They’re both professional hockey players, albeit for different teams. They’re both attending the same celebrity charity golf tournament. And they both have a hotel reservation under the name ‘J. Johnson’.
Or so they thought.
What happens when the hotel accidentally only holds one room instead of two? Can these two antagonistic, rival hockey players manage to share a hotel room without any sexy, forbidden, naughty hanky panky?
For Jaime Johnson and J.J. Johnson, the answer is… no.
A momentary lapse in judgment is all it can be. That’s all they can let it be. But what if underneath all the sniping and squabbling, there was… more?
Jaime Johnson and J.J. Johnson know how to handle being enemies. Can they handle falling in love?
Two J. Johnsons playing on rivaling teams and being particularly annoying to each other when facing off on the ice fall in love with each other over the course of one off-season summer.
“Awww, babe. You make me feel all gross and squishy, too,”
And while I loved the sweet romance this book had waaay too many words. All this skimming was exhausting.
************* Stick Handling Series
Book 1 - Johnson x2 - 3.5 stars Book 1.5 - Baby Blue
I found this story entertaining and fun in a light-hearted way. J.J. and Jaime have great chemistry and I enjoyed how they were instantly attracted to one another once they were finally stuck alone in a room together.
Although these two were fun to read, at times I felt that the character depth and arcs were a bit lacking, but seeing these two together was a fun and enjoyable time.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.***
- hockey - rivals to lovers - opposites attract - one bed trope - forced proximity
JJ Johnson and Jaime Johnson are both professional hockey players, and there ends everything they have in common. The pair are rivals, complete opposites in every way possible, and constantly fight on and off the ice.
When a mix up at the hotel they are supposed to be staying at for a charity golf tournament has only one of them listed has having a reservation, JJ and Jaime find themselves sharing a room for the weekend.
One argument turns into a kiss which turns into a total free-for-all, with the pair banging each others brains out every chance they get. It was only supposed to be for the weekend, but soon they find themselves missing each other and despite their constant animosity they kind of like each other too?
JJ and Jaime are an absolute mess, and I loved every minute of their story. I enjoyed getting a deeper dive into their personal lives and seeing why they were the way they were, especially JJ. & that their on ice dynamic never changed despite them dating, and I loved the support they got from both of their teams as well!
This was my first book by this author and I had a good time reading about our two Johnsons! While I liked the overall story and am always a sucker for hockey stories, I would have wished for a bit more depth to the characters and their personal journeys throughout the book, not just as a "setting up the respective love interest for each other" - nevertheless, pick this up if you're in the mood for: - fun and light-hearted plot - hockey romance - rivals to lovers - opposites attract - there's only one bed.

I finally picked up this book just to get it off my to-read list, and I DNFed 11 pages in.
“And it sure as hell didn’t stop me from jerking myself off a time or two while watching those video clips. What can I say? I did like me a little freckle-sprinkled ginger and cream, every now and then, and Jaime Johnson was the epitome of milky-white skin smattered with a heavy layer of freckles, topped off with a head of slightly wavy gingery-red hair. Plus the thought of dirtying up that too-pure-for-profanity mouth by shoving my cock into it… Hmm hmm hmm. Gets me shooting off every single time.”
I don’t know who finds this sexy or every appropriate. Jacking off to innocent videos of an unsuspecting person, especially one who you actually know in person, without their consent? Talking about shoving your cock in someone’s mouth who literally has shown zero interest? It’s vulgar, perverted, and creepy. The whole situation is absolutely disgusting, especially given that these thoughts are coupled with JJ making vulgar gestures and statements that make Jaime uncomfortable. If your thoughts would be considered sexual harassment if voiced out loud, there’s a problem.

Any book that has hockey and rivals is a superior book in my eyes, and this one had everything! The chemistry was off the charts hot and I just needed them to get together so badly. From the spicy scenes to the banter between them, they connect in every way, despite their rivalry and it was divine! The plot had me hooked from the start and left me constantly wondering what would happen next. The story flowed nicely and the characters were well developed, resulting in a rich story that left me hungry for more from the author!
