Elysian Escapades #2

My Boss With Benefits

Rate this book
He’s older than me. He's my boss. And he's my secret crush.

Miles Huntington is literally everything I've ever wanted in a man. Powerful. Kind. And best of all, hefty.

He's also my boss, which means my inappropriate obsession has to stay where it belongs—buried in my overactive imagination.

Until a freaking hurricane forces us to share a hotel room. And a bed.

My resolve crumbles. All the feelings I've tried so hard to contain start spilling out.

Now the question have I lost my job and ruined everything, or is there a chance Miles could become more than just my boss?

*** Elysian Escapades is a NOVELLA spin-off series from the Escape books. Each novella can be read as a stand-alone.

So nice I read it twice.

A storm hits Florida, forcing visiting boss-man Miles and his secretly-adoring assistant Kyler to hole-up at the Elysian resort until the danger passes. There is, naturally, only one room available, with one bed. Oh NO! *smirks*

This novella series is proving serious fun with all its tropey-goodness.

Here, we get an age-gap, boss/employee romance, some delicious hurt-comfort themes, plus size representation in our older MC, who, deliciously, is also a bit of a gentle-giant, and of course, let’s not forget the forced proximity and the one bed situation that forces these two secretly pining professionals to take stock of their feelings.

One of these tropes would have been enough to draw me in, but all of them meshed together sealed the deal.

This story is on the shortish side of things—again, it’s a novella series—but I was immediately hooked and invested in these two very lovely men and the very big feelings they were having for one another.

If this is what I can come to expect, then I seriously need to deep-dive into Casey Cox’s book-backlog, because this story hit the dang spot!

***A special thanks to the author for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars. This was a really fun read! It’s always a little harder with shorter stories because we don’t get as much time with the characters and they also don’t get as much time with each other. In this case the MCs have known each other for 9 months so it doesn’t feel like instalove even though most of the book takes place in just a couple days. I really like when there is past history, makes everything more believable.

I also really enjoyed how much Kyler loved Miles’ hefty body. He didn’t love him in spite of his size, it was just part of who Miles was and why Kyler was so attracted to him. Love that real-life portrayal.

Even though it’s a shorter book I felt like we got to know the characters really well as they got to know each other more outside of their work relationship. If you’re looking for a fun, short read with a really cute age-gap relationship then I absolutely recommend this book!

I think I normally refrain from rating novellas because they’re usually too short for me to feel like it’s a complete story ? While that is also the same case here, the story is definitely too short but not in the sense that it didn’t really feel complete but in the sense that I really wanted it to be a full length novel. 🥺

So I’m going to rate it at 4 stars, while I wanted A LOT more, what I got was still enjoyable.

Boss/Employee ✔️
Age gap ✔️
Body size difference, hefty ✔️
Forced proximity ✔️
Kind MCs ✔️
Mutual Crushing ✔️
Hurt/Comfort ✔️
HEA ✔️

Kyler(Assistant) and Miles(Boss)have been working together for 9 months, secretly crushing on each other. Miles has tried to get to know Kyler on a more personal level but Kyler has kept everything strictly professional so Miles assumes Kyler isn’t interested in anything past their professions tho this changes when they’re forced to spend time together during a hurricane storm.

I expected this to just be full of spice considering how short this was but I was pleasantly surprised. They spent some time getting to know each other better before anything physical happened and I LOVED it.

I really wish this was a full length novel. 🥺
It was a little jarring when we got the 6 month time jump, cos I’m greedy and I wanted more! 🥲

. . . .

“He lifts his chin, giving me his full attention. "I don't do casual. When I have sex, it means something. I need to know—"

"It does." I cut him off. "It means something to me, Miles… You mean something to me."

YES! MORE OF THIS PLS.
It’s so refreshing to see MCs who aren’t just interested in getting off. ☺️

. . . . .
Miles is a little bit insecure about his weight but Kyler thinks he’s sexy as hell.

“ He's a fucking god, the sexiest man alive hands down. The best bit? He's now starting to believe that himself, too. There's nothing sexier than seeing someone you love growing in confidence, accepting themselves fully.”

My ratings always reflect my enjoyment of the story.

