Famous and highly-successful author, Maxwell Tucker is screwed. For the first time in his life, he’s blocked and his next book is overdue. He’s always written in long hand and he’s never seen the need to learn to type. Now there’s nothing to type because Max is stuck. Then Nicole Miller sneaks into his penthouse, trying to get Max off her father’s back and Max has a devious idea….
Nicole’s lovable, doofus father always means well, but he doesn’t really think things through. With the goal of improving the once-prosperous family’s finances, Alton has written a book on how to succeed in business. But in writing his self-published manual, Alton has plagiarized large sections from major author, Max Tucker’s highly-acclaimed fictional novel about business practices in the United States. And now Tucker is suing.
Not knowing Tucker’s dilemma, Nicole--who has always looked after her dad--takes on the job of averting this disaster, but she’s shocked when Max insists she become his typist for the summer…or he’ll ruin her dad.
Can a snarling, unhappy genius finish his book and still win the girl?

I got a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have read a couple of books already by Carol Rose and enjoyed them and this was no different. When I first began reading it, I got a whole Beauty and the Beast feel. You've got Max who is lets be honest...a dick. And then you've got the beautiful Nicole, who in an act of defending her father, ends up staying with him and becoming his typist. Nicole is just what Max needs, someone who's not scared to say what she thinks of him and in this book we begin to see Max change. He begins to see himself how others see him and he doesn't particularly like it. This book brought out my emotions, when things got complicated between the characters I felt like it was happening to me. The only thing that i didn't understand was how quick she went from hating him to loving him within the space of one night, but then they do say there's a very fine line between love and hate. Mr Personality is a book of finding yourself and changing for the right reasons. Another good one from Carol Rose, good read :)
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!!
This is the first book I have read by Carol Rose and I very much enjoyed it.
This story is refreshing. Even though it started a bit slow for me the author took us on an emotional journey with Nicole & Max. Take Nicole, a strong-minded, independent, take control kind of girl. Then we have Max, Mr. complex, over-acheiver, crude & 100% male. Both characters are well developed, possessing depth & challenge.
Every turn of the page brought emotional highs & lows. You can't help but think how Max would be if only he had a decent parental upbringing, but Nicole just has that larger than life persona and is willing to do just about anything to support Max & bring him into the real world.
I definately recommend this book and look forward reading more to come from the author.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Maxwell Tucker is difficult to deal with and to work for, but he had put up walls all around him. He is a very successful author and it seems everyone wants something from him. He is working on a book that has been in the making for a year and a half and he has already missed two deadlines with his publisher for the first time ever. He is getting desperate and hasn't written a single page. He has to first hire a typist because unlike other author's, he has never learned to type and writes old school on a legal pad. The problem is his ability to treat his employees decently. This is where Nicole comes in. Nicole is a teacher in a rough school system in Chicago and is accustomed to dealing with troubled teenagers. She is also the person that makes sure her father is taken care of. At the moment, Maxwell Tucker is suing her father for plagiarism. Nicole has tried everything and now doesn't want her father to go bankrupt because of this suit. So, she takes a chance and flies to New York in order to try to convince Max that her father did not do this on purpose. While waiting outside his apartment building to try to catch him coming and going, she gets grouped with other ladies going to his apartment for an interview. Before you know it, she is his new typist and they strike a deal that she cannot turn away from. Nicole and Max begin to spend much time working together and she becomes pushy and he works hard at ignoring her. He gets over his writer's block and the book is moving right along. Over time, they both begin to see little things that they are willing to do differently. They begin to see things about each other that the outside world doesn't. However, Max doesn't know how to love because he has never been loved. Things become complicated when Max's brother and friend become involved and secrets surface. Somethings just can't be ignored or tolerated. Nicole, at the same time has hard decisions to make, including if she is willing to go through with this deal in order to save her father. The real questions about this story that will keep you turning the pages are whether they truly love each other and can overcome their own personal issues? When I read this book, my interest was kept throughout. The vocabulary was varied and interesting, making this a very well written book. The author dives deep into the minds of these characters to bring us into their lives. I highly recommend this read.
Maxwell Tucker has to be just about the nastiest, most unlikeable hero I’ve ever read in a romance novel.
There. I said it.
He has everything else going for him, wealth, talent, huge intellect but he’s a narcissist. Now that’s not to say I didn’t like him because I really did. MR PERSONALITY had me riveted to my Kindle the entire time. And there’s the fact that we all know someone like him, a nasty, bad tempered person who can’t find happiness in anything so they make sure none of the rest of us do either. But then, Maxwell Tucker never met Nicole Miller. Much of the story takes place in Max’s point of view, refreshing to read since there are so few romance stories out there written in the male’s point of view. Carol Rose captures his angst, anger, frustration, and the deep set feelings he develops for the woman who starts out as his typist, becomes his muse, and his lover.
There are no flowers, chocolates or sweeping off your feet here. Max is a raw character with many flaws and a huge baggage train. I found the scenes where he has to examine his feelings for Nicole the most interesting. Carol Rose peels back the layers to reveal the real Max, a vulnerable man who’s been kicked around for the sake of his talent and intelligence and the wealth it could bring to those closest to him. It’s a fascinating character study.
The plot is actually pretty simple which only adds to the allure in my opinion. It’s a fish out of water story with both protagonists as the fish. Supporting characters are well-written and they fit in into the story very well.
The only thing I wanted was more! I didn’t want to stop reading about this unusual couple and would love to see how they ended up.
Add this fun and poignant story to your must read list!
I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for an honest review
5 Stars
Carol Rose is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I have read quite a few of her books in the last few months and I am always pleasantly surprised about how much I like her books.