MM romance, hockey, rivals/enemy to loves, forced proximity....all things I will never pass up! This book was all of that.
This also has opposites attract going for it. You have the quieter, closeted, good boy and the cocky, loud boy (also sort of closeted). The dynamic was cute, sort of like where one pushes the other's buttons because he likes him. I enjoy that, personally. They are forced to room together one weekend and hook up. From there they start doing it regularly with the understanding that it's meant to be nothing serious. Obviously, that doesn't go as planned and they have to overcome several obstacles.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. I did feel like some of their relationship felt surface level and based solely on the steam and then the end felt sort of rushed. It felt a bit like things were "fixed" and tied up pretty too easily. I will definitely continue reading from this author and I'm excited to see what's next for this series.
I needed something more i felt like their chemistry was forced in alot, i liked them alot separately but together idk i think i needed more angst or something before the insta love.
Ill still give it a 3.5 - 3.75 because it wasnt bad it just didnt meet the 4 for me
This was just okay for me. I think the idea of them being rivals was built up a lot but then when a booking mistake comes up and JJ is left without a place to sleep, Jamie offers for them to share a room and pretty quickly they’re making out. It just didn’t work for me, I never felt the tension between them and while I enjoyed parts of the book there just wasn’t enough there to rate it higher.
I received an advanced copy for review - all opinions are my own.
Tropes: rivals to lovers, hate sex, forced proximity, only one bed Feels: 4/5 Steam*: 5/5 Kinks: none Angst: low HEA: yes Pairing: MM Triggers/potential icks/content themes: bad parents, homophobia
Jaime Johnson is 24ish, redhead, innocent ish hockey player. A nice guy, doesn't curse because his adoptive mama drilled that into him. He's gay, closeted, only hooks up in the offseason.
JJ Johnson is 27ish. He's loud, comes off cocky and assholesque as a deliberate strategic choice. He's gay, not out, but out to a few close contacts. His parents are extremely strange people, they are very self centered and probably shouldn't have been parents. They've always ignored their son. JJ is on a rival team and he loves to needle Jaime and fight with him on the ice. He also has a secret crush on him.
At a charity golf event at the start of the off season, they share a room due to a booking misunderstanding. Emotions run high and they end up hooking up. They keep on hooking up all weekend. Then they go home but JJ can't move on. He decides to show up at Jaime's house in another state and offer to continue their no strings sex fling. Suffice to say it goes really well for them and they can't bring themselves to separate so it goes on and on. Feelings develop. And then they're faced with returning to work in separate states. Can they do long distance? Can they make this work? Do they need to come out?
I really loved the first 75% of this book. The rivals to lovers was fantastic the steam between them was so good. The characters were really likable, their personalities well built. The small moments of reluctant attraction, hesitation, preoccupation with the other was great. There were tons of moments of humor sprinkled throughout this. Greg had some awesome lines. I loved how the refs gave them a hard time for fighting with each other.
Random thought: I really need to see a MM romance between a hockey player and the ref that he drives insane. I really hope Saxon James and Eden Finley write a ref Puckboys story at some point, it would be awesome.
Two things I didn't love. A tiny minor thing was the coin flipping for who tops and bottoms... It was just a little much, a wee bit toxic even if they didn't mean it to be. The other thing I didn't like, which affected the rating I gave it (3.5 stars), was how things went once they decided to come out. There were still some good moments after that but how instant that decision was just kind of cut the tension and angst and made it too easy. It's like they skipped important steps of building their relationship and went straight from really good hookups to commitment. I know they were living together for weeks and weeks and getting along really well, but they weren't talking about anything of significance and then all of a sudden it's full on relationship? Needed to put in a bit more work!
I know Carsen and Griff are already outed as a couple. But I would love to read that story.
