You can now enjoy pub night at home with Small Bites. This great cookbook is full of great snacks, finger foods, and side dishes for formal entertaining or a casual nibble for two. The recipes range from simple one or two ingredient eats that can be made in minutes to more complex dishes that take a little more effort. Almost all of the recipes can be made in a half hour with very little marinating or preparation time. Since I tend to get in a mood to cook and grab a cookbook, I like that I don’t really have to organize myself ahead of time in order to make the majority of these dishes. I also know that these aspects will come in handy when unexpected guests show up at my door.
I used the recipes in Small Bites for a big get together. I cooked like a mad woman and had a very good spread to show for my efforts. Quite a few of the recipes said that they could be made ahead of time and reheated. I was a bit concerned, especially about the deep-fried onion rings, the corn fritters, and the zucchini cakes but they tasted just as crispy outside and wonderful inside as when I first made them.
Cookbook porn. The pictures of the foods in this book are just amazing. You want to lick them, touch them, gobble them up. The ingredients called for seem to include a lot of things I don't intend to buy---lemongrass, for example. Perhaps I will tart myself up one day and make a meal of small bites worthy of the concept. In the meantime, it sits innocently on my shelf, waiting to be perused again.
-a picture for every recipe!!! this is how cookbooks should be.
--recipes that interested me: -bagna cauda dip -roasted beet pesto with parmesan -garbanzo and pomegranate dip -white bean dip (with anchovy) -farro salad with anchovy, mint, and pecorino -halloumi and sourdough spiedini with lemon anchovy drizzle -pork and shrimp dumplings -bresaola and pear rolls with arugula and parmesan -artichoke puff pastry bites with mascarpone and caramelized garlic
This is my new favorite cookbook. I could live on appetizers but the best thing about this book is that most of these recipes can be used as more than first course. I've been making them a meal of their own. So far the favorite recipes are coconut shrimp served with sticky cucumber peanut sauce.
If you are looking for a great book for appetizers, tapas, or ideas for small portions this is your book. The book was colorful and easy to read. I also enjoyed that at the end of each chapter the author had simple suggestions that would take minutes to toss together. If you have a lot of time she also has fantasic pairings for a meal of appetizers. Cute book! Would highly recommend!