Meet Nicole: A Chicago teacher who is out to save her father who plagiarized some of famous author Max Turner work by accident. (Or maybe accidentally on purpose I could never figure this one out). Nicole lands a job after a crazy interview as Max's typist in exchange for the plagiarism charges against her father to be dropped.
Meet Max: a troubled artist/genius who allows Nicole into his home and his heart. What began as just an agreement turns into so much more.
The entire book was just real to me. I felt like I was with the characters and everytime that Max pushed Nicole away I could here myself saying:
I would suggest this book to anyone who wants a romance (with a wee bit of angst) Carol Rose has once again surprised me with her wonderful work.
First I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I'm not a professional reviewer but I am someone who reads a lot of books.
Carol Rose has written and developed Max & Nicole's characters so well that even when we don't like some of Max's interactions with Nicole we still care about them and want to see if they can make a relationship work. As we are taken through the story we come to understand some of what influenced Max to become the person he is at the time he meets Nicole. We also see how Nicole's relationship with her father has a lot to do with her need to help people. Yes there are some steamy sex scenes and they are a very necessary part of the story development. Once I started reading this novel I didn't want to put it down.
Synopsis: Can a snarling, unhappy genius finish his book and still win the girl? Famous and highly-successful author, Maxwell Tucker is screwed. Spoiler Alert I was given this book for an honest review by the author. Thank you Carol Rose :) I enjoyed this story. 3.5 Nicole is a strong tell the truth to your face women. She goes to N.Y. to talk to an author whom is known for his attitude and arrogance towards people. She sees him to "rescue" her father from the lawsuit between the two men. A deal made when they finally meet. He will drop the lawsuit if she helps him finish his book. The intimacy between Nicole and Max was hot! I liked the arguing between the two. Max is a brat and Nicole doesn't put up with his nastiness. However, I found it interesting that at one point in the story they both wanted to help each other grow but for two different reasons. I felt sad for Max because before Nicole he never really felt any kind of real emotion for another human being. In the span of a summer both characters grow and realize that each person has to learn from his own mistakes and that a person can change for the better if they really want to.
There were so many reasons not to like this book - namely Max Tucker. As unlikable a character as you can find. Yes, surprisingly, because of seeing him through Nicole Miller's eyes, I did like him. Very much! Max is a best selling author with an acidic personality who can't keep an assistant. And he needs one, because he can't type. He writes his books longhand and needs someone to transcribe them. Nicole Miller is a teacher at a Chicago inner city school. She comes to NY to meet with Max, to try and get him to drop his lawsuit against her dad, who plagiarized one of his books. Max strikes a deal with Nicole to act as his assistant so he can get his book done in exchange for dropping the lawsuit. Nicole is a fixer - she likes to make people happy and realize their full potential, which is why she's such a great teacher. And what she sees in Max is a lonely, isolated, sad and angry man that she wants to fix. Over the summer they both teach each other something, and find (although unwanted, especially on Max's part) love.
This is another wonderful and deep story about a super genius writer who is stuck without a typist and a young woman who connives to see him so she can convince Max to drop the lawsuit against her father for accidentally plagiarizing his work.
Max comes off as brass and beyond conceited! His monologues are exactly what I imagine a genius writer would think and feel. He immerses himself so completely into the stories. The characters talk to him. He NEEDS to let them out. He has such a dark and hard childhood. He is the unfortunate product of that childhood.
Nicole somehow see beyond his many layers and slowly falls in love. But she is not a rose-tinted glasses girl. She sees his true nature and struggles with the decision to love him in spite of his failings.
The book cover is so deceiving because you assume it will be a light romp of a romance. This story is stark and intelligent. Carol Rose takes standard trope of girl working for genius and ups the ante.
Ok, I read this across two days and have been thinking about what to write as a review. I like the story, the characters are actually all believable. The writing is pretty good and the intimate scenes are also well written. The author was true to how I'd imagine Max and Nicole to interact and evolve together. There are some issues with proofreading which I have messaged the author about on here and she is taking care of those to improve the read. Those aside I did enjoy the book a lot.
This had been on my to be read list for a while and I'll be checking out the authors other books in future.
I enjoyed this book, the banter between the two characters was one of my favorite parts. Love how she always manages to bring him down a few begs. The title of the book says it all because he truly has NO personality in the beginning. I really found the way they came together in the beginning comical and the fact that she compares him to her troubled Chicago High School students. I will not spoil the end, all I will say is “everyone needs a little humility in their life”. I was pleasantly surprised on how he finally wooed her. I would love to see a follow up book on the brother !
I loved it! I always love author Carol Rose's unique story lines. Max and Nicole did not disappoint. Max the beast pulls Nicole into his world as she tries to save her father, she discovers maybe she needs to save Max from himself. As only Carol Rose can do the story line was unique and littered with humor and romance and made me fall in love with Max and Nicole. I can't wait to read her next book! **bouncing in my seat, I totally loved the ending**
I would not recommend this book. I enjoyed the hero however the heroine ruined the book. She was obnoxious, overbearing, and judgmental. I would've preferred those traits to be minimal.
The first book I read by this author was enjoyable however this book became a chore. Therefore, this is my last book by this author.
This book was okay. I have to admit, the characters are good. However, the pacing was a bit too slow for me. There are many books that I enjoy that I will probably read again- this was not one of them.
I was sent a copy of this book and asked to write a review. This is the first book I have read written by Carol Rose and really enjoyed it. The characters of Max and Nicole were enjoyable. I look forward to reading more by Carol Rose.
This book was really good, I say read. You have a recluse who is so bitter about life and the girl so used to taking care of people that she can see behind his asinine behavior.
Another good read by this author but it definitely needed a proof read. The author uses the word "lie" when it should be "lay" a lot which gets really irritating!
