Hawthorne Prep #2

De koningin van Hawthorne Prep

Rate this book

I wanted to like this but you made the main female character so weak. Why can’t she be strong like the male?

Was ok. Heroine was weaker in this book. However I liked the hero in both book 1 and 2. Good epilogue - 5yrs later.

I’ve been reading quite a number of books by this author lately and really enjoyed them. This is the sequel to King of Hawthorne Prep and can’t be read by itself. We meet some new characters in this book, which will be interesting to learn their stories in subsequent stories. I really liked Austin and Everly. The story centres around Kingsley & Summer and the situation they find themselves in. This is a bully romance but not as dark as others in the genre. I was surprised that there wasn’t a reprisal against Sloane from Kingsley given their loss that they suffered. It seemed out of character to let that go. Also was expecting to meet Harlow in this story, though I suspect we may find her in Austin’s story. Given Austin’s challenges to date, I hope he gets a sweet romance story rather bully romance. I think Duke and Everly may end up in a bully style romance of their own given their friction in this story. All in all it was a good conclusion to Summer & Kingsley’s story and hopefully we hear more about them in subsequent stories. I will definitely read more in this series and other of Jennifer’s books.

Queen of Hawthorne prep is an extreme lie.

This is Doormat Bitch of Hawthorne Prep.

Just another story where the author creates a little bitch of a heroine that lets the hero do WHATEVER he wants and she will still roll over and spread her legs for him.

Another mean girl could literally fuck Kingsley (H) in front of the heroine and she will still roll over for him and do whatever he wants.

Why? Because of her treacherous pussy & ugh, he’s just too hot and too everything she can’t help it!

Get fucked.

That’s pretty much the entire storyline.

Fuck this book.

A Girl And Guy caught between in the middle of Family Rivalry,

I was in two minds on whether to read this book or not.
The follow up to ‘ King of Hawthorne Prep’ is continues with the story of Summer Hawthorne and Kingsley Rothechild as they navigate their way through first love (for Summer)
And instant attraction/ obsession from Kingsley.
Now....I had a lot of issues with the first book re: Kingsley’s behaviour towards Summer. BUT! I also had a lot of issues with Summer and her compliance with Kingsley.

Sad to report things didn’t change that much in this second book.
In fact Summer’s and Kingsley’s Love/hate toxic obsession towards each other is worse.
Kingsley finds twisted ways to torture Summer because of her families past AND after a misconstrued conversation he overhear from her parents.

Summer basically walks around constantly horny, unable form words or thoughts when Kingsley’s is near.
She is desperate for his touch ALL.THE.TIME.
He uses and abuses her throughout 80% of this novel and SHE LETS HIM.
What kind of message does this send to girls/ women reading this that this kind of subservient, submissive behaviour where guy can mentally abuse you is acceptable.

So many time I felt myself getting frustrated with Summer as time, after time, she relented and allow this behaviour to continue.
Kingsley doesn’t get a pass because he had his redemption moment towards the end either.
He was an awful, controlling, bully AND if Summer (In her first serious relationship, might I add) found this BDSM-light behaviour turning her on then, she is just as disturbed.
The plot as such, the forced wedding, the business dirty dealings between the two rivals was interesting and worth the read.
However, it just felt (at times) the authors was sooo busy setting up the sexual encounters between Summer and Kingsley that she let the back story get away a bit.
She introduces Kingsley sinister father, and then barely uses him.
The same with Summers mother, who conveniently spent a great deal of time in bed due to a tragic turn of events.
Overall I wasn’t satisfied with this story as the two main characters were irritating.
Three stars.

I liked King of Hawthorne Prep even if a lot of things were wrong: like the fact the the guilt for a crime of 80 years prior is put on a 18-years-old girl and a lot of other stuff, really.
The first book seemed as a standalone and when I found out that there was a sequel I thought okay in the second book she will actually get to do something instead of getting lost in thoughts and let everybody else manipulates her like she did in the first book.
Well, I was wrong. I mean, she really never says what she thinks in the right moment, she know that not talking is a bad choice and yet she stays silent. She knows that surrender to Kingsley is wrong because he wants to hurt her and - not just in a consensual sexual way, which is fine - but emotionally too, which is not. I understand that it is a bully romance, so in the beginning the relationship is usually unbalanced and uneven, but at a certain point she is suppose to do something, isn’t she?
All in all, the book felt also a bit rushed and the parts weren’t well managed, in my opinion: a lot of time wasted in thoughts going nowhere, and the ending was really rushed…

