The Method Writers

Rate this book
Four Writers. Four Methods. One Twisted Novel.

When four eager writers adopt the "method acting" approach to add realism to their individual writing projects, their mundane lives are replaced by the outrageous, and each is plunged into a journey they never dreamed possible.

Dorian Nettle is a 29 year-old journalist who dreams of earning a Pulitzer Prize someday. She takes an undercover job at the call center of a local escort service to discover if she's anything like her late (birth) mother a New Orleans' hooker. David Hass describes himself as an unsuccessful, financially-impaired writer whose personal life is as depressing as his writing career. In an attempt to avenge his abused love interest, David is confronted with how far he ll go to personalize his fictitious vigilante character, Kenny Black. Georgie Mae Perez, is a twenty-something girl whose look on life is both fearless and foolish. Frustrated that her writing is ordinary, she picks up a gun instead of a pen and creates a whole new world of prose. Marty Pitchford is a married man caught in a world of mediocrity and melodrama. Confronted by his wife s extramarital adventures, Marty embarks on his own tantalizing escapades. When his daughter s safety falls into the wrong hands, Marty must make a decision of what he truly wants.

Their adventures become dangerous to both themselves as well as others, and the way back appears bleak. Will they make important discoveries about themselves and each other that will be necessary to bring them home again? This group novel was dreamed up and written by Bridget Callaghan, Michael Ray King, Nancy Quatrano, and Jeff Swesky - the Rogues Gallery Writers. Also, check out Fictitious Fiction, the bold collection of short stories written by the actual characters from The Method Writers. "

Four writers writing one novel. This project is really cool. The book itself goes a lot of fun places. Since four writers wrote this book, the characters all have VERY unique voices and stories. I am biased, to be sure, but I am also my own worst critic. I am a member of the Rogues Gallery Writers, and this book is a great read!

I received this book through a Goodreads Giveaway, and just from the title, I was intrigued. As an English major in college, I was interested in the idea of four writers truly getting into their characters the way actors do on TV and in movies. Once I received the book, I also learned that the novel takes place in Daytona, which is an area I'm familiar with. However, even with all these reasons I should originally like the book, I still expected to hate it. I was wrong. I read the last 100 pages in one night and found myself rooting for all the characters. Though I ended loving all four of them, Marty and his story was my favorite by far, and unfortunately his story was possibly the shortest of them all. Nether the less, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a literary thriller, with enough family, danger, and sex to keep the readers interested.

Four would-be authors decide to take to heart the advice to "write what you know" by actually doing the things their characters do in the books they are writing. What starts out to be an experiment in realism very quickly lands all four of them in some seriously hot water. Can they get themselves out of trouble or not? You'll find yourself laughing out loud as you follow the capers of Dorian, David, Georgie Mae and Marty. Give yourself a treat . . . grab a mug of your favorite comfort brew and curl up with METHOD WRITERS.

A thoroughly enjoyable book written by, and about, four writers who decide to live their characters' situation in real life for experience. The problems that arise are funny and I loved the way they all intersected one another's lives. I especially enjoyed the ending....
Makes me look differently at my Writing Buddies....wonder if there would be a good story...
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good read and especially if you are involved in the craft itself....
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book through Goodreads.

I won't lie - it took me a little bit to get into this book, but once it caught, I could not put it down and finished the last 2/3 at the pool this afternoon. The four storylines merging into one was really smooth and interesting. A fun and light read is perfect for the end of the summer.

I truly enjoyed re-reading our group novel in preparation for its paperback release. It's such a fun read, no matter how many times I read through it. I love the contributions from all of my Rogues (Bridget, Mike and Nancy.) We'd let our imaginations run wild when writing this, and I'm very proud and honored to have been part of it! I can wait for the paperback to be released this summer!!
