Sweet Peach #4

One Last Play

Rate this book
She could be the one.

I’ve spent twelve years caring for my niece Maddie who I adopted after my sister died. Having a daughter has made me picky when it comes to the women I spend time with. Not to mention dealing with the pressure of being a college football coach.

But when I spot MJ at a mutual friend’s wedding, something draws me toward her.

My friend tells me to forget about her, but how can I when she becomes Maddie’s art teacher and our paths cross again?

I ask her out, she turns me down. Rinse and repeat. But I don’t plan on giving up any time soon.

My instincts are always right, and they’re telling me Meadow Jane Carter might just be my future wife.

One Last Play is an age gap, reverse grumpy/sunshine romcom for fans of sweet romantic comedies. It has all the sizzling chemistry you love, without any explicit scenes. Check out the fourth and final installment of the Sweet Peach Series, a four-book sweet romcom collection about best friends living in Atlanta, Georgia!

A great way to end the series! I’m totally Team Bash on this one. I loved his sunshiny determined self. It was a great contrast to the grumpy MJ. Usually the guy is the grump but I loved it being MJ. She was so stubborn and yet fragile. I love how she worked out her stresses with her art. I know there was about a decade age gap but you really didn’t feel it take a central role in the story. Bash was playful while MJ was an old soul so it balanced out. I loved seeing them form this little family.

And MJ’s brothers! Don’t even get me started! When they showed up for Maddie’s performance sporting “Mad Dog Crew” shirts I swore they stole the show. I was even hoping we would see more of them in a future series. I’m stoked to see they WILL eventually get their series. I mean the guys are top notch Book Boyfriend material here.

Overall a sweet and funny story. I have loved this series so much. Each book is very different from the last and totally stand alone. Thank you for the ARC! I loved it! This had already been on my Must Read list before even getting an advanced copy.

Rating: PG, very clean (thank you so much I love books like this with spice and melting moments but no steam or heat), some kissing but focus is on emotional connection and becoming best friends. Triggers: touches on grief and loss of loved ones, self worth issues

Y'all. This book needs to come with a warning. Something like...

*WARNING*

Clear your schedule before you think about starting this book because once you pick it up, you will have the hardest time putting it down and will have zero desire to adult. I may or may not have tried to get my manager to let me leave early so I could go home and read. If you're wondering, no, it did not work. She just laughed at me. 🤪

Oh my heart! Y'all! I can't even with all the swooniness! I. Can't. Even! Where should I begin? This book right here had everything I have come to love and crave in the books I read. All the feels? ✓ Swoony? ✓ Lots of kisses? ✓ Giggled/laughed out loud? ✓ Let out all the little dreamy sighs? ✓ Witty Banter? ✓ Sweet moments between characters? ✓ Counted down the minutes until I could pick the book back up? ✓

Gaaaaaaaaaaaah! You guys! I could not get enough of Meadow and Sebastian. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he just knew there was something special about her and knew that he needed her in his life. Meadow had some big walls built up around her heart and I seriously loved watching Sebastian and Maddie (his daughter) work together to take them down. Y'all. Sebastian is freaking fantastic and I loved how he loved Meadow. He was all in from the very beginning and I loved watching these two get to know each other and find their HEA. It seriously made my heart smile! 😍

And I would be remise if I didn't give a shoutout to Maddie, as well as Meadow's brothers. Y'all. They had me rolling! They were the BEST side characters ever! Like... I can't even with some of the things they did! And I cannot wait to get my hands on all the brothers' books! Eeeeeeek!

This is my very first book by Ms. Conwell and, if you haven't already guessed, it won't be my last! She sucked me in from the very beginning and refused to let me go until the very end. I found myself sneaking in reading whenever I could. I seriously love it when an author can do that!

And of course, I can't forget my casting. *dreamy sigh* They're pretty perfect in my opinion. What do you think?

I read this off of the recommendation of a friend as this is the first book by this author I’ve read and it did NOT DISAPPOINT Y’ALL. Consider this a new favorite in the sweet sports romance category.

I am an absolute sucker for he falls first and hard. Sebastian was that man. From the first meeting I was already swooning. It was laid out so well and I loved the progression. There’s cute moments, relatable commentary and some swoooony kisses. The third act was handled amazingly. Realistic conflict with communication is my jam.

Maddie was an adorable addition and I just loved her. She was the sweetest girl and brought another great level of depth to this book.

Meadow Jane was a character that frustrated me in a positive way? I got where she was coming from and she slowly made growth and listened to loved ones around her about being open to new love and new things and I loooove those moments.