Loved this novella!!!
I mean, I always love the boss/employee trope always, but this one was great. It is a short book and I wish it had been a proper length novel because these guys were great.
Kyle and Miles have been pining for each other since they met, but because they are boss and employee they hadn't acted on their feelings. Being trapped in a hotel in Florida due to a hurricane is the perfect setting for them to admit how they feel towards each other.
I absolutely loved that Kyle felt attracted to Miles's hefty body. Miles was a bit insecure about his physical looks but Kyle assured him many times he was perfect for him. I love when MCs are portrayed as everyday people with bodies of different types, because that is real life. Also, for Kyle it wasn't just Miles`s body what he was attracted to, but his personality as Miles was such a sweetheart.
Like the previous book, I loved both the MCs and the writing style of this author. I can't wait for the last novella of this series.

This book is a fun escape read with boss/employee, only one bed, age-gap, dominant/submissive tropes. Kyler is a personal assistant for his boss, Miles. In the nine months Kyler has worked for Miles, he's been highly attracted to him. Miles secretly feels the same way, but neither man is willing to cross professional boundaries to declare the attraction.

When on a five-day work trip together, a hurricane finds them unawares (not sure how that happens) and they have to check in to the nearest hurricane-proof luxury resort, Elysian. Through a series of events, secrets come out. Can these two men find their forever love when they have to return to the same jobs that prevent it? This book is mostly light, with lots of unreleased tension, and a very satisfying HEA.

Kyler harbors a secret crush on his older, powerful, and kind boss, Miles Huntington. Though he struggles to suppress his feelings, an unexpected hurricane traps them in a shared hotel room—and bed—breaking down Kyler's resolve. As emotions spill over, Kyler faces the uncertain fallout, wondering if he's jeopardized his job or if there’s hope for a deeper connection with Miles.

I loved this story with the body positive attraction Kyler had for Miles. I also enjoyed that Miles was sensitive to the power imbalance between them. Lots of emotions and feelings as they allowed their true feelings for each other out. This was an MM story with mature content.

Casey’s Elysian novella series continues with some boss/employee goodness. Stranded during a hurricane, Kyler and Miles take shelter at the resort, but there is only one room and this forces some chemistry straight up to the surface. Their feelings don’t feel forced, and they have enough back story that it doesn’t feel insta-lovey. It’s really just a short story with perfect age gap sweetness and the Casey humour that we all love. Oh, and the cutest epilogue that jumps 6 months to give us a little more in depth HEA.

My favourite trope; boss/employee and this story didn't disappoint. Great characters that got the story moving fast. It's a really short story but it works well because this story is set around their time in a hotel room, whilst finding shelter from a big storm.  Rather than rush the ending and declarations to each other, the epilogue jumps six months forward. This seemed a good time jump to see how their relationship had moved along. It enabled a HFN with future plans that was more believable.

A very sweet short story, an age gap tale which I absolutely adore! Kyler is in love with his boss Miles, on a business trip together the weather forces them to stop at a hotel, and the rest is history.

Wooohooooo so good!!!
I’ve got to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I just could not put it down. I really like Kyler. He is so open. He is the star of this book for me and that’s not taking anything away from Miles because I kind of fell for him to.
Kyler is Mr Miles Huntington’s PA. And he totally loves his job. He likes to be the man that puts out the fires to make others succeed. He doesn’t feel the need for a pat on the back. He just wants to help people get on the best that they possibly can. They have been in Florida for five days and it’s been lovely very very busy but the weather has been wonderful so why on the day that they are driving to the airport has the weather turned nasty?. You see something happened in kyler’s past, and this weather is sending him into a panic attack. His boss sees this and simply pulls over and let’s Kyler get himself under control. This is when they find out the airport is close. Due to freaking hurricane forces, Mr Huntington find a resort up the road and hopes to get a room there. The resort is called Elysian Escapades but sadly they only have one room left which they grab.
So a little info, Kyler has had a crush on his boss for the nine months that he has worked for him. Miles is a big teddy bear. And Kyler knows he would feel safe in his arms. It’s not just his looks he is an amazing man with patience, understanding and consideration for everyone around him. Yep Kyler has it bad. But what Kyler doesn’t know is Miles is attracted to him. But Miles knows that he doesn’t have a chance because He’s twice his age and He’s a hefty man. Kyler has a body of a diver he is so fit. But what will happen when these two have to share a room with one bed.