Some notable moments:
"“That hot red-headed guy on the Loons that you totally have the num-nums for?” “I do not have the fucking num-nums for Jaime Johnson,” I insisted. I gave the hotel lobby another sweeping glance just in case. No one needed to be listening in on this ridiculous conversation. “Oh. You so do,” Greg insisted right back. “You know if he ever gave you the chance, you would happily slather that man in syrup and gobble him right on up.”"
""You do realize you just called yourself dumb, right?” “For having sex with you? Yes. Pretty sure that qualifies me as dumb. I already knew that.” “Ah. But are you dumb enough to do it again?” Please let him say yes. Please let him say yes. “Uggghhh,” Jaime groaned, dropping his head into his hands. “I can’t believe I’m going to say it but… yeah. Okay.”"
Press conference turns into a shit show out of control yelling fest, wild. But this guy... "And Timo Sneetsen, who played center on the Loons first offensive line with me, was sitting in a corner of the room… serenely reading a book? What the… I didn’t even have the words."
*FYI, I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink."

I absolutely loved this! I mean it's a steamy hockey romance with Rivals to Lovers trope so I was pretty sure it was gunna be a win for me to begin with, but I honestly just loved it. J.J. was one of those MCs who you want to hate, but you can't. He's cocky and full of himself. He offers absolutely zero apologies for his behavior because he point blank isn't sorry. That's just how he is. But he's also sweet in his own way. Giving is his love language and even though some of the things he decides would make the perfect gifts are downright outrageous or completely off the mark, it comes from a place of love.
Jaime is definitely his opposite in personality. He's more subdued. Doesn't like to swear. He likes this things orderly and by the book. He makes a plan for things instead of flying by the seat of his pants like J.J. seems to favor. These two absolutely should not work on paper, but somehow they just do. Especially in the bedroom. I mean holy hell these two set the sheets on fire and it seems it's also the one place besides the ice where Jaime sheds his subdued personality and evenly meets J.J. on his playing field.
"I hope you got some sleep on the plane. It's going to be a long night."
I also enjoyed the little bits we see of the other hockey players. There are some big secrets that come out near the end and have me wondering which couple is going to be next. I can't wait to find out who it's going to be!
Big hunky hockey players that hate each other, give me that ALL DAY LONG. All day y’all. Then add in forced proximity and my pants just melt right off. This book was the hockey wet dream. Just think 6’2”, beautiful sculpted bods, no leg day skipped and they decide to do the horizontal tango; 🥜 in my 👖! The way I cheered for these two to MAKE IT OFFICIAL was concerning. My family asked “Why are you so worked up? It’s just a book…” to which I promptly removed the negativity from my life. It’s just me now. I guess I like it that way since they clearly don’t accept my priorities. This book had SPICE, it had family DRAMA, it had hockey FIGHTS, it had FANS. Again it was EVERYTHING. The description of Jaime by JJ in this book just did it for me. SOOTHED my soul, numbed my throat and shoved that big daddy d*ck down my thr… whoopsie.😊. Real talk, there was no Daddy, but what I call Jaime in the privacy of my own head {and this review I guess b!tch} is mine. The creamy skin, with cinnamon specks, cherry topped hair. I legit just see an ice cream cone with hot tree trunk thighs on skates and IT IS HITTIN the deep spot. He was absolutely the sugar to this S&S duo. Then flies in the egotistical CUBE. He has fought to be seen and knows his worth. He is absolutely in your face funny. Also a bit of a d*ck, but we all KNOW we like a good d*cking down so don’t start with me! He is smooooooth like butter. And he can take that butter and rub it aaaaaaaaaaaall over my a$$ then shove that motherf*ck… hmm again I find myself divulging too much. He is the spice to this S&S duo. He is one of a kind. He does what he wants. Says what he wants. And takes care of EXACTLY what he wants. The sweetest part of the book? The fight. Lawd have mercy they get into on the ice. My wig dropped y’all. I had to get naked. I could not take it. I ain’t telling ya sh*t about it… you have to skate on in and find out for yourself. Not my junk! The book; skate into the book. Now go b!tches I have some hockey p*rn to lookup… for science of course 😜
A hockey romance that has barely any hockey in it as the romance happens during the off season. That was a little disappointing and there wasn’t really anything else going on. JJ was crude at the beginning, but I warmed up to him and by the end he was actually quite funny. I found him to be the more entertaining character. Jaime was cute but, as JJ often pointed out, a little boring.
