When EJ Hunter, a female soldier, returns home from Afghanistan, her unit is attacked by a terrorist while turning in their weapons on base. In the middle of the attack she turns into a werewolf and rips out the terrorist's throat. Instead of being court-martialed or sent to an unknown location as a lab rat, her CO gives her an honorable discharge and sends her home to her people.

Living in the desert away from people sounds like a good deal to EJ Hunter. She is a freak. Then she meets Adam Wolcott, the Alpha of a small desert werewolf pack. Plus he knows her uncle.