What happens it is lush. I could not read this book fast enough. I really enjoyed it. They both had the struggles and my heart went out to Miles because in business he’s this amazing strong man with confidence and an answer for everything, but when it comes to him as a man he’s really insecure, and it takes Kyler to show him to prove to him that he is this amazing man inside and out. It really is a great read. He won’t be able to put it down.

I’ve got to say I am absolutely loving these shorts little reads straight to the point, passionate and exciting. what more could you asked for.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is me, leaving my honest review.

My Boss with Benefits by Casey Cox is the second book in his Elysian Escapades series. These are short stories that all take place at the Elysian Resort in Florida and if you read the Book 1 first you will get a feel for the resort and the people that work there. Miles Huntington, who is the CFO for a big accounting firm, and his PA Kyler Riggs are traveling home from a work trip in Florida when a hurricane hits on their way to the airport. Kyler has some issues from his childhood about driving in storms and has a panic attack, which is unusual because he is always cool, calm, and collected which concerns Miles. As the airport has closed he finds the Elysian Resort just ahead and they have one room left, one with one bed that they will have to share. Kyler has been infatuated with Miles since they met but he could never act on it because he was his boss. Also, Miles is 20 years older and is a big guy which he thinks no one likes. But two things happen while they are sequestered in their room that changes things for both of them. I really enjoyed this story and read it in about 1½ hours. Even though it wasn’t long the story was well written and complete. I liked each of the main characters and how they were attracted to each other but didn’t think they could do anything about it because they were boss and employee. Miles was strong and caring and Kyler was cute and in need with his panic attack and Miles was right there to help him. The situations they found themselves in as the storm rages outside were fun and they learned a lot about each other. Once they decided to go all in the love scene was hot. Mr. Cox is one of my favorite authors and he did a great job on this one. I highly recommend it, especially if you like short reads about a boss and his PA with an age gap and finding themselves in a situation where they could finally express their feelings about each other. I have enjoyed this series and am looking forward to reading the next book in it.

It took me three day to finish this short novella. It is clear this series of short novellas was meant as a light summer read but I still expected more from this.

Kyler, supposedly invaluable PA, has been lusting, since he got the job, after his older boss, Miles. Miles has also been attracted to Kyler for quite some time, but as Kyler keeps things between them strictly professional, Miles has no idea about Kyler's fantasies about Miles. When the two of them get caught in a hurricane, with only one room available at the Elysian gay resort, Miles ends up with a few discoveries about Kyler.

Even though, I generally don't mind the obvious power imbalance of the employer/employee trope in romance fiction, Miles feeling mopey about Kyler not being attracted to him did not sit well with me. Kyler obviously worshiped Miles but there wasn't much in Miles' characterization that would explain why that was the case. Apart from Miles being a decent guy and Kyler having a thing for older bears. I expected more tension between the two and definitely much more interesting sex scene that the one we got and I don't even mean kink wise.

Instead of a cool refreshing glass of water, what we got was tepid and perfunctory. I just hope Kyler and Miles' romance was the worst one in the series, because I can't help feeling intrigued by the teaser to My Fake Boyfrenemy.

Themes: dual POV, employer/employee, age difference, only one bed, plus size character

4.25 stars. I just love good-written novellas, and this one certainly falls under that category. It has all the feels,

Kyler is twenty-three and a super professional PA, hiding his attraction for his forty-three years old, gorgeous boss Mr. Hunti… eh Miles, by working hard and efficiently as possible. He’s very closed up.
But guess what… so is Miles, the mountain of a man who is self-conscious about his posture.

When they’re trapped for a few days, at Elysian in a room with just one bed, during a hurricane, something awesome happens.
As closed off as they are, they open up and gosh what follows is sweet, endearing, and hot.

This was a wonderful read, I’m always in awe of how an author is capable to write a novella with enough development to make a reader feel satisfied after finishing, here it’s just seventy-six pages and we know enough about their lives and personalities, and get all the feels. Well done!

🌀Forced proximity with an unusual wrinkle🌩

This MM novella struck me as a short, positive romantic read more focused on emotions than non-stop steam. The element that made it out of the main stream and therefore more interesting: Miles, the older boss, does not have that perfect six-pack body. Yes, his personal assistant Kyler is attracted to him physically anyway, but how refreshing that he doesn't have to be a walking Greek god to win the admiration and affection of a (much) younger man. These guys have worked together for nine months and know each other's character and that made their romance more, well, romantic!