There were some spelling mistakes there which always seemed to stand right out for me.
Overall, I did enjoy it. It was fun at times and there was a lot of waffling on, but in a good way I guess. Would have preferred more hockey references, but it was ok.
Utter nonsense, but in a good way? Honestly I read it at the wrong time, this was too much of a low angst palate cleanser, which has its place, but not when I'd just finish more low angst books lmao, but there wasn't enough left here to latch onto. Also, for my own edification, can you legally call this a hockey romance if like the entire book happens in the off-season?
THAT PRESS CONFERENCE CHANGED MY LIFE THOUGH, I NEEDED ANDY COHEN TO MODERATE THE BITCH
No. Guys don't talk and behave like this, especially not professional hockey players. I'll add a quote below:
Jaime went back to nibbling on his bottom lip as he thought. With a baffled tone of voice he admitted, "When I think about us not being together in the future ... I feel all ... empty." He fluttered his hand in front of his abdomen. "Inside. Empty and sad and ... lonely. But when I think about being with you ... planning for and stealing away moments where we can be together ... I feel ... warm and happy and ... squishy. It's gross."
Here's another weirdly girly quote:
However, I had the sense that when - if - J.J. and I ended our relationship, I would be devastated. Cry-my-eyes-out-and-gorge-on-Haagen-Dazs-and-sappy-movies level of devastation.
It also feels a bit reminiscent of Eden Finley and Saxon James' hockey books, what with TJ and the 'Puck Bucks' ... *eye roll* ... someone seems to have been heavily inspired ...
I absolutely loved this book! I hope the author continues this series as there are several other players I would love to read their stories. Shae Michaels is an extremely talented author whom I have loved everything they have written. I was first exposed to their writing with the Pine Ridge series and let me tell you they were phenomenal. I have purchased and read, as well as re-read, everything available on Amazon. It doesn't matter how many times I have read one of their books, I enjoy it over and over again as much if not more than the first time. Please keep writing and I will absolutely keep reading! Thank you for many happy hours of enjoyable binge reading.
On to a pet peeve that hopefully Amazon will read and fix accordingly... I LOVE this author. I find it extremely aggravating that every time I put Shae Michaels in the search bar and hit enter that Amazon changes my search to some WWE wrestler. I'm sure they are perfectly lovely and many people like this WWE person but let's face it, that doesn't help people find or purchase books by Shae Michaels. It is truly aggravating because even as I write this review every time I type Shae it tries to change it to something else. I am very frustrated on BEHALF of the author because I love their books, want them to succeed and can only imagine how much website traffic and sales are being lost because of this. For example I already own all if the Pine Ridge series so most of the time I have to enter Shae Michaels Pine Ridge to find books by this author. Then I need to click on the authors name to get to the author page that lists all of their books. This is annoying and more difficult than necessary but I can do it because I KNOW this author. I am constantly checking to see if there is something new coming out which of course I purchase as soon as possible. Now please imagine if you are looking for a new author and have never been exposed to this author (you'd never be able to find them) or trying to find something else by this author and running into all these roadblocks. It's aggravating So by all means Amazon, please get your SH*T together and give this fantastic author a true shot at success! Thank you..end of rant!
Johnson x 2 by Shae Michaels is the first book in the Stick Handling series. Some characters from the Pine Ridge series also appear in this book.
