Poetry. "Only a feminist could have seen the point at which the form of the journal and the tradition of the American longpoem meet. Infusing each with the critical introspection of psychoanalysis, this first volume of A READING challenges every myth surrounding Literature. Its shape that of one life intensely witnessed, A READING proves that poetry can still be an act of extraordinary courage, intellectual honesty, and commitment to humankind" -Ron Silliman.

I've never read something so close to the experience of consciousness itself. Dahlen's wandering mind and prose capture how the mind clicks and shoots around in vivid language and connective fragments of emotion or imagery. It is intellectual and the reader and Dahlen participate in this reading together, making something with language, exploring what it means to be, both with all the psychoanalytic aspects and with what reading actually is.