I liked the fact that both Miles and Kyler were basically nice guys and, stuck in an awkward situation due to a raging hurricane, made the best of it. Kyler's sad backstory was also a nice touch and a realistic catalyst for the guys getting physically closer.

Not a lot of pages but a nice, compact MM romance with some steam but refreshingly just that bit more focused on comfort and emotional connection.

💚🩵 My Boss With Benefits ARC Review 🩵💚

Thank you so much to Casey Cox for the opportunity to read and review this book!!

My Boss With Benefits is an MM contemporary romance novella and book two in the Elysian Escapades series. Kyler has been hiding a secret crush on his boss for months. When they’re stranded in Florida because of an incoming hurricane, they find themselves seeking refuge at the closest resort. Little do they know that they just stumbled into Elysian, Florida’s most exclusive LGTBQIA resort, and there’s only one room left!

This was such a fun read! I loved Kyler and Miles together! They were so cute!! I did find myself wishing that this read was longer, just because I’m selfish and wanted more time with them!

Overall this was a four star read for me! I’ve really enjoyed this series so far and this was an awesome novella! This one did have a spicy scene and some great tension so two flames for spice!

If you’re a fan of sweet, low-angst, forced proximity, boss/employee, and only one room, then absolutely pick this one up!!

Second in novella series (Elysian Escapades, spin-off from the author’s Escape series). Boss/employee. Age gap. Dual POV. Quick read. Kyler has a massive crush on his boss that he’s been hiding for months, but an unexpected hurricane strands them together at the Elysian resort, and Kyler confesses his feelings. Miles doesn’t expect Kyler to be attracted to him, but he is very aware of their power imbalance, no matter how much he wants to reciprocate Kyler’s feelings. Casey Cox does a good job of providing background for both Kyler and Miles, while allowing them to get to know each other in a very rapid fashion, which leads them to starting a romantic relationship. Kyler pursues his boss, and it is clear that their attraction is much more than physical. A quick read with a little steam and a lot of sweetness. 4.5 rounded up

This is a short and sweet story.
Kyler and Miles have an interesting dynamic. Kyler is a personal assistant with a major crush on his boss. Miles is the boss, twenty years older, and self conscious about his body. Secrets are revealed when the two are stranded in the last room available - with only one bed - during a hurricane that changes everything for them, and leads to love.
Both characters are likeable with a bit of background, and the storyline is interesting.
If you're looking for a quick read, this one is great. It is listed as 77 pages, but the actual story takes less than 60 pages.
However, I think this book would have been so much better if it had been more fleshed out. The MC's go from their first - and only - intimate scene to the end of the book, which takes place six months later.

This was a sweet romance. Miles Huntington is The CFO for a accounting firm and Kyler Riggs is his PA. They are heading to the airport after a conference in Florida when a hurricane blows in and they take refuge at the Elysian Resort. They end up having to share a room. Kyler has been Dustin over his boos for a while and Miles is attracted to Kyler but is hesitant due to being Kyler's boss, older than Kyler, and a bit hefty. Little does Miles know but Kyler loves Miles' body. They get to know each other better due to sharing a room and finally admit their feelings for each other. Will they be able to make their relationship work once the hurricane is over? Both of the MC's were really sweet guys and I loved how their personalities complement each other.

This was a wonderful quick read that takes us back to the Elysian. A hurricane has put Miles and Kyler in an interesting situation. They are stuck inside, in close quarters, with only one bed, with A LOT of repressed sexual tension between them. Kyler thinks Miles is perfect even though he is considerably older and doesn't have the typical Greek god physique. In his mind, it's all a fantasy anyway. What would someone like Miles see in a lowly personal assistant. Miles is quite attracted to Kyler but feels that his position as Kyler's boss makes things impossible. He also doesn't think a hot, young guy would want anything to do with a much older man with bulk. They are both in for a big surprise! As the storm intensifies, passion ignites.

I love these cute little novellas set in the Elysian world! Miles and Kyler were all kinds of sweet with just enough spice to keep things interesting!😉 The hurricane was the perfect obstacle for these two to finally figure out what was right in front of them and I loved seeing them get to know each other while being trapped at the resort. All the conversations shared between them while they are waiting out the storm just made the ending that much sweeter. I really loved that we got to see a little of Kyler and Miles life in the future, instead of just their time sheltering at the resort. Hopefully we will get a cute little bonus scene from these two in the future where they get to go back to the resort but without a hurricane this time.

