Ryleigh Steele gives in to mounting pressure from her siblings and cousins and leaves her job as a law enforcement officer to join the Steele Guardians. She’s just getting her feet wet when a lumber company begins receiving threats, and the owner contracts with Ryleigh for the Steele Guardians to protect their workers. But the threats quickly escalate under her watch, and a bomb is detonated at one of the sites, killing one of the workers. Can she find the killer and save her company’s reputation and her life?
Ryleigh takes the man’s death personally and commits to finding the killer. Trouble is, the owner has hired a security manager without Ryleigh’s knowledge, and the manager isn’t about to let anyone cut him out of this investigation. Ryleigh gets ready to do battle with him, but when she meets the handsome head of security, former Navy SEAL, Finn Durham, she can barely find the words to speak much less fight. She and Finn had once dated, a tumultuous month, that ended badly. Doesn’t matter. She can’t let their past or her residual feelings for him distract her in the hunt for the killer. If she’s not careful, the killer will find her first.

These family based suspense series from Susan Sleeman are absolutely one hundred percent my definition of a’Comfort Read’! I get giddy with bookish glee every time one comes out and I snatch it up and race through it and then bask in bibliophile wonder…for a nanosecond… and then I pout and lament because now I have to wait for the next Sleeman read. Thankfully she’s a pretty prolific author so the wait is a matter of a few months rather than a full year. Phew!

So, while I’m sad to see the conclusion of the Steele Guardians series, I’m jazzed about the upcoming new series and the fact that we’ve been given a glimpse into what it’s going to be like and…Eeeeepppppp!!!!!!!! I’m so excited!!! Oh — and even though this is #6 in the series, Edge of Steele reads absolutely fine as a standalone. That’s something this author does really well — creating a unique story with an overlapping cast of characters that need no introduction. You just love ’em on sight and you’ll be wowed by all that Steele charm (especially when it comes to their grandparents!)

So, Ryleigh and Finn — in the mood for a stellar second chance romance, anyone? Sqqqueeallll! And it’s a doozie! Love the connection they have from the very start…even if it’s all bristling animosity! Some fun sniping and bantering and no shortage of sizzle. Paired with an intriguing investigation that kept me on edge right to the exciting conclusion. Great balance between suspense and romance and the camaraderie between friends and family. I really can’t adequately express how much I’ve loved this series (and anything else Susan Sleeman writes!) Except to say she’s an auto-buy author for me and I’m very, very, very close to being caught up on her back list too. I lover her storytelling that much!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Whitney Dykehouse. I really enjoy her narrations — she’s done all of Susan Sleeman’s books and I get a real sense of homecoming whenever I start listening.

Ryleigh is a Steele through and through: caring, hardworking, honest, dedicated, loving, and so many more traits that we have seen in her sisters and her cousins. All of the Steele Guardians are fortunate to have the parents and grandparents that they do. Just like them, family comes first for Ryleigh. Having just left the FBI to work with her family, her first contract suddenly seems in jeopardy as disaster hits the logging company on her watch. They had received threats, and she was determined to keep them safe. The new security manager at the logging company had the same goal. Did they both fail? Although she knows the man, she had no clue the company was even considering a security manager, much less that they had already hired one. Considering their brief history that ended badly, can they work together to find the party responsible for the destruction and devastation? To take it a step further, can they even keep themselves safe long enough to find answers? Even if they remain safe and find the perpetrators, will they have jobs when everything is wrapped up. And what are they going to do with the proverbial elephant in the room? Finn has already hurt Ryleigh once by walking away. How can she protect her heart? One thing is certain. A precious seven-year-old girl has stolen Finn’s heart without him even realizing it, and he is totally committed to being there for her. As a matter of fact, I believe this little girl will steal the hearts of all the readers of this story. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

I'm sad that this series is ending, as I am every time one of this author's series ends! Her characters are awesome, and the storylines are fantastic! It is hard to see these believable characters, that I consider to be "real", say goodbye! However, there is always another great series on the horizon, and we are introduced to the next one in this book! The best part of THIS series is that the characters from the last series were always popping up so that was great! Ryleigh was the final character to need a story and we got it in this book. She's been popping up in all the other books but now we get to see her featured prominently. She has quit the FBI and gone to work for the family security business. She still misses the FBI but family is everything to her. When a logging company that is one of her family's accounts, has a bombing, she rushes in to find out what happens. Little does she know that her former boyfriend, Finn, was recently hired as the security manager. She is suddenly thrust into working with the former Navy SEAL and things are uncomfortable since he left her without looking back. He left the SEALs and is now a single dad due to friend's death who left him her child to raise in the event of her death. Avery steals the story, in my opinion! Such a sweet child, dealing with the death of her mother and Finn trying to be a dad but having a hard time! However, there is a killer on the loose and there is a lot of action! Great story!

