The Popcorn Shop is a Hello Reader by Alice Low, author and Patti Hammel, illustrator. It has been popular over the years with the classes that I have taught. It is a bit long for preschool age children, although mature four-year-olds have enjoyed it many times in my preschool classrooms. It is a silly story about food and appealing the children. They also like the song that Nell sings.
I owned this book as a child, with a cassette, and at age 31 I finally googled the lyrics of the popcorn song to see if I could track down this book. I was very pleased to see it is still on the shelf in my library!
There's a book called The Popcorn Popper that was published in 1950 that is almost the exact same book as this. This is a total rip off. Right down to the rhymming, it's a wonder nobody was ever sued.
This is one of my 3 year old’s favorite books. She has the whole thing memorized (we all do!). It has the sweetest cadence and rhyming and a very fun story too (including twist ending!). Highly recommend this fun book, I’m hoping to encounter many copies at used book sales to buy up for friends 🙂🍿
A humorous, rhyming tale of Popcorn Neil who had a popcorn shop where she sold popcorn, and to meet her ever growing demand buys a larger popcorn machine. The machine goes haywire, and floods the town with popcorn. Popcorn Neil must come up with a solution to make the popping stop.
The publisher labeled this book as a Level 3 Easy Reader. It's a bit lengthy for storytime, but it was a fun story to share about popcorn popping everywhere. It's reminiscent of Strega Nona and her magic pasta pot.
This is a funny story in rhyme about Nell and her popcorn shop. When her popcorn came so popular that she couldn’t keep up, she bought a popcorn machine. When the machine worked too well, eventually Nell had far too much popcorn so that it became a public nuisance.
I thought that this book was a good book for younger readers. My daughter liked it so much she did a book report on it. I would recommend this book to others.
The Popcorn Shop is by far one of my favorite books of all time. It has good organization, it has a rhythm to it, and who deosn't love popcorn. Even though this book s a bit juevenile that does not deter it from being great.
First of all, let's talk about the good organization of this book. The book has everything a story needs and its in the correct order. It has a introduction of the protagonist, a in the body conflict, and a solution at the end. This is an important element to a book.
Secondly, this book has a rhythm that helps me enjoy reading it. It's almost like a poem, the words rhyme and the rhythm repeats itself. The fact that the book has a poetic flow to it makes the book fun.
Finally, who doesn't love popcorn or even a story about it. Popcorn is one of my favorite foods and I enjoy reading about it, eventhough at the end it turned its focus onto pizza.
So in effect to me being an organization freak, prefering my books to have a rhythm and loving popcorn. The Popcorn Shop is one of my favorite books.
This is a cute book for kids to begin to read on their own. You can talk about cause and effect. It is a great book to explore rhythm in because it has a song that you can sing with it. It is a good book to show literary techniques because it uses speech bubbles as a way to show who is talking.
The rhyming is really fun in this one. I used it for a "things that pop" themed storytime for 3-5 year olds and had them shout "POP!" every time the word came up in the book. They loved it!