The football content is perfect. Not overwhelming but I was an immediate Thrasher fan from the get-go. I love that Sebastian was a coach instead of a player and now I’m all excited for this spin-off series with Meadow Jane’s brothers.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Sports Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of loved ones (childbirth and cancer), a car wreck with minor injuries

Sweet and “spicy” clean romance

This book was adorable in so many ways. I loved the dual points of view, the many lovable characters, the way the story flowed, and the swoony romance. I loved Maddie- she was so lovable and sweet, and I enjoyed the way the author brought her unique situation to life. The moments between her and MJ’s brothers were so fun, and she brought such fun humor to the story (aka “Are you guys being spicy again?”). Sebastian and Meadow brought toe curling kisses and tender moments to remember- definitely a story I will read again!

4.5 ⭐️

I had this book in my house all of 5 minutes before I started reading & finished it in an afternoon! What a beautiful conclusion to a beautiful series! 😍

I laughed so hard & even teared up. MJ & Bash are the sweetest! And… they just *might* be my favourite couple from Sweet Peach. 🤭

Anyways, this series has my heart! I related to MJ so much and discovered I’m a solid mix of her & Grace.

Two things that I have to mention:
•The Carter sibling group chat 😂😂😂
•The dance competition & the TikTok dance… man, I love those Carter boys 😭

As much as I laughed over the first thing, I was totally choked up over the second. 🥹

I am feeling sad about leaving this precious series & these characters behind but am BEYOND excited for what Annah brings us next! (And I am ALL here for MJ’s brothers & their stories!! 😍)

3.5

This was a cute grumpy-sunshine type story. Meadow is the grump and Sebastian is the charming Sunshine character. It's not my favorite trope to have the guy chasing after the very resistant girl, but the overall story was fun and I liked Maddie. I also love when the character is close with their siblings. I look forward to reading her brother's books.

Content Rated G
Clean romance, kissing. No language or violence. Talk of loss, nothing graphic.

I really enjoyed this one! This is the 4th book in the Sweet Peach series, but I skipped ahead because I was in the mood to keep the sports romances rolling. 😏 I loved the characters from the first 3 books, so I will definitely be going back to read those ones at some point.

Some things to expect:
Football coach
Middle school art teacher
Single parent
Age gap
Slow burn romance
He falls first
Fun banter
He takes care of her

Just when I thought these books couldn't get any better...they did 💗💗💗

Omg MJ Maddie Sebastian and all of the brothers relationship with each other were just so pure and cute 🥰🥰

I think what made this book really special was that when MJ and Sebastian got together Maddie really became their daughter and that was just the icing on the gluten dairy sugar free cake 🤭🤭

There were so many heartwarming scenes in this adorable book and my favorites were MJ and Maddie throwing paint, Maddie and MJs brothers making a tik tok dance together, the migraine, Maddie's use of the word spicy, anything with Grayson in it, Maddie asking MJ to be her mom, Virginia helping MJ get ready for the wedding and so much more 💕💕

The epilogue was so cute and I'm not kidding when I saw the names Charlotte Sterling, Grace Parker, Sophie St. James, and Medow Jane Holt I started tearing up. I have grown so attached to these women over the course of these four books that it just makes me so happy to see them get the endings that they deserve 🥹🥹

Thank you to Annah Conwell for bringing this wonderful, spice free, unpolitical, hands down the sweetest romcoms ever into existence. My reading pace for these is one book a day which might not be very healthy but they're just so good I can't put them down! They don't feel slow but they have enough happening that they don't feel rushed at all. I truly believe that God has given you a gift of writing to bring joy into people's hearts with your works. I'm going to be honest I haven't raved about a book this way in so long this one is just so worth it though 💖💖

5 stars all the way I wouldn't dream of rating it anything else 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I was not expecting to love this story so much.
When I find clean romance or closed door romance, I enter these stories doubting they'll be good because sometimes they lack that spark that makes the story good (not the sex, but just that little something to make it interesting) and this writer has that something. I loooooved this story, I can't wait to go back and read Callum's story and see if the brothers have their own books.

Anyways, the fact that they waited to have sex was beautiful, I can't discribe my happiness over this fact. This family made me really happy, this books has all the right ingredients to make me happy and giddy 😍

This was a sweet story that made me giggle, not only in love but also at the silliness of the side characters. Can't wait to read more of this writer!!