This is a captivating sports romance. The world of professional hockey collides with a celebrity charity golf tournament as two rival players, Jamie Johnson and JJ Johnson, find themselves unwittingly sharing a hotel room due to a booking mistake. With their antagonistic relationship and undeniable chemistry, this situation proves to be a recipe for combustible tension and unexpected passion.
Shae skilfully weaves together a tale of intense rivalry, simmering attraction, and the blurred lines between love and hate. The banter and sniping between Jaime and JJ create a delightful dynamic that keeps readers on their toes, eagerly anticipating what will happen next.
Despite their initial resistance, the vulnerability and underlying connections between the characters begin to shine through, adding depth and emotional resonance to the story. Their journey from enemies to lovers is expertly crafted, drawing readers into a rollercoaster of emotions.
With a perfect blend of steamy moments and heartfelt revelations, this book explores the challenges of navigating a forbidden romance amidst the demands of professional sports. I was captivated by the electrifying chemistry and undeniable charm of Jaime and JJ as they discover whether they can truly handle falling in love while facing the consequences of their actions.
I loved the press conference, mostly when Carsen stood up to defend his friends and put the reporter in his place. It was a WOW moment. It’s also been nice to see a glimpse of Sawyer and TJ.
I enjoyed this book and I recommend it. Can't wait for Carsen and Griff’s book.
I received an ARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
J.J. Johnson and Jaime Johnson are hockey players on rival teams, and they could not be any more opposite if they tried.😄 Where J.J. is an arrogant, foul-mouthed bad boy, Jaime is the poster boy for professional and polite. While we do see a glimpse of their on-ice rivalry, they're by not personal enemies, and things get pretty steamy between them pretty quickly! The two find themselves in a conundrum when a hotel they're both booked in manages to screw up their reservation, and there's only ONE room booked under the name J. Johnson. And y'all...I LOVE a good one-bed trope.😈
J.J. is constantly ragging on Jaime about being a boring stick-in-the-mud, but he still REALLY wants Jaime's attention, which is completely adorable. And Jaime turns out to be a little less boring than J.J. first thought.🔥 Neither of these guys is what they seem at first. They're both hilarious in their own ways, and I found myself laughing out loud at their banter quite often. The spice isn't as frequent, but what we get is HOT. This was such a fun, angst-free read, and I'm excited for the rest of this series! In the meantime, I'll definitely be going back to check out some of Shae's other works!🩷

JOHNSON X2 releases June 26!
*I received a free copy of this book via Indie Author Creative and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Off the bat, I am 100 percent a JJ Johnson character fan. Very rarely for me does a character grab my attention within the first few pages. He's a show stealer for sure. He's unapologetic, brash and unnervingly confident. With a side of lovable obnoxiousness. This is the first book in the spin off series focusing on the hockey players introduced in the last book of the Pine Ridge series. We saw brief glimpses of the characters and their antics in Sawyer and TJ's book and I cannot wait for the rest of this series if this first book is any indication of what's to come.
JJ Johnson is a force of nature and you can't help falling for him and completely understand how Jamie does. Before you know it, he's set up shop and bought a blue couch in your heart. He's such a contrast to Jamie Johnson who was content in a way in his beige couch life. It's almost a how did this happen/wouldn't have it any other way scenario for Jamie as the book continues and he learns more and more about JJ. I enjoyed their banter back and forth throughout the book. The secondary characters in the book were also pretty fun to read and can't wait to see which characters are features in future books. I am definitely hoping for one pair of MCs in particular!!
This was such a fun, light-hearted, low angst read and a great start for the new series!.
I received a free copy of this book via Indie Author Creative and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have read all of Shae's books to date, so when she announced this book I jumped at the chance to read this a bit early. I'm not a huge sports person but I've really enjoyed reading certain sports romances lately, and I'm always trying new tropes/themes. So I was excited to give this a read.