In this latest clean, Christian suspense romance, we are back with another story in the Steele Guardians series, and this time the story belongs to Ryleigh Steele.
Ryleigh left her law enforcement job as an FBI agent to work in the family’s business.
When a threats occurs at a lumber company, Steele Guardians, and in this case, Rayleigh, are hired to keep the employees safe.
What no one expected , was that an explosion would ensue. Even more shocking to Rayleigh is that the man she loved and lost to his SEAL job, is now in charge of security at the lumber company.
Finn Durham recently left the team when he become the guardian of a 7 years old girl. A transition that has been difficult for him and the child.
He too is shocked to see Rayleigh and realizes how much he hurt her.
As they work to find out who is responsible for the bombing as well as whose body was found inside the building, old hurts as well as new feelings develop.
In the end, will they find the culprit of the bombing? Will these two find their HEA or end up going their separate ways?
This is a whodunit filled with twists and turns. An engaging story in which the Veritas clan, whom readers might recall from the series Truth Seekers, have an integral part in the story . We are also introduced to members of the Maddox family who likely will be getting their series in the near future.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is the last book in this series of women who lead dynamic lives, going above and beyond to help keep people safe.
The Steele Guardians series is a series of books that will keep you gripped to your seat, wanting to know who the bad guys are and how it will all end.
Susan Sleeman is a mastermind at bringing just the right amount of suspense to all her books. You really don’t know how it’s all going to end up until the very end! This is what makes an amazing author! When the reader gets so tangled up in the story that they don’t want to put it down.
This book not only has action, tension, and suspense but there is a bit of romance . . . well, maybe a little more than a bit.
Now there was a part that I really didn’t enjoy reading. Not because it’s bad, but because I usually put myself in the character’s place and in part of the story they are crawling in tight places. I won’t say more, but I’m a bit claustrophobic, so this was a part I had to breathe deeply while reading!! No, Nope, not going there!! Oh, but what suspense!!
If you love action, suspense, and intrigue, then I highly recommend you pick this book and series up and start reading! However, I need to warn you, once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop! I stayed up way too late to finish this book. WOW!
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Ryleigh's future was going up in smoke. Literally. Right before her eyes."

Her first account after joining her family's business, the Steele Guardians, and Ryleigh Steele was already afraid that Shadow Lake Logging wouldn't need their services after all; the mill had nearly burned to the ground following an explosion. Was the bomb the handiwork of the radical Sovereign Earth environmentalist group, or was something more nefarious at play, because a man was dead; collateral damage or cold-blooded murder, it was too soon to tell. What Ryleigh did know was that she never expected to see Finn Durham striding across the parking lot. Two years prior, he had literally walked out of her life, and now he was apparently going to walk back in.

Working cautiously together with local law enforcement to solve the case, Ryleigh and Finn are reminded of what they left behind. The tables have turned, but the obstacles are still very much the same.

This story twisted and turned so often that readers may become a bit frustrated. . . . except that in the final moments, loose ends tie together. . . . including a reunion that was not ill-fated but perfectly timed. "You know God wouldn't have put him in your life again unless He wanted you to follow your feelings this time . . " Yes, Ryleigh believed that she did know. The real question was, did Flynn?

The closing chapter on an enjoyable series, with a hint of what's to come!

SUPERB SUSPENSE!

“Ryleigh’s future was going up in smoke. Literally. Right before her eyes.”

With these opening lines, Susan Sleeman invites readers to join her as she presents them with another superb suspense! When you start reading Edge of Steele, you will be distracted from wanting to do anything else because you will want to read it from cover to cover. It is that compelling! Sleeman has an exceptional plot that involves Ryleigh Steele, a former FBI Agent, who has joined the Steele Guardians and her first assignment is to protect the workers at a lumber company that has been receiving bomb threats.

