What a lovely book, with amazing characters and a heroine I loved for her heart. The hero Gabe is a doctor, a sports one who wants some privacy after the events of the past few months(his ex went all stalkery on him and had a breakdown) and he spots a treehouse for rent that belongs to the heroine Roxie. When he meets her she is drenched and looks 17, he notices her but she is much too young but they come to an agreement he will rent the place out for a year.

Roxie is not 17 she is 22 and she has spent the past five years caring for her grandfather, who is dead now. She had such a good heart and had been disappointed and let down so badly in life but she doesn't let that get her down instead now she is determined to enjoy her freedom, in the past year she has fixed up the house enough that it can be rented, that money would help her go overseas and fulfill her dream of watching ballet in London. The next time she meets Gabe it is a transformation, she is wearing mini-shorts, has had her hair done and is wearing a push-up bra and dealing with a bee sting.

Gabe learns that Roxie is a new dancer for the Blades, the team he is a doctor for. Roxie is warned by the girls about his reputation, he comes from money and is known for not getting tied down and after the fiasco with his ex he is not getting involved with a dancer again and all this seems perfect to Roxie, she doesn't want forever, she thinks she is like her mom who gave birth to her and left for UK(she died when she was eight) and broke her older parents heart. Roxie didn't even know her father and was raised by her grandparents and was a good girl, who cared for both her grandparents, her grandmom died at 16 and then she just took care of her grandfather not doing things a normal teenager would instead dealing with sickness and a society that didn't care.

She has dealt with too many losses to want to put herself on the line again, so Gabe with his lack of commitment and good lover reputation would be perfect to lose her virginity with. I loved how Gabe saw through her Foxy Roxie act to the real good girl Roxanne.

What I like best in a romance is a heroine who leaves the hero baffled and Roxie does that. Poor Gabe he tries so hard not to sleep with her, she is a virgin who can be hurt he thinks but she chases him and knows what she wants. The day they sleep together it is Gabe who wants more and wonders how did she just walk off?It kind of pisses him off so he propositions her, he will show her more and that sounds perfect but it is Gabe who wants more and wants to break through her barriers to the personal. Each and every thing about her comes with some effort, how she had never danced in front of an audience and left dance at 16, how she had a boyfriend but he and neither did her friends could understand the condition at home, how she is all alone in the world, each time she uses sex to maintain distance and the hero hates it, he feels as if he is being used and it shouldn't bother him that Roxie seems to have the same philosophy as him, no ties nothing but it bothers him.

His rebelling from his family of rich farmers to become a doctor seems nothing when compared to the challenges Roxie has faced and overcome and I loved seeing the hero so emotionally involved and uncertain and that he had to give chase. The book just had such a modern feel to it and had depth as well. I'd recommend this book heartily.

Wow! Not since Adam Black in The Immortal Highlander have a read this good a description of a heroine losing her virginity! Jeez. If I hadn't wanted a do-over before, I definitely want one now.

Whew! Give me a minute.

Ok. What a fun, sexy, oftentimes deeply introspective book. Having had the privilege to play a small part in the nursing of aging relatives, I can understand where this heroine is coming from. I also deeply respected her basically putting her life on hold to take care of those she loved. That part reminded me slightly of Roanna in Shades Of Twilight, but that is where those two heroines part ways.

Our Roxanna is no push-over. She knows what she wants and goes after it. Truth be told, it is a bit cliched and over the top, but it's an HP and it feeds my selfish need for the same. Well done!

What a wonderful book. It's been reviewed enough that no further description is needed. What I liked best was the character development. The actions, personality, and defense mechanisms of the H/h made perfect sense based on their life experiences. What they both wanted was a no strings attached fling, they both wanted to maintain there personal freedom. Turns out what they thought they wanted changed and getting past their defenses to come to terms with that was the obstacle. The HEA was great, the romance was great and the sex was hot.

DNF 50 pages left unless I decide to finish this book sometime (but I'd only do that if I had nothing else to read, and right now, I have plenty)

I really wasn't expecting the outcome of a DNF because I've liked all of Natalie Anderson's books that I've read. It pained me to DNF it, but I really wasn't enjoying it. I've given one of her Harlequin books a five-star, and she is my favorite Harlequin author. After this book, I'm warier of picking up another by her in case I don't like it.

She normally writes steamy books, but in this one, all the good bits were just glossed over. I hate whenever sex scenes are glossed over.

Maybe I'll try this book again. I have read some great books where the hero was named Gabe...
Also, the first scene I imagined taking place in my sister's bathroom for some reason.

I adored Roxie & Gabe !! Roxie is one determined h , she knows what she wants and goes for it. After putting her life on hold for years to take care of her grandparents, she is fully determined to have her life back and start having fun. Gabe doesnt know what hits him. He has no chance to resist Roxie, thu he tried hard.
NA is one of my fav authors & every one of her books is a new proof of how talented she is. Fresh, fun, breezy & sassy, yet full of depth & emotions.
Highly recommended !!

I tried really hard to get into this book but I simply never did. I didn't care for the heroine at all. And the hero...I don't think there is any kind of team sport that's going to be okay that their team doctor dates and sleeps with the dancers/cheerleaders. That is just all kinds of wrong and I found it a real turn off as well as overstepping boundaries. I really struggled with that.

this book has a bit of a twist on the regular HP romances, as in this one, the heroine is the aggressor and the hero is reluctant to bed her! of course, there are reasons for the behavior of both of them, and it was a fun book.

wow I am stunned, but I must say, I hated this book. that is what I get for allowing another review to sway my opinion. I liked the H and h, just thought there was no plot substance. I did finish the book, so there is that. but skimmed the end.

