A Hope Revealed

Rate this book
Pain. Disappointment. Fear.

Life turned out differently than Mary Colter expected. With her abusive husband either missing or dead, and the ranch gone, she is left to raise her two children on her own. When a neighbor takes compassion on her, she finds her hope ignited—perhaps she can start over on her brother-in-law’s ranch in Arizona.

Warren Cahill is confronted with one problem after another in his new role as foreman of Colter Ranch. Missing cattle and hot-headed cowhands take most of his attention. When Mary arrives at the ranch, tensions rise and he finds himself in the middle of it.

Will Mary’s hope for a life free from abuse finally be realized? Can Warren move beyond his past to embrace a new hope?

Faith, hope, and love come alive in the rugged beauty of Arizona.

As a member of Faith Hope & Love Christian Writers and author of over 30 Christian contemporary cowboy romances and historical romances, I write faith-laced stories where characters feel like lifelong friends. My novels follow flawed individuals who need second chances, redemption, or the courage to overcome personal trials—all set against the backdrop of real Arizona history and the landscapes I treasure.

My husband, Jim, and I live in Gilbert, Arizona with our two dogs, Bella and Daisy. We love exploring our beautiful state together, discovering new adventures that often find their way into my stories. We're also involved at Rock Point Church in Queen Creek.

Thank you for joining me on these journeys through the Arizona I love.

A fitting end to a spectacular series. A Hope Revealed tells us of a woman's quest to start over, away from the memories and the constant fear of a brutal husband. Mary Colter lived for two years in constant fear of her husband's return whilst desperately trying to provide for her two children. After a stroke of divine provision, she decides to move to the still untamed Arizona Territory, where she finds refuge with her kind brother-in-law. Her hopes are dashed when she finds that she has not run away from her husband but rather straight into him. Reuben Colter's Desire to seek revenge for his own failures put his brother's entire family in harm's way. After his own greed destroys his thriving business, he will stop at nothing to see the demise of his own brother. Warren Cahill has suffered incredible loss and has also had his heart broken. He finds love but has to struggle to learn to trust again.

This book is beautifully written, just like the rest of the series. Filled with love, hope and tear jerking romance, we see families reunited and hearts learning to trust again. The stories of many are intricately woven together to form an awesome experience. Several issues are brought up in this novel. A young boy must learn to live without the love of a father whom he so desperately wants to be with. Losing him, he is angry at the world and those he thinks have kept him from his father's love. I especially liked the fact that the characters of this book sought to depend on God to sort of their situations. This book brings hope to women who have suffered abuse, teaching them that it is possible to start over. There's plenty to learn here about forgiveness also, as we see with Julia and Mary Colter. And above all, the kindness shown by Will Colter reminds us that there is always somebody willing to help in our hour of need. We need only ask. This book is definitely an excellent end to a series that I am sad to see end.

Mary Prescott is working her fingers to the bone trying to support herself and her two children, Eddie and Beth, since her husband, Reuben Colter, left them. Every time a dead man is found she is asked to come and identify her husbands body, the problem, so far none of them have been Reuben so she continues to live in fear that he'll return.

One night after the children are sleeping she hears a knock on the door, as fear grips her, thinking it is Reuben returning, she answers to find a strange woman. This woman reveals a secret about one thing Reuben did to her that she never knew about, a new low for Reuben even. A few days later Mary is told that her father secretly left her some money so she makes a decision to move west to Will Colter's, Reuben's brother, ranch hoping if Reuben does return he won't know where to find her and the children.

It isn't long after arriving that she discovers she isn't safe at all. Mary will do anything to protect her children, even if it means not telling Will everything. When Will finds out what she's been hiding he to kick her out of his home but Hannah, his wife, won't let him do that.

I think this is the best book in the series, I found myself with tears running down my cheeks several times. Oh the things Mary had to go through in her marriage and the things she found out about her husband that she never knew, but she kept her strength and moved forward. You really do need to read the whole series, I think anyway, to get the full impact of this book. In the first three you only get a glimpse of how hard it was being married to Reuben Colter but you need that to realize just how mean a human being he really is.

I would definitely recommend this book, this series! I really enjoy Karen's writing and will be looking for more books from her.

Hope and Faith

This family has grown over a four year period. There is more love, strength, and courage amongst each and ever one of them. They are all a family. They love and support each other in every way. They all have had their own individual trials in life, some not so bad others to their extreme limit.

They have weathered their storms, blessed by God's grace and their strong faith. They did it together.

A Hope Revealed is the fourth book in the Prescot Pioneer series by Karen Baney. This story follows after the previous ones int he series, so it is best to read them in order. This is a nicely written story that brings back minor characters from the beginning of the series. The story focuses on the older Colter brother, Reuben, his wife and children.

As the Larsen family is planning to move to the Prescott area, Mary Colter wants to move on with her life and get away from the possible return of her husband Reuben. At the perfect time, she finds out her father left an inheritance for her children.