Unfortunately, the threats become real when a bomb is detonated causing a fire at the facility. Even worse, there was a fatality. The body is so damaged that it will need DNA testing to confirm an ID. To complicate matters even more, the lumber company hired a head of security, former Navy SEAL, Finn Durham, to protect the property. Sparks fly over who is in charge. Sparks also ignite over past feelings between Ryleigh and Finn who dated in the past. While they only dated for a month, neither of them resolved the feelings they experienced. Ryleigh must let the smoke settle between her and Finn or the distraction could allow the killer to get to her first! This is another superb suspense!

My thoughts: EDGE OF STEELE is the sixth book in this ongoing series about the team of sisters who formed a business together. Ryleigh didn't really want to leave her much loved job but she did it to support her family. She is in a small town checking out a guard that the company hired and arrives right as the business goes up in smoke pretty much. A next on the scene is a man who Ryleigh used to date.... a long time ago. Suddenly Ryleigh finds herself working with Finn and the local police department to solve the crime. Who planted the bomb that destroyed the business? Why? Who's body did they stumble across? The clues keep coming and stacking up and none of it makes any sense? Will they solve it before the FBI steps in or will the killer kill them first?

I love Susan Sleeman's romantic suspense and she always has some electronic device or gadget that I never heard of and can't imagine... in this case live cockroaches (EWWW) that were hooked up to something so the handler could control them and use them to search for things...bodies, bombs, whatever.. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out. I think I read the first five, but I might have missed one. I'll have to go check. If you like romantic suspense, grab a copy today. You'll be glad you did. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

If you enjoy nonstop action, intrigue, and suspense--with some romance thrown in for extra measure, you’ll like Susan Sleeman’s conclusion to her Steele Guardians series, Edge of Steele. Creating realistic, flawed, but engaging characters is a strength of Sleeman, along with her obvious research skills. This story drew me in quickly and held my attention to the last page. Ryleigh Steele and Finn Durham have a shared history but needed to work together to find the bomber at a lumber company they provided security for.

I always enjoy learning more about crime solving and new technology used in it, and Sleeman is a pro at integrating it into her stories seamlessly. With plenty of twists and turns, this book kept me guessing to the end. Although this book is part of a series, it could be read alone, however, it was fun to see the appearances of characters from some of the other books in the series, and also some from Sleeman’s other series. For clean Christian suspense that will keep you reading late into the night, you can’t go wrong with this author.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Edge of Steele by Susan Sleeman
Steele Guardians Series Book Six
Ryleigh Steele had to travel to Shadow Lake to check on how their guards were doing for Tobias, owner of Shadow Lake Logging. That trip ended up being more than she had imagined. A bombing. A body. An unexpected old flame who had left her in a brokenhearted mess. Even so, Ryleigh had to save Steele Guardians’ reputation and solve this crime.
Finn Durham regretted the way he’d left Ryleigh two years ago. They’d met while on sick leave from the SEALs. They had a great month, but he realized the SEALs were his life, so he cut the ties and returned. Until his best friend died, he was now the guardian of a seven-year-old girl.
Ryleigh and Finn join Sheriff Russ Maddox, his brothers, and the Veritas team searching for a bomber…Ryleigh must hold her heart tight against her, so she doesn’t fall for the man who broke her heart or Avery, the girl he is now responsible for.
Excellent suspense story that keeps you guessing on who-done-it and the added romance.

Edge of Steele is the sixth and final book in Susan Sleeman’s Steele Guardians romantic suspense series.

This has been such a great series and this book is a wonderful conclusion. I loved the back-and-forth between the two main characters, Ryleigh and Finn. Their break-up was messy and Ryleigh’s reactions to Finn upon seeing him again, and having to work with him again, are perfect.

The mystery is a winding tale of suspense, too. I kept trying to puzzle it out with Ryleigh and Finn, and enjoyed the twists and turns the plot took. The ending has a great twist and I loved the climax!

If you’ve enjoyed this series, then don’t miss the conclusion. If you haven’t begun yet, this book can stand alone. It is also a wonderful introduction to the next series, Shadow Lake Survival. I can’t wait!