Queen of Hawthorne Prep is an enjoyable second instalment of this four part series. It begins with Summer and Kingsley betrothed under an agreement between their parents following 80 years of bad blood, and reparations being demanded. Summer and Kingsley are enjoying being together, despite the agreement, although their parents are unaware of them actively being together. When Summer's mum catches them together, she freaks out, and later informs Summer that they're trying to find a legal loophole to break off the betrothal. Summer chooses not to tell Kingsley, not wishing to betray her parents or him. But he finds out, and hits the roof. Everything falls apart for Summer (that's putting it mildly). There's death, enforced living arrangements, hate sex, and more. Will Summer and Kingsley ever get their happy ending?

I recommend reading the tropes ahead of starting this book, as it touches on some sensitive subjects (there are no trigger warnings, and I do believe that they would be an advisable addition to the book). The gamut of emotions that Summer goes through is heart-rending, and the trauma she suffers really gets to you. Sucevic writes that really well. I'd like to see a little more of the inner strength we saw in her character in KOHP, but it's understandable that it is dimmed with everything she goes through. This is a real Romeo and Juliet story (although thankfully no suicide!), with extra spice. Great stuff.

This book was disappointing. The title itself was beyond misleading. I thought we were going to get a story with a bad-ass/strong female lead, and that couldn’t be further from what was delivered.

Summer, the female main character, was a pushover the entire book. She came across as extremely weak-minded and just lacked self-respect.

Summer never spoke up for herself. Even when her parents sprung the news of her arranged marriage on her, she got upset but folded to them fairly easily. Other situations where she let herself get walked over included:

-She ended up falling for Kingsley, her soon to be husband, and when her mother got upset that they were already sleeping together Summer hardly defended herself when she had every right to be exploring a connection with her soon to be husband.
—Summer also found out from her parents that they were trying to get her out of the arrangement and she didn’t say anything to stop them. By this point, she is fully in love with Kingsley but doesn’t mention this to her parents. She also doesn’t mention the situation to Kingsley to give him a heads up, ultimately betraying their relationship. She just once again lets other people control and navigate her life for her.
-Kingsley finds out that she knew her parents were trying to break their arrangement and he feels beyond betrayed by her (he questions if she ever really cared for him or just put on a show). His parents confront her parents and her father ended up having a heart attack and passed away when he found out Summer was sleeping with Kingsley. Kingsley starts treating her like shit, blatantly flirting with other girls, etc. What does she do? Within 6 days of her father passing she goes back to hooking up with him. Hardly felt like she mourned her father and lets Kingsley back into her pants even though he treated her like garbage and was all over other girls. Summer made it seem like she couldn’t control her body when he touched her. Honestly it was just cringeworthy. Your father unexpectedly passed away days ago - not sure how she can even stomach hooking up with someone at all let alone someone who had a hand in his untimely death.
-Summer ends up pregnant but loses the baby after getting kicked in the stomach at school. She’s devastated yet isn’t sure if the assault at school was related to the miscarriage. Uhm… you got kicked in the stomach?! Of course that likely played a hand in it. Additionally, she never tells Kingsley the extent of it and never seeks to find out who did it. At this point, I was just over this book and the characters. Huge let down.

I am writing here because I really need to let out my frustration.
Like girl your Dad just died and partially because of the guy you like and all she can think about is being horny.
In many bully eomance books the hero bullies but atleast he does some things to help her even if he’s bullying like there were no soft moments for me to gush over.
But for me it felt like she was just something for him to sleep with that’s all.
I really don’t see any emotional connections or chemistry like friendship , relationship or whatever between anyone.
All the characters were unlikeable and Summer really tops that. I mean her brother would have had a nice school year and football in 1st book but she had to go and spoil it by being horny and accepting Kingsley’s deal just because she couldn’t part with her brother try to think about others and other things apart from ‘dark haired boy next door’.
And i just didn’t like Kingsley not a single nice quality and there wasn’t really much explanation from the start like why is he the way he is.
It would’ve been much better in dual POV or atleast if there were more personal talks with him and the heroine.
But dude was also walking talking horny guy like even if it’s a serious situation he just think abiut himself , selfish to the bone.
I think these are the guys who become the abusive people in the future , red flag and toxic.

