.Chapter titles "The Dual Working of the Holy Spirit"Suffering Unto Perfection"A Deeper Dimension"The Dwelling Places of the Spirit"The Importance of Walking in Love"
Rev. Kenneth Erwin Hagin, known as the “father of the modern faith movement,” served in Christian ministry for nearly 70 years.
In 1968, Rev. Hagin published the first issues of The Word of Faith magazine, which now has a monthly circulation of more than 300,000. The publishing outreach he founded, Faith Library Publications, has circulated worldwide more than 65 million copies of books by Rev. Hagin, Rev. Kenneth W. Hagin, and several other authors. Faith Library Publications also has produced more than 9 million audio teaching CDs.
I don't consider myself specifically to be a Kenneth Hagin "fan" or follower, but a few of my mentors over the years attended Rhema in the early 80s and sat under him. Many things I teach and preach, people have assumed I learned from Daddy Hagin and just repeat it. Well that would be true regarding the things he taught in this book, which I consider to be one of the most valuable on the subject of being filled/baptized in the Holy Spirit.
I have lent my copy to a few people over the years, and it's a pity this isn't available on the Kindle since I live in Peru and could more easy lend or gift a digital copy to people. This book is easy to read and is not heavy on academic theology, which may turn off some hard core people looking for something meatier, but yet, it hits that sweet spot and is not too hard for anybody to follow and understand.
I struggled with this book initially but what a precious pearl! The chapter on love is SEARING. The words are leaping off the pages as if to search and penetrate🔥 This mystery of the Spirit upon vs the Spirit within has been unraveled together with the conditions for optimal expression. Unlikely to benefit a milk believer but for the trained or those desirous of understanding this will illuminate.
Kind of splitting scriptural hairs that I think leads to unsound charismatic/ Pentecostal views of the baptism of the Spirit because we know that only people who talk in tongues have the baptism of the Spirit (sarcasm intended). I love Hagin tons, but didn't find his distinguishing of spirit within and upon helpful in the sense of understanding the relationship of the Spirit in the believers life.
Funny thing is this book is my 100th book for this year. A very good read. Anytime I read Kenneth E HAGIN I find it kinda hard to put what I read in words, I have to first digest it, meditate on it and apply it. Like he said we need to have Faith muscle, you may have faith and not have the muscle that will go with it. Put your faith in action.
“The Holy Spirit within has to do with the personal state of the believer more than with service or witnessing or power. The personal state of the believer accomplished by the work of the Spirit within can be referred to as holiness. And the work of the Spirit upon the believer, coming in the baptism with the Holy Spirit, has to do with service or witnessing. It is a baptism of power.”
It was hard for me to keep up & understand everything he said, but overall I get his main point, "the Spirit WITHIN us in the New Birth for character, & the Spirit UPON us in the baptism of the Holy Spirit for service."
