Thirteen-year-old Angie is upset when she hears another girl call the street where she lives a slum, then feels responsible when her best friend loses his legs in an accident while trying to escape from it.
Oh my goodness, I LOVED this book when I was in middle school. I really, really loved it. It was originally published in 1980 and I was surprised at how not dated this book was. This is not literature - at all - but the love portrayed in this book and the forgiveness were all heartfelt and real. I don't love it now, but I can sure see why I did as a child. This is a sweet and tender book.