Absolutely Must Read!!! Kingsley is Everything!

This incredible, amazing, awesome book! I am blown away by book one, King & this book Queen, this fantastic duo series! I loved everything about Kingsly! He is dominant, angsty, swoony, pushy, romantic and hot as ever!!!

There was so much to unpack in these two books! However Jennifer’s writing is phenomenal. Just when you think you have the story figured out, she throws you a curve ball. I truly loved the back and forth between Kingsley and Summer! This book pulls so much at your heartstrings. But the ending is sure to leave you smiling.

This book was doing so good. I was so excited to read book 2. But the BBS ruined it, Summer having absolutely no back bone ruined it, and the fact that she just acted like a door mat ruined it.

Ohhhh boy. How to even tackle this one... let me start with saying that I love all of Jennifer Sucevic's books and stories. Although there's some controversy in the reviews for this book as well as book #1 in this series - I get what those reviewers are saying - I do. Buuuuut, I still love this book. I hated so many parts of it too... that's to say, I hated how certain things unfolded. But my involvement in the story and the reaction that Sucevic elicits in me as a reader just further confirms my opinion of how great of a writer Sucevic is. That said, like in my review for book #1, this high school bully romance is a bit of a departure from Sucevic's MO in her other series. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've read a few of these type of bully romance books and you always (always) hate the bully... who is normally the male lead. And Sucevic made me love to hate Kingsley.

Kingsley and Summer's meet cute in book #1 was really sweet and innocent, but throughout book #1 and into book #2, there were so many twists and turns. The forced marriage was a surprise and I so totally get Summer's perspective on it. Sucevic made me melt for Kingsley when she went to the beach house and he went after her and the pact that they made. The tender moments and his treatment of her after that are really everything - and that is a large part of why what follows is so terribly hard. As I said in my review of book #1, I really truly loved Summer's character at the start of the first book - she was so strong and funny and witty as well as confident in herself. I didn't love how she seemed to lose some of that - and to further highlight that point - Kingsley is such a brute. Sure he shows his sweet side, but how he turns and is so brutal... it does give you whiplash. The domineering parts of him and the male chauvinism were hard for me... I personally can't stand those archaic ways of thinking and behaving, so I always hate those scenarios. The forced marriage of course falls under that category. So my internal struggle with parts of the story was real... but as I always say, the mark of a great writer is when that writer elicits such a visceral reaction from the reader. And love or hate the plot here - Sucevic really does elicit major emotions.

Now, all that being said, this is a high school bully romance. So if you don't like yourself a bully romance, just don't read this. You know going in that you're going to expect some asshole-ery. It's just part of the plot. So once you accept that, you can better appreciate the story and plot.

For me, much like the first book, my level of anxiety reading this was very high. Sucevic hits us with some real zingers... there are lots of shoes that get dropped - my jaw even dropped in shock a time or two. The bulk of this book had me on high alert - but the ending. Ooof, the ending. Sucevic was probably like, "SURPRISE!!! Let me throw this zinger your way." I wasn't really expecting the twist of events - but I think the biggest shock was Kingsley's reaction and consequent response... which somewhat eased my hatred for him up to that point. I didn't think it was possible, but it happened! And the ending.... ugh. I have to admit that I did love the ending - but during the entire book I was so not wanting a HEA for Summer and Kingsley. I wanted to just hate Kingsley and for him to be the "bad guy" and I wanted better for Summer. I wanted her to channel more of who she was at the beginning of the first book - I wanted her to stand up for herself... but I get it... I understood the precarious position she was in. I empathized with her... As I said, this series caused me inner turmoil because it made me feel so conflicted. I wanted polar opposite things to happen - at the same time. I wanted Kingsley to be the good guy but I also wanted to hate him because he was the bad guy... I wanted Summer to get her HEA with Kingsley but at the same time I wanted her to get him back and be the victor... there's so much to unpack there.

Let me leave you with this: Sucevic is a fantastic writer. I love all of her books. But don't read this book or this series if you aren't prepared to dive into some frustration at bullying. Just don't. Also, don't start reading this series if you're not willing to be addicted - I literally stayed up until 3am reading because I couldn't put it down. I read each book within a day... it's a problem.