First I want to say thank to Annah for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! Where do I even start? I did not know what to expect with MJ's story. I had met her character of course in the rest of the series and I couldn't relate to her at all. Being a tea drinker, so healthy eater and always talking about processed foods hahaha I was like, I am not gonna love her....

Boy I was wrong. Being inside her head and understanding why she did the things she did, or the way she was only made me love her so much and admire her. She was so sweet and loving with a fear of getting hurt relatable even when I might not have those walls.

And may I just say. SEBASTIAN FREAKING HOLT. OH MY!!! He is one of the sweetest, most loving and incredible guy ever. He really captured my heart and made fall in love with him. HARD. The way he fought for MJ, wanting to break down the walls but still respecting her boundaries was just short of unbelievable in the best way possible. He really is dreamy.

AND OF COURSE, Maddie, who found her lovable the firstinute we see her in the classroom. There was something so lovable about her. And her relationship with Bash is just so precious and even more so with MJ.

Honorable mention to MJ's brothers how will be my next obsession for the foreseeable future.

Annah, YOU ARE A GENIUS!

4.25 — A favorite of Annah Conwell’s of mine. I related heavily to Meadow in some aspects especially her dietary restrictions and struggles with chronic pain. I also love a man who is faithful in his pursuit, and Bash was so sweet. Now I need to read The Carter Brother series because I’m now INVESTED in this family!

I loved everything about this book. I'm sad to see the series end but it ended with a bang. The special sneak peek of the ladies at the end was also a nice touch.
Sebastian is going down as my fave hero and MJ as my fave heroine of the series.

I’m so sad this is the final book of the Sweet Peach series. But what a fantastic story to end on! I loved the reverse Grumpy Sunshine that was MJ and Sebastian’s journey to love. MJ is the opposite of me with her love of football, I on the other hand, know relatively nothing about it. But I still loved her creativity and her passion for teaching art to her students. Sebastian was a delightful Sunshine character, determined to get MJ to like him. Their banter was all things snarky and fun and I laughed so much at it. MJs family was just wonderful (can’t wait for those stories!), helping Maddie feel like she was never alone. But it was when MJ and Sebastian finally got together that was my absolute favorite part of the story. Each of them needed the other so much and I truly enjoyed seeing them make the other better. Definitely get this marvelous book (and the series) on your TBR, they are books I’m sure all romance readers will adore!!

I received an ARC of this story from the author via BookFunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

3 stars.

🏈 The vibes:
- dual pov
- Age gap
- single dad
- Instalove

🎨 My thoughts:

This book was a sweet and quick read. Single dad Sebastian takes in his niece Maddie as a baby and he is the sweetest dad to her as she grows into a pre teen. When we enter the story, MJ is Maddie’s art teacher at school and when Sebastian sees her he knows that he has to pursue her.

But MJ is a tough cookie to crack because she is total anti dating and refuses Sebastian at every turn. Not to be deterred, Sebastian is determined to find a way to MJ’s heart.

While Sebastian struggles to get close to MJ, Maddie and MJ bond immediately and their friendship was very sweet. This element was my favorite part of the book beyond the romance.

As far as the romance between MJ and Sebastian-this couple’s love language is teasing and picking at eachother. It works for them and is playful. But sometimes I just wanted them to have a real moment together. Their relationship also leaned into instalove territory (specially Sebastian) for me which was hard for me to get past. They had some cute moments together for sure- I just felt like it moved too quickly for me personally. This is totally personal preference and I think many will still love this book.

I’m officially down the Annah Conwell rabbit hole and I love it! I read the Carter brothers series first (of which now reading MJ’s story and seeing the “Mad Dog” scene play out was so fun! And seeing them fall in love with Maddie was so sweet!), and I circled back round to MJ’s. I love that these stories are all connected but can also be read separately.

Now to see MJ’s story is amazing! Coach Bash is just a dream boat. I loved his relentless pursuit of MJ. It reminds me a little bit of what Jesus is like with us. MJ was bristly, prickly, and pushing him away and yet that man was undeterred! I loved how fun-loving Sebastian is! Also the KISS scenes are all sizzle, and I LOVE them!
Definitely some of my favorite kiss scenes.

All in all, it’s a beautiful story and I love it!

I’m shocked that this book is rated so highly. It was sickeningly sweet. Not in a good way.

The male lead literally falls in love with the female after interacting with her a few times. And all of those times she’s blown him off insisting she won’t date him.
Once she starts coming around to the idea of dating him she has reservations about things and we later find out her big hang up is that her last boyfriend told her she’s “too much” so she swore off men and went on a man ban and lets it eat away at her…really?? I don’t even feel like I got any vibes from her character that she was in fact too much. Super into art and a little eccentric maybe but nothing over the top.