This is book six in the Steele Guardians series, however it is a stand alone. You do miss history of the Steele family, but not necessary in understanding what is going on. If you are a fan of Susan Sleeman, this book is everything you expect it to be. It is full of mystery, suspense, humor, romance and so much more. You will reconnect with characters from other books by sleeman as well. I love how Sleemans books bring characters from previous series, yet you do not have to read any of those to enjoy this book, (but they are all great).
Ryleigh Steele is the focus of this book. When she comes face to face with her lost love will she be able to forgive and move on or is there still to much to forgive. Ryleigh and former Navy SEAL Finn Durham must work together to try to solve the mystery around the bombing.
If you enjoy books with mystery, suspense, Police, and romance you will love this one. I always enjoy reading books by Susan Sleeman. I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.

A fast-paced romantic suspense as Ryleigh Steele investigates an incident in a company that Steele Guardians was hired to protect. After receiving several threats, a bomb is detonated, killing one of the company's workers, and Ryleigh feels personally responsible. As she begins looking into matters, she is forced to team up with Finn Durham, a former SEAL hired as the company's security head. Unfortunately, they had a previous romantic relationship before parting ways under heartbreak. Can they now forgive and work together to solve the crime? A few twists and turns along the way, making Edge of Steele a great book! I enjoyed becoming reacquainted with characters from previous books; and of course, the matchmaking grandparents who love to do just that! 7-year-old Avery also adds depth to the story line, touching hearts. Edge of Steele is an intense page-turning drama that I highly recommend.

Ryleigh Steele heads to Shadow Lakes to check on a company that had hired the Steele Guardians to protect. When she gets there, an explosion happens. What she didn't realize was that she would encounter her ex Finn who is the security manager for Shadow Lake Logging.
Finn, an ex Navy Seal, ended things with Ryleigh due to his career. When a friend died unexpectedly, he becomes the guardian of his friend's daughter Avery and retires from the the military. Finn has to navigate raising Avery and helping her heal. Rayleigh also has to learn to forgive Finn for ending things between them.
The two, along with the Maddox brothers and the Veritas team, investigate to find who is behind the explosions. Is it ecoterrorism or something else? This story had twists and turns, danger, intrigue, romance, and close family ties in it.

Ryleigh Steele wants to prove herself in her new position with the family business, Steele Guardians. When things blow up, literally, at the lumber company where they offer security services, she tries to get to the bottom of what’s going on—if she can stay alive long enough to find the culprit. This suspense thriller begins with a bang and keeps up the tension throughout. I enjoy reading about the latest tools and technology used to help solve the crimes. The author is a master at weaving those into her exciting mysteries. I always like to hear more about the Veritas crew, who helps out from time to time. I hope we will get more from them. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

My binge reading for this summer was Susan Sleeman’s Steele Guardians series. I finished the final book, Edge of Steele, this week. I enjoyed every book in this series. This final book had a greater twist (and this author has some awesome twists in her books) than the rest. I mean I was sure they had the bad guy, but when he turned up dead, a whole new scenario popped up. Each book in this series is a page turner and I’m always wanting to keep reading until I find out the ending. They are all filled with strong and loyal family relationships, faith, and an awesome couple finding each other. Edge of Steele was more of a second time around, with a little girl as a bonus. I highly recommend this book, series, and author.

I just finished the last Steele Guardians book, Edge of Steele. As usual Susan Sleeman wrote a compelling story with lots of fascinating information that showcases her research and thoroughness.

Ryleigh Steel has left the FBI to join the family business. Her first business contract receives threats that a seem to have been carried through. The companies security manager turns out to be the man who broke her heart two years ago, Finn Durham. They have to work together as they both are on the task force to find the bomber.

I never hesitate to read anything written by Susan and I’m never disappointed. She tells a page turning story that is actually story and not from action to action. I love her books.

Loved this book of Susan Sleeman!
She truly has a way with words, bringing live lessons through the development of her character's.

On of the things this book a a potential for was to become cliche in where Ryleigh and Finn started in their relation. But the way they grew and transitioned from anger and pain, to forgiveness, acceptance and trust came naturally. Which is truly a show of the incredible writing skills of Susan!

Do Over

Life would be deeper, richer, more satisfying if we would freely forgive. Yes there are wrenching, even shattering events in a lifetime. Unforgiveness destroys the person who won’t forgive and often breaks the ones who care about them. Forgive and find rest for your weary soul.

I loved this story about working through forgiveness and finding the value in another person again.

Perfect end to the series

As always, Susan Sleeman knocks it out of the suspense park. Edge of Your Seat would be the perfect alternative title to this story that ends the Steel Guardians arc. All the great characters make appearances, and the twisting tale of eco terrorists keeps your interest till the end. Highly recommended!