That all said, in my opinion, this series is Sucevic's steamiest series. That's to say, she always does a great job at writing incredible and addicting attractions between the main characters - it's quite addicting. Her following romance and sexy scenes are always super steamy. Five stars for her in that department. So I was a little surprised that she surpassed the steam in this series.. I guess my surprise was because this is a high school setting. But holy hot - she turned the dial up between Summer and Kingsley. Maybe the "hate" involved fueled it, but I found myself blushing a time or two. So that said, if you're not interested in major steam or some bullying, just move along - but if you are, clear your calendar because you're in for one hell of a ride.

Sorta like Romeo and Juliet (except no suicides)

I read both Books 1 and 2 twice - back to back they were so good. I even read Book 2 first. Great duo and can’t wait to read Austin’s story. I hope Everly and Duke have a story as well. Their chemistry was off the charts.

**spoilers of Kingsley and Summer’s story that spans Books 1 and 2**

Romeo and Juliet without the suicides. Yeah, Everly did a good job summing up their story in one sentence.

Book 1:

Kingsley and Summer meet by accident while on a beach and fall into instant attraction. A cute boy and a pretty girl. They hit it off immediately. She’s a virgin and he’s a gentleman.

They go out on the lake and have a day filled with the start of a hot, budding romance. They are both so intrigued with one another and we see a side of Kingsley that we only glimpse in a few different parts of both books, but it’s this memory of the dark haired boy who stole her heart that Summer keeps searching for throughout the story because he’s the one she really falls in love with.

Fast forward, Summer’s Grandma Hawthorne dies and leaves a fortune to Summer’s father but with many stipulations - including he must live in small town Hawthorne for ten years or they lose it all. Of course Kingsley lives in Hawthorne and he now hates her because of her family name - everyone does. Once he realizes Summer is a Hawthorne, the bottom drops out because their family has been feuding for 80 years. Summer is unaware until then.

This is where the Romeo and Juliet part begins and it’s handled superbly without being mushy or too much like the Shakespearean novel.

There is some bullying. The whole town actually hates the Hawthornes and Kingsley allows them to be bullies. He stops anyone from actually hurting Summer though.

The book does end on a HFN - no cliffhanger. The story just continues into a HEA by the end of book 2.

Book 2:

I actually like that the teenaged pregnancy was thrown in because this isn’t something seen a lot in these types of books nowadays. I do wish Summer had a little more backbone when standing up for them to her mom and dad, but I guess that shows her age and vulnerability. Summer was a teenage girl who had lived in a protected bubble all of her life.

Books 1 and 2 are very well-written, professionally edited, intriguing, very steamy, and with tons of teenaged angst and vulnerability thrown in. These are 18 year olds with some very adult problems and actions.

Highly recommend this author!

This was the perfect ending to the Hawthorne Prep duet! I love Kingsley and Summer so much! Their story is not one for the faint of heart. They go through so much throughout both books. My heart was so broken at times during their story and other times I was so mad! Kingsley can be so ruthless. It’s all about his pride and feeling rejected. I definitely wanted to jump into the book and kick his ass…multiple times! But I love him just as much because underneath it all he is just hurting for what he truly wants, the love of his life! He and Summer go through so many transitions that can only be described as *whiplash* but in the end their story has a HEA!

Jennifer is such an incredible author! The range of emotions she brought out of me while reading was just insane! I was so wrapped up in this story from the first chapter of book one! Bully romance is definitely a favorite trope and Jennifer knocked this one out of the park! If you haven’t read this duet you need to NOW!

MAJOR 4.5 Stars!!! This was a good ending!

Kingsley and Summer had it rough. To be so young they went through a lot. They had to grow up super fast and experienced a myriad of events that most seasoned adults don’t. These events made them grow up, emotionally, super fast and helped mold who they’d become.
Kingsley treated Summer like crap and I don’t feel he was made to pay NEARLY enough for what he did and allowed to happen so that is the only reason for me removing half a star. The h is being made out to be weak by allowing H to walk all over her. Makes her seem like she is lacking in self esteem and not worth a fight. No thank you! Other than that? I loved the drama and intrigue. Kept me invested and inhaling this book for sure. It ended kind of abruptly with a few loose ends but maybe those to be answered in Austin’s books?
All in all, a pretty darned good read! I got lost in the story and that is THE ultimate staple of a great novel!!