J.J and Jaimie both unfortunately have the same last name which causes a lot of arguments and sparring on the ice. But when both men have to share a hotel room together their animosity towards one another develops into something else.
These two men burned hot! There was great world building along with having great side characters that fit into the story. I loved Greg and Crystal's character, they are J.J's family, and they're the ones who have his back always. I also enjoyed 'seeing' other Loons players, it was cool to see them appear in this book. I'm looking forward to whose story is going to be coming next. The reason I didn't rate this a 5 star rating is cause they spent... ALOT of their time in bed... Which I sort of understand since this book is an enemies to lovers, and then an enemies with benefits but I was not prepared for all the steamy scenes.
Overall a good unexpected story! I'm eager to read more! *I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.*
An absolute delight! This was the best book I'd read all month. Funny, sexy, written with a deft hand about two guys, JJ Johnson and Jaime Johnson, who play professional hockey on opposing teams. They hate each other and push each other's buttons every time they meet. Along with the hate, there's a dose of lust that just simmers like a pot about to boil over. And boy, does it boil over! JJ and Jaime are scheduled to participate in a charity golf tournament in Nevada. They travel to the tournament and wouldn't you know it, there's only one hotel room left because of a snafu because they have the same last name. I am amazed that they didn't float out of the room on the amount of jizz these guys spilled. Lol!! The writing is elevated by the author's sense of humor - "".. he struck me as the type of Dudley Do-right, moral goody-goody that would rather gnaw off an arm than betray a secret." I howled. Not many people know who Dudley Do-right is! "This. This right here. The commanding, confident, bossy motherfucker underneath his staid, upright exterior..." Oh I loved this. Jaime and JJ are very lovable characters with clearly distinct personalities. Like many lovers of MM romance, I bought some of this author's books but never read them. But moving them right up the tbr!! Yayy! a new author.
Hockey MM Romance is my favourite genre in books & this book had the Rivals to Lovers trope which I loved & enjoyed so much. This book was an absolute delight to read with J.J & Jaime being so opposite in personalities & how much they liked to rile each other up was so exciting to read.
J.J. had a bigger-than-life personality, he is cocky, full of himself & swears too much while Jaime is the complete opposite he doesn't swear much & like to have things in order & plays by the book. One misunderstanding with the hotel about J.J.'s reservation brings him & Jaime to share a room for the weekend.
I liked how J.J. didn't think about his actions towards Jaime he just did what felt right & they didn't even realise how domestic they had become eventually. I liked their time in J.J.'s hometown, it was so sad to see what he had gone through in his childhood & why was he the way he is. I loved how Jaime got to see the new side of J.J. & his feelings for him.
I liked how their fights on the ice never changed even though they were dating & I also loved how supportive their teammates were of their relationship. This was amazing to read & I can't wait to read about other players.
Oh goodness, these two are chaotic and it's a blast. Jaime Johnson and JJ Johnson are closeted pro hockey players and bitter rivals. They're on rival teams and are complete opposites. JJ is arrogant, cocky and a bit of a ball buster, while Jaime is sweet, shy and avoids cursing as much as he can. The two of them are taking part in a celebrity golf tournament when an error in booking leads to only one room being saved for J. Johnson. Luckily for JJ, Jaime is super sweet and offers for him to stay in his room.
Their bickering turns into a weekend fling of hate sex, but it turns out neither of them are ready to forget about their time together. I don't want to spoil anything else, because everyone should get to experience firsthand the depths of JJ's impulsiveness.
🔥: So much spice! These two get really steamy and kinky and we get all the graphic details. Scenes are medium paced and sometimes include JJ continuing to drive Jaime crazy. 😆: Lots of laughs here! JJ is ridiculous, but I still love him. 😭: No tears!
This was such a fun read and I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve over the course of the book. I can't wait to see what comes next!
