The Hubbub Above

Rate this book
Sydney lives in a tall, tall building, way, way up on the fifty-second floor. She loves it there. She loves riding the elevator, she loves the view from the balcony, but most of all, she loves the quiet. Then the Kabooms move in upstairs, and everything changes. They walk loud, they talk loud, and worst of all, every Saturday night, they cha-cha-cha very, very loud.

When the noise at last becomes too much to bear, Sydney decides it's time to pay the Kabooms a visit. But when they answer the door, she's in for a HUGE surprise. . . .

A little girl who lives in the big city, is fed up of the noisy neighbours in the flat above. She gets a surprise when she goes to see them and it all turns out well in the end. This was a very quick book to read with some nice surprises in and a fun ending.

A book about loud upstairs neighbors! When the main character Sydney gets fed up and goes upstairs to talk to them, she finds out they are elephants and that's why they're so loud! They are hosting a party and invite her in and they become friends. I could use this book in my class I want to talk about making sure it's important to have the full story. The classic don't judge a book by its cover. This would also just be a fun read aloud.

Right from the front cover, you get a clue that this picture book will be funny.

That humor can be especially relatable if you've ever had a noisy neighbor. Oboy!

When you finally meet Mr. Kaboom you learn that he "looked a bit, well... tusky." Love that language. And even better is the ending!

I found this book helpful in describing apartment buildings to children. The ending was a tad silly but a decent book!

We read this 12 years ago to our first-born, and I still think about it. Very fun read and great illustrations.

This is an entertaining story about a little girl who enjoys her piece and quiet up on the fifty-second floor...that is, until noisy neighbors move upstairs.

The narrative is fun to read aloud and the illustrations are cartoonish and colorful. We loved the onomatopoeia and the anthropomorphication of the upstairs neighbors.

The way that the little girl resolved her problem sets a good example and the ending is humorous. We enjoyed reading this book together.

Very cute story, about noisy upstairs neighbors. When the little girl goes to investigate, what does she find, elephants having a party. They try to be as quiet as possible, but how's an elephant to do that.
