BLANK, published in France in 1991 at Editions Unes, is a soul searching, frighteningly truthful prose meditation on life and the making of poetry, from one of several notebooks by the author to be published following his early death from cancer. Roger Giroux lived a mostly private life as an uncompromisingly pure poet. He is best known for the single volume of poetry that appeared during his lifetime, from Mercure de France in 1964, L'Arbre Le Temps, that was awarded the Prix Max Jacob.
Roger Giroux (1925–1974) was a French poet. Giroux's one book was awarded the Prix Max Jacob award. Translator of W.B. Yeats, Lawrence Durrell, and others. A sample of his poems is included in The Random House Book of Twentieth-Century French Poetry, edited by Paul Auster, and generally recognized as the best anthology of Modern French poetry in English translation.
