Scandalous widow Bianca Clairmonte has spent the last year of her life running through a string of lovers and losing at card games in the hells to her late husband's best friend, Lucius "Hawk" Hawkins. Jess Michaels is a USA Today Bestselling Author who likes geeky stuff like Star Wars, playing video games (she ships herself with Dragon Age’s Iron Bull FOREVER), Bob’s Burgers and collecting POPs! She also drinks a LOT of Diet Coke. Probably an unhealthy amount, but it’s her only vice. She will eat (almost) anything coconut, truly anything cheesy and nothing spicy (yes, she is a walking stereotype when it comes to that). She likes cats, her dog Elton and people who care about the welfare of their fellow humans.
Although she started out traditionally published by Avon/HarperCollins, Pocket, Hachette and Samhain Publishing, in 2015 she went fully indie and has never looked back! She is lucky enough to be married to her favorite person in the world and live tucked between the ocean and the mountains in Oregon.
When she’s not watching Our Flag Means Death or trying out all the new flavors of Greek yogurt, she writes historical romances with smoking hot heroes and sassy heroines who do anything but wait to get what they want.

Wager of Sin is the first novella in the Sin series. It’s an erotic historical romance with an interesting plot. Set in London, 1817.
Wager of Sin: 3 stars: Lucius & Bianca
Scandalous widow Bianca Clairmonte has spent the last year of her life running through a string of lovers and losing at card games in the hells. Desperately needing the money she has lost to Hawk, she proposes a wager to win it back.
Lucius “Hawk” Hawkins is Bianca’s late husband’s best friend.
Not my favorite book/series from Jess but it is a novella. One thing I hate reading novella is that it's short and since that is what a novella is...I can't fault it. I do wish that the book was longer. It was really good and for some odd reason, I really want to read more about Bianca's brothers. When Bianca's father was going to declare her unfit unless she comes back to the family, she decides to wager a bet with her dead husband's friend, Lucius "Hawk" Hawkins, to get the money she lost from him back. What she didn't intend to do was surrender the control of her body to Hawk because she wants to be in control of her body.
Lucius has always wanted Bianca the moment he met her and now was his chance to have her. He tries to win her and have her wall that she created broken down. But there is something that seems to stop that from happening and it's an obsessive man
I've tried, I really, really have. And I wanted to like this book. I've read one of this author's newer works and liked it, but this, ugh. I had to give up near the end because it was dragging on and on. The stupidity of the characters was making me insane. I didn't like anyone. I didn't understand what the hero and heroine saw in each other. I was hoping the villain would pull the trigger while holding the heroine at gun point. When it gets to that point and all you're doing is rolling your eyes at the story, it's time to give up. Since this is an older story by this author, I'll stick with her newer works.
I'm a big Jess Michael's fan, so when I saw she had a bundle of three "Sin" novellas I was right on it. I just finished this first one, Wager of Sin. What a fun, sexy and quick read this was! I liked the characters and felt that a lot was packed into this short story. Mostly, I enjoyed the connection between Bianca and Hawk and the passion they shared. This erotic novella was hot! :)
Bianca and Hawk get together after her husband passes away, as Bisnca makes a wager with hawk to regain her wealther she's lost to him through card bets.