This story is well written and easy to read. This story has a darker side to it with the return of Reuben who has changed his name and look and has plans to take out Will ranch. I found the story to be enjoyable with how Mary and her children move forward. I enjoy the parts of the women working together for the ranch and how devoted they are to each other. I appreciate how the men struggle with the need to protect themselves and their families.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, this is my honest review.

The Clans of Colter's, Larson's, and Cahill's

I have read all in this Series (hoping for more).

Take the time to get to know the characters and fall in love with these stories, too.

A Hope Revealed is the last in this series. I enjoyed reading about the Colters and other familie

And their journey to a new life. Some of the difficulties were minor and others took much faith and prayer to overcome. I recommend this series The Prescott Pioneers.

Very heartfelt!

I had not read her previous stories, so I'm some ways felt like I walked into the middle of their lives. It was easy to catch up with, though. I loved Mary and Warren's story, how they dealt with their hurts, and allowed the love to happen.

Another romantic love story with another great couple. A lot of surprises with many obstacles along the way. A lot of hurts to give to God for healing and wholeness. Well written and enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.

Good series.

Always enjoy historical fiction, especially pioneers in early American west. How they even survived all they faced is difficult to understand, but I'm glad they did.

Since her husband disappeared two years ago, Mary Colter has supported herself and her two children as a laundress, and tried to escape marriage to men who will no doubt treat her as badly as her husband did. When she receives a small inheritance, she uses it to travel to Prescott, to the home of her brother-in-law, in the hope that he will take her in and she will finally be able to escape Reuben’s influence. But Mary finds, to her horror, that she might have brought more danger to Prescott.

Overall, this was probably my least favourite story of the four, because several of the characters behaved out of character. I found it inconsistent that Julia managed to forgive Reuben (in the second book), yet she was absolutely hateful towards Reuben’s wife, Mary, when she appeared in A Hope Revealed. This suggests to me that she had not really forgiven Reuben either (not that I blame her – it was the inconsistent behaviour that annoyed me). Eddie hates his father and wishes he were dead, yet when he gets his wish, he declares that he hates Warren for killing Reuben. I know Eddie’s only supposed to be a child, but that still seems out of character. I also found Will rather annoying in the final book, particularly in regard to Reuben.

Thanks to BookRooster for providing a free ebook for review (I actually read the 4-in-1 volume, Prescott Pioneers).

I received a copy of "A Hope Revealed" by Karen Baney through the Goodreads Giveaway Contest.

A Hope Revealed is a well written novel filled with love, romance and hope for a better future.

Mary Colter has lived the last two years in a abusive marriage. Her husband has disappeared and she doesn't know if he is dead or alive.
She must focus on providing for her two children. In order to make ends meet, Mary rented out an old building and started offering laundry services. This is the story of a woman's need to start over and make a better life for her and her two children. When presented with a bit of luck, she decides to move to Arizona, where she finds refuge with her kind brother-in-law. But then to her amazement, she finds that she has not run away from her husband, Reuben Colter, but rather right to him. Reuben, with all his serious debt problems, has put his brother's entire family in danger. Warren Cahill, the foreman at Colter Ranch has had many problems and has also had his heart broken. He needs to learn to trust again. When Mary arrives at the ranch, Warren is thrown into the middle of the tension.

With alot of faith and new hope, maybe both lives can start a new beginning.

This book was a disappointment. It's not nearly as good as the other books in the series. The plot was far too melodramatic. As another reviewer mentioned, several characters behave in ways that are out of character. There was a lot of potential here, but the final product is lacking.

Historical inaccuracies:

Adam gives Julia a cowboy hat for her birthday

The whole plot with Warren's divorce, which is a major part of the story

Good Christian book

This book was so ministering to my heart it was hard to relive the horrors these women went thru but the gift was God's amazing grace. It's terrible and heart wrenching to know some will turn there backs on Jesus with no return. Thank you for such a series you are a good author and I am blessed by reading this series. Thank you for no detailed sexual acts. I recommend this book and series.

I love the old pioneer time line. I didnt think this one was as good as the other 3 (for some reason I couldnt decide). It ended well & kept me engaged. I was hopping Betty's son Paul would have a story/find a nice wife...maybe another book can be written for him?? I look foreward to reading more from this Author...hopefull she will stick to the pioneer/mid to late 1800's for her writing.

I liked these books because they had interesting characters and historical details. But the story lines were pretty similar from book to book (I only read Prescott Pioneers #2 to #4) - man needs Jesus, woman needs Jesus, they fall in love with each other and develop a relationship with God. Not that that's a bad story line, it was just kinda predictable.

Oh what a story! I am sad that this is the last of the prescott series. I have read every one of them. I thank the author for bringing such stories to life and also for bringing the Lord into each story. It was uplifting and very realistic!

Loved the whole series

I love western and Pioneer books and movies. Even as a child my favorites were Laura Ingalls Wilder. I often think I was born in the wrong century. I would recommend to anyone who wants a good read.