What a great short story! From the first moment I was all in with the tension between the MC's, though it wasn't a great experience for Kylur having a panic attack in front of his boss. Miles is great at taking charge and looking after the younger man. I love the body positivity of the story as well. Kylur has crushed on Miles since he started work as his PA, loving the larger build of him and is not afraid of showing him that, once the two move towards more than boss and employee, but it takes some convincing and a possible end of the world scenario.
A quick and enjoyable read with size and age difference, boss/employee, and a little hurt/comfort to ease them into the one room/bed situation.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Mutual attraction

Kyler is extremely attracted to his boss and knows he can't do anything but sketch his fantasies and dream. Miles is also attracted to Kyler but he is Kyler's boss and he is a beefy man. Someone as young and attractive as Kyler would never want him, right? I enjoyed how these two got to know one another while waiting out the hurricane. Another great thing about this story is that one if the MC's is not an Adonis like in many other books. He is like a normal over forty male and is just as attractive as a ripped man. This is a fun, quick read that brings together another perfect pair at the Elysian.

The book was well-written and had genuine emotion and connection. The MC’s had amazing chemistry. Miles was Kyler’s boss and he had been pining for said boss for quite a while. Miles was older and built like a bear, which was right up Kyler’s alley. You could see the attraction is very mutual and I loved the dual POV so you could tell how they were both falling for each other and that it was more than just physical. This is the second book in the Elysian Escapades series, but you can read this book as a standalone. I am looking forward to reading more of this series.

This was nice…

Honestly, it totally makes sense that this story be next however I am seriously bummed to find out that Leo’s story isn’t next so I’m going to have to find it 😂
That said, Miles & Kyler are super sweet. There is a bit of bodily dysmorphia on Miles’ part but he admits that he’s a work in progress & by the end contributes his growth within 6 months of being together to fully loving and accepting himself especially in regard to his body. Which I love in stories like this! Anyway, I’m off to start book 3!

Sweet little read that starts from the end of book one. Miles, CFO, and Kyler, his PA, are in Florida on business. When a hurricane hits, they are forced to make a stop at Elysian and stay for a few days. Kyler has had a crush on Miles for months and has even drawn him in his sketch book. As they start talking and get to know each other. I love the Elysian series and it is always great to be back there. No angst, great chemistry and heat. Cannot wait for the next one.

Casey normally does good feels and comedy, but with this novella, it really focused on the good feels. Kyler has a triggering past and Miles has a lack of positive body imaging. So watching Kyler sharing his past, them then playing 20 questions, the accidental reveal and then Miles's admission, it's all very tug on heartstrings. Comedy wouldn't have fit with this novella, but this will have you smiling all the same.

Another Elysian masterpiece!

This book is phenomenal and I absolutely loved it! Kyler and his boss Miles get stuck at Elysian during a hurricane and it changes everything! Kyler shows Miles a side of him Miles never knew and I love how Kyler trusts Miles with his secrets. The relationship blossoms and it’s an absolute joy to watch it develop. It’s a sweet story with a happy ending and is an absolute must read!

I really liked the main couple, and this was a fun, easy summer read. But unlike the first novella in this series, this book felt rushed. It was also isolating for the characters. It would’ve been nice to have a chapter where they interacted with the other people at the resort. I realize there was a hurricane, but maybe they could come back later for a visit. I did enjoy the two main characters and their sweet love story.

2.5 stars. M/M age-gap romance novella. Standalone offshoot of the Elysian series.
An easy low angst read.
Told in alternating POVs Kyler has been hiding his attraction to his boss Miles for month. When they get stranded in the Elysian resort during the hurricane some truths inadvertently come out.
The setup is predictable but the chemistry was ok with the single sex scene as the novella only covers few days.
The epilogue jumps in time to provide the HEA.

Lovely, light, and frothy

After some of the much heavier, darker storylines in the 3.5 book Escape series and Heart Unbroken, this novella has a much lighter feel, even though it approaches a body type not usually seen as a positive shape in many LGBT tales.

In addition, there develops a banter that is also a touch wittier than usual, with a side dish of heat.

This is a lovely desert of a book, to be consumed with a good Sauterne after a satisfying entrée.