Then the male lead then proposes to her like 3 weeks after knowing her and says he’s known for a while that he wanted to marry her. Um what? Then they get married 3 weeks later.

The interactions the lead female had with her young student (the guys daughter) were unrealistic.

I would’ve DNF’d it but powered through since it was so short.

This book was utterly wonderful! @authorannahconwell this book BLEW me away, thank you so much for letting me read it early!

Here’s what I loved about this book:
• the age gap worked so well
• such well done chronic
migraine rep
• he falls first, and hard!
• the sweetest little girl
• SWOONY kisses
• a kind, sarcastic, fierce leading
lady and a determined, sweet
leading man!

I adored this book! I loved that Bash met MJ where she was and never pushed her to be someone she wasn’t! He only ever wanted a place in her life and I was a puddle of feels over him.

I could not stop reading this one. I’ve been anxiously awaiting MJ’s story since Lottie’s book and Annah did not disappoint! I loved MJ’s dynamic with her brothers and how she was sensitive to Maddie. Of course I loved the art aspect and how she dealt with her migraines. I really connected with her character. AND Sebastian 😍 I love the he falls first trope and how he was genuine. I love how he took care of MJ and validated her feelings. Just all the feels this book.

Read it if you like sweet RomComs. Especially those with age gaps, single parent, he falls first.

I’m looking forward to reading MJ’s brothers’ books.

Anyway, Bash is the absolute hunkiest of hunks and they're just adorable together. So...read this if you love...

Probably closer to 3.5 stars, I thought it was a sweet story. But it bothered me how the FMC was like “if he knew all of me, he’d run away,” and even the writing made me think there was going to be a big reveal of some dark past…but it was just the grief over losing her mom and a jerk of an ex-boyfriend that said her grief was “too much.” That’s a lot to work through, I won’t discount that, but I kept expecting there to be more with how the character was acting.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Meadow (MJ) & Sebastian’s points of view

– there is an age gap of about 11 years between them

– Sebastian & Meadow both deal with grief due to someone in their family having passed away (not within the last year, but it is still close to their hearts)

– Meadow has dealt with migraines her whole life & restricts herself (food-wise) in order to help mitigate her migraines

Review:

I started to highly think about purchasing a physical copy of this book by chapter 2! It is so funny! I loved MJ & Sebastian’s banter and that MJ tried to hide her reactions from him in an attempt to not encourage him. I loved Maddie so much and that MJ also loved her as a favorite student before even knowing who Maddie’s father was. I loved how MJ’s brothers also took in Maddie as their own even before Sebastian & MJ started dating. (I am so stinkin’ excited that they are getting their own series next! 😍) I also loved that even though all the girls moved into their own places, they still made the effort to continue their friendship and set aside time to be together outside of events that they all attended together. Some of my favorite scenes/moments included: Maddie & Meadow’s brothers interacting, an accidental text, Maddie attempting to match-make, them actually meeting for the first time, Sebastian getting advice from Ben, more friend moments, Meadow opening up, taking care of each other, a birthday, and getting to watch the game from the box.

Summary:

MJ started a man ban with her friend Sophie at the beginning of the year, and while Sophie broke her ban in favor of falling for her best friend, MJ is not willing to drop her own ban. MJ loved and lost and isn’t willing to let down her walls again. Not even if it means getting to be in a relationship with her somewhat secret crush, Sebastian Holt, past football player turned coach. But even though MJ told him she wasn’t interested, Sebastian just keeps showing up to all of her art class outings as a chaperone. Because his daughter is one of MJ’s best and favorite students and he is definitely taking advantage of being able to be near MJ by helping out. Unfortunately, it seems that Sebastian & his daughter are slowly breaking down the walls MJ has kept up for so long…

Sebastian saw MJ from afar at a friend’s wedding and never got the chance to speak with her at the time, so he is happily surprised when he discovers that she is Maddie’s art teacher. With Maddie being his highest priority, Sebastian is very conscious of who he dates and how much they care about his daughter as well as him. All the points are racking up in favor of MJ being the one for him, if only she’d let him take her on a date. MJ is an enigma in so many ways, but the one thing Sebastian is sure about her is that she is saying she isn’t interested in him, but actually feels the opposite. So until she’s ready to confirm that, Sebastian is willing to take every opportunity he can to get to know MJ the best he can. Good thing she’s in need of parent volunteers for a few things coming up at the school…
