Includes yearly plans for each grade level, and a specific core of songs suggested for each new learning point within each grade. This second edition is a greatly revised and augmented version of the first edition. Among the additional material is a detailed section on the preschool years. The teaching repertoire given at the end of the book now contains 172 songs, 80 of which were not in the first edition.
Such a fantastic book. Despite being published in 1988, it still holds so much relevance to today and gives an in depth breakdown of the ideal sequence, language, questioning and lesson planning in line with Kodály’s approach to music education. I feel like I have a much better understanding of the premise behind the Kodály approach through this one book than I’ve gained through other books or professional development days. Highly recommend.
To better my understanding of music and philosophy behind Let's Play Music, the classes I teach, I read this book. Pretty amazing I think. It is written in the form of a textbook and explains how in Hungary, the Kodaly Method is used and how it can be used in the schools systems in the United States. It is amazing to me how important Music is to Hungary and how much American schools are lacking.
