Mihona Fujii (藤井みほな in Japanese) is a Japanese shōjo mangaka. Her debut work was Mujaki na mama de, published in the 1990 autumn issue of Ribon Original. Her works have been published in Ribon and, recently, Margaret, where her latest series, Tokyo Angels runs. She is best known for her manga GALS!, which was adapted into a TV anime series under the name Super GALS! Kotobuki Ran
Once again, it's a delight to dive back into this series, especially given it's been years since I last read it! Following where we last saw Ran and company, we meet up with them again, this time getting an introduction to Ran's younger sister, Sayo, and Sayo's best friend-boyfriend Masato.
This volume focuses a lot on the introduction of two rival kogals, Mami Honda and Harue Kudoh, the latter of whom turns out to be more of a threat, having once been a member of a rival gang to the gang that Miyu led in middle school. Most of the stories in this volume focus on Mami and Ran's growing rivalry, the tension between Harue and Miyu, and (somewhat in the background) Aya trying to come to terms with her growing feelings of first love for Rei Otohata. With Sayo and Masato carrying on their own unique brand of fun and mischief along the way, naturally!
As with the first installment, this volume does an excellent job of having fun and keeping the majority of its stories light-hearted, but still doesn't shy away from serious topics and how the girls continue to deal with it to the best of their ability. Once again, I always, always highly recommend this manga series to everyone! It's worth the read.
i really liked this sequel! i mostly loved sayo and yuya in this volume (but i like the rest too). sayo is so cute and fun! and i feel so bad for yuya, everyone always abandons him and whenever he cries otohata reacts so harsh and cold, like literally no one cares about him? even though he’s always so sweet to everyone? i’d give him a hug and let him cry on my shoulder :( he low key deserves better friends, i hope they’ll treat him better and stop taking him for granted in the next volumes

Nggak dilanjutkan lagi. Selesai begitu saja.

Aya deg-degan karena ingin confess pada Rei. Tapi sayangnya Rei tak bisa menerima perasaannya.
I was pretty fond of the first volume of this manga, but as the series went on the intense focus on consumption as entertainment really started to bother me. This manga is hardly an accurate reflection of the actual 'gal' subculture, nor can it be given the young readers that it's targeted at, but even so it trades on the counter-cultural idea of 'gals' to create a model that's really just as implicated in cultural problems as the values it's protesting against.
Saying that more simply: Gals are cool because they aren't doing that girls are supposed to do. They're not studying hard, they're not being polite to their parents, they aren't planning their future, and they aren't trying to find the perfect boyfriend. They goof off, stand up for each other, hang out on the streets, dress outrageously, and worry more about having a good time than anything else.
I get why this is attractive, and the way the girls look out for each other & defend each other is *awesome*. But... the way that the girls goof off and have fun is by spending money. They want to *buy things* and they feel like what they buy defines who they are. What's important in being a gal is to buy the right Gal-style clothes, accessories, make-up, etc. and then display them.
So while the gal culture in this manga is counter to a certain set of cultural expections, it just reinforces the problems of consumer culture, and argues that girls can 'be themselves' by buying into a packaged lifestyle. Which annoys me. So I didn't like the manga, and was pretty disappointed in it.
This fun series continues with our favorite gals running into more trouble and excitement. Ran makes another enemy Mami who both want to be the best GAL in all of Japan. Ran manages to show Mami that she can't push Ran around. We also meet Ran's sister Sayo who also wants to be a cop when she grows up and follow in the family footsteps. Miyu's past catches up with her when she is threatened by several emails sent to her phone. Everyone does their best to find the culprit before they find Miyu alone. Fortunately, for Miyu the culprit is found and quickly dealt with. Aya's grades are falling which leaves her parents very disappointed. She blames her new friends Ran and Miyu and calls their friendship quits. Rei helps her realize that she needs to live for herself not her parents and to live in the here and now like Ran was trying to say. This little talk not only gains back her friendship, but also increases her feelings for Rei. He unfortunately turns her down because he feels like being her first love would be too much responsibility. The manga is quite different from the show, but I wish the show was more like the manga in some ways.

the story about a gals girl name Kotobuki Ran from Hounan High School in Tokyo that really energic and a little deliquent. She have a big brother name Yamato, he is a police officer.