Emotional support needed

Well that certainly tugged at my heartstrings. There is so much to unpack that I'm not sure how I feel right now.

Kingsley and Summer had a lot to deal with in this book and as much as I enjoyed it I did feel like there were things that could have been addressed that weren't.

The ending seemed a bit rushed—one minute they are at odds, then it's all fixed and we had an epilogue. I feel a little cheated about what happened in the five years.

What happened with Sloane? Did Summer get retribution?
What transpired with Everly and Duke?

I'm hoping we get answers in the other books.

Although I have issues with how somethings played out, I enjoyed it. There was drama, turmoil, playful banter, steam and oh-so-much steam and emotions.

I jumped right into this one because I needed to know how Kingsley and Summer will come back from the fallout. My heart broke for the unexpected tragedy of the Hawthorne family. Since moving to Hawthorne, that family has been hit with one issue and another. I was really sad for them. Then the issues with Summer and Kingsley. There was no way they would find common ground, and for the majority of the book, they didn't. But what made me mad was how Summer's character was undeveloped. She was portrayed as without a spine and always keeping her mouth shut! I wanted her to speak up and stand up to Kingsley and not be a sexual slave to him. In my opinion, she never emerged to be the ultimate Queen to Kingsley's kingliness. I was disappointed but was glad their got their HEA at the end.

Where was a Kingsley when I was 18?

Where to start? I’ve read so many books and gone on to read many more based on recommendations from Goodreads, but I never left a book review. That changes today because I fell for Kingsley. Hard.

I’ve read at least a couple of Jennifer Sucevic’s college romance novels but the male leads weren’t nearly as scorchingly hot nor as self-assured as Kingsley is written. Is it because of the publication date and the Hawthorne Prep series is newer? I don’t know, but I’m glad this book exists. It’s shot up to the top of my bully romance list. All because of Kingsley.

The extra submissiveness of this heroine threw me. I hoped she would have a bit more growth but she didn't, Kingsley's short fuse bully tactics with her silent door at like tendencies I did not love. The story was well written though and the creepy vibes with King's Dad could've been explored to give a bit more closure to that plot diversion. All in all I liked Everly best. Lol she was what I was hoping Summer would transform into as a character. Just didn't feel like King or his dad respected her at all after everything felt like their relationship just stayed unhealthy even though it had an HEA

What's It Like To Be Pushed Around?

This story is the epitome of not just love gone wrong. It's about how every step you take goes wrong. In book one, they come to terms with their family obligations. This book is about betrayal, loyalty, revenge, obsession, and choosing love. It kicks bullying up a notch while still delivering steamy, spicy scenes. Kingsley may be a big jerk, but he's the one you fall for and want to cheer on. i love this story from beginning to end. Jennifer, this is an amazing series. I can't wait to start Austin's story.

Truly Great!

I loved this series so much! The story and writing are excellent and the characters are kick ass! Kingsley and Summer are everything...
everything sexy, addictive, exciting. surprisingly and more. Kingsley is dominant, caring, sexy, confident and crazy about Summer. They fight to know each other and against their history. I couldn't get enough of them, especially the sexy, determined, dominant Kingsley! An Amazing and Awesome book!!! Perfection!

I wanted to like it more, but the lack of content warnings, especially for the dubious consent, was a problem. The heroine has potential to actually grow, but falls too short to make the bulky dynamic work. Add in so much miscommunication and missing lack of insight from the characters, with a dash of unnecessary repetition and it fell short.

I greatly enjoy JS and her more recent books. This one just fell flat

Wow! I loved this book so much!! Summer and Kingsley together were phenomenal. I’ve always loved Jennifer Sucevic books, but this one is my favorite. Fitting conclusion for Kingsley and Summer

This book gave me so many feels. Happines, sadness, loss, anger, bitterness, vengful and lastly bliss. That is a lot of emotion to pack into one book but Queen of Hawthorne Prep has it all! Kingsley is a complete jerk most of the time and Summer has a problem opening up. But in the end the chemistry between the two cannot be ignored.