Gabe was a sweetheart but I couldn't like or understand the heroine. She was blind and delusional, a bit too much for my taste.

Gabe is 31, the doctor for a rugby team in Christchurch NZ. He was raised to inherit his family's farming dynasty but rejected that to become a doctor. He only has short-term relationships. His previous girlfriend, a teenage dancer in the team cheer-leader squad, turned stalkerish. When Gabe sees the 'To Let' sign outside Roxie's tree house, which is hidden in a tangle of greenery, he thinks it's perfect as his ex wouldn't look for him there. When he meets Roxie, who is small & slender, he thinks she's about 17 but that doesn't stop him from desiring her. Next day, guess who's auditioning for a job as a dancer for the cheer squad? They trade double entendres while he treats her for a bee sting. Inappropriate or what?

Roxie is actually 22 & still a virgin because she's spent the last 5 years caring for her dying grandparents. No-one looked out for her when she was struggling. She has no family left & relies only on herself.

Gabe is arrogant & patronising. He thinks the team's dancers are man-hunters but what is a 31 year old man, let alone the team doctor, doing sleeping with girls in their late teens?

Roxie decides that Gabe would be the perfect man to lose her 'V-plates' with but doesn't want to get involved. They become lovers & her determined independence makes him want her all the more but they don't talk to each other as she's afraid of appearing vulnerable & he's too proud.

I found this story unbelievable. Roxie's back-story is pretty unlikely. Gabe disrespects women & is a jerk for much of the book but we're expected to believe that falling for Roxie turns him into a caring guy? (OK, he does love his mother & sister). They appear mismatched as a couple. It's not until the last chapter that they start communicating.

This book was just OK. I think it was because the characters just didn't seem to work together for me. Roxie is young in age, but she grew up fast when her mother left, then Roxie had to devote her life to caring for her elderly grandparents at the ends of their lives. Now she's ready to begin her life, and she's anxious to cross some things off her list, such as becoming a dancer, going on an adventurous trip, and losing her virginity. When she sees Gabe, she decides he's the one. Gabe is the doctor for a rugby team, and Roxie is a dancer supporting the team. He's always been a one-night-stand kind of guy. But suddenly he's attracted to Roxie and quickly becomes totally enamored with her. Their relationship was sexual, of course, because of the reason that it began. And there are plenty of hot scenes, but they just didn't seem to click. And their continued arms-length relationship otherwise went on way too long. That being said, it overall was a nice read.

Roxie and Gabe are a cute couple. Roxie, in particular, is someone you want to root for because she's experienced quite a bit of tragedy in her 22 years. I liked that she was a dancer and her assertiveness is going after her goals, one of which is to lose her v card. Cute cute story.

I would read out little bits of the story and had my husband either pulling a face and trying not to laugh or actually laughing. Great story.

this story was quite fun to read, it was a bit less stereotypical in a way that the heroine was the aggressor and pursued the guy for sex while the guy was more reluctant. as it is small book, there isn't much room for character development but a decent amount of it is seen through out the book.
for instance my opinion of the heroine changed from young innocent girl to CONFIDENT I'LL DO WHAT I CAN TO GET WHAT I WANT kinda girl. and our hero who supposedly had a playboy rep seemed to care more about sex than she did, not that she didn't care about it, cos she was a virgin.
as we read on, we see that our main characters have been through some fairly challenging stuff with their family and that there is more to them than meets the eye.
the main issue i had with this story and the characters was their lack of communication. i have always felt that people should be more honest when it comes to their feelings, cos it saves much more time and heartache but i guess this story was partially about opening up, so it did happen eventually.
as in all harlequin presents novels, it ended on a happy note, and i would recommend this to anyone who is interested in a quick fun and romantic read

She's ready to get going—starting with the big one—losing her "V" plates!

A Fun, Flirty, Sexy read! This story did not quite conform to the 'Presents' mould, for that alone "First Time Lucky?" has got to be one of the best presents I had read this year.

Natalie Anderson has a winner here with "First Time Lucky", this book is exceptionally well written. I loved the characters in this book, foxie Roxie was a heck of a girl; She knew what she wanted and there was no stopping her while hunky adorable Dr. Gabe was the perfect hero for Roxie ........what a Hottie. *Blush*.

I really enjoyed reading First Time Lucky and would highly recommend reading this book.

Roxie missed out on all the teenaged adventures in life while caring for her grandparents. After their death, she decides to list each achievement and enjoy a bottle of champagne to celebrate. Finding herself with a very sexy new tenant, she decides Gabe is perfect for the job of ending her virginity.

Gabe Hollingworth has had enough of young, push women. Finding himself with a young, vibrant and desirable woman as a landlord, he tries to stop from claiming her. Her tries to resist, but there is just something incredibale about her that keeps him coming back.

Overall, I thought it was just OK.

First Time Lucky? is a gorgeously developed and engaging novel. The relationship between Roxanna and Gabe grows steadily over the course of the book, and the final chapter is breathtakingly tender.