Put this book down maybe 20 pages in. There was just absolutely no chemistry to draw me into the book. They didn't even act like they hated each other... they acted more like fighting siblings under the age of 10.. like, in the first two pages there was a whole "do not" "do too" conversation. this was the dialog sequence of that scene.
"I don't high stick." -Jamie "Do too" - JJ "Do not" "Do too"
like, be so fr
And don't even get me started on how cringe Jamie's whole "I can't swear 🥺🥺" attitude was. Because how are you, A FULLY GROWN ADULT, calling people buttheads and stuttering over swearing like a middle school kid? I totally get if he just doesn't really swear bc of how he was raided, or whatever. But what got me was the fact that he tried to swear, but clearly was torn up about it. idk how to explain, let me just give this quote.
This is literally what Jamie said, verbatim "You... you...frick-fu-fu-fucking a-asshole" I cannot make this shit up. Like, I'm sorry, how old are you supposed to be again??
Then they also just a a pretty civilized conversation about the whole room mess up situation. Which was fine, ig, but for some reason I thought they were sworn rivals of opposing teams, who hated each other. Weird..
First in series (Stick Handling). Rivals to lovers. Close proximity. Opposites attract. Dual POV. Professional hockey player Jaime can’t stand JJ Johnson, he’s annoying, arrogant and a big jerkhead anytime they play each other on the ice. Honestly, JJ can’t help riling Jaime up, perhaps he has a small crush on the straitlaced hottie, and getting Jaime to cuss and get flustered is a favorite pastime. When a hotel mix up has them sharing a room, JJ makes an offer Jaime can’t refuse, and they burn up the sheets with their chemistry. JJ is truly carefree and confident, he is brave and does not apologize for his over the top behavior, and even though Jaime is his opposite in almost every way, Jaime can see the goodness and caring in JJ’s nature, and it pushes him to be more daring as well. As they spend time together (when JJ basically invites himself to stay with Jaime), they find a lot in common even beyond hockey and an unexpected intimate relationship where they can’t imagine being without each other. Plenty of steamy times between two sweet guys that make falling in love fun and easy. 4.5 rounded up
4.5 stars of hot hockey rivals discovering that they're not as much enemies as soulmates. JJ Johnson and Jaime Johnson don't get along. They are rivals on the ice, rivals in the general vicinity of one another and rivals in not being out of the closet to anyone but their team and close friends.
When a hotel booking for a charity golf tournament goes wrong, Shae delivers a hilarious Only-One-Bed story that the 2 Johnsons insist is the end of their hooking up... only to find JJ missing Jaime so much that he shows up at his door and wants to... handle one another's sticks until it's out of their systems. JJ practically moves in, adds some colour to Jaime's life, they take a visit to JJ's hometown together and realize that they aren't really rivals, but that snarking at one another is their love language.
Tropes: - Rivals to lovers - Opposites attract - Forced proximity - Hockey
(EN) I love rivals to still rivals but lovers!!!! We also find two absolutely opposite characters who by mistake end up sharing a room and the chemistry explodes! J.J. and Jaime are really lovable and the latter's patience is almost eternal. He is the kindest character!Although little by little we are also discovering that JJ also has a heart of gold. A super light reading that is very enjoyable.
(SP) Como disfruto de los rivals to still rivals but lovers!!!!
The way their unofficial “relationship” started was very abrupt and kinda confusing as there was literally nothing that was said in the moment that should’ve like “lit a spark” or whatever between them, before they were on each other. But after that it was sort of smooth-sailing and felt like the relationship progressed naturally. Considering the book was about hockey players, there wasn’t much happening “on ice”, and it felt like it could’ve been any other sport they played and it wouldn’t have made a difference (they just had to be on rival teams). Content warnings felt kinda pointless as the book had very little (almost none at all) focus on those topics and by having a warning I thought there would be more focus on them or they were somehow relevant to the story, but they actually weren’t. Overall it was a good read, J.J. made everything fun, his parents kinda freaked me out and Jamie was mostly a sweetheart.
