Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie. Together they’re doing a pretty good job of shrugging off the slings and arrows cast their way by the popular crowd when a new boy, Lucas, moves into the house next door. Suddenly Braedyn finds herself falling in love for the first time.

But as her sixteenth birthday approaches, Braedyn discovers humankind is at war with the Lilitu, an ancient race of enticing demons that prey on human souls. Her father is a member of the Guard fighting against the Lilitu - and so are the new neighbors, including her crush, Lucas.

As her world starts to unravel at the seams, Braedyn learns the right answers aren’t always clear or easy. And as for “good” and “evil” – it all depends on how we choose to act.

Inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring, Thrall explores first love, strong friendships, and taking on adult responsibilities against the backdrop of powerful supernatural forces and life-and-death stakes.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting and the storyline was fascinating. I always like sci-fi stories. You never know what is out there and the Lilith could be a society that live where we can't see them. This world is so advanced you never know. I really liked Braetyn and Lucas. I look forward to see what happens next the lives of this group of fighters.

Fist thing I loved about the story is the Uniqeness. Not all books choose a heroine that
was actually a Demon of origin. Lilith to start with is a mythological mother of Demon.
I was really unfamiliar with Lilith thing so I made a few research (which I always do, For me to understand more of the paranormal books I commonly read. Hehehhehe.) Here is a short research article I read hope it will be useful for you as well:

Lilith, Mother of Demons, appears throughout mythology and religions across the globe. Although called by different names, she has existed in some form since, by some accounts, as early as 3000 BC.

She is a female demon of the night who supposedly flies around searching for newborn children either to kidnap or strangle them. She also sleeps with men to seduce them into propagating demon sons. Legends told about Lilith are ancient. The rabbinical myths of Lilith being Adam's first wife seem to relate to the Sumero-Babylonian Goddess Belit-ili, or Belili. She was also known,to the Canaanites, as Baalat, the "Divine Lady." On a tablet from Ur, ca. 2000 BCE, she was addressed as Lillake.

One such story is that God created Adam and Lilith as twins joined together at the back. She demanded equality with Adam. Failing to achieve it, she left him in anger. This is sometimes accompanied by a Muslim legend that after leaving Adam, Lilith slept with Satan, thus creating the demonic Djinn. In another version of the myth of Lilith, she was Adam's first wife before Eve.

So Far, this is the first book that has a theme of a Lilithu daughters as a the main character of the story. I've read a lot of paranormal books, and so far it is really quite good. The book has a mixture of story about friendship, responsibility, faith and love, but the most important thing is the faith in one's own strength and sense of rightness.

The main character was interesting and well created. I instantly liked her; she was filled with a normal human girl's emotion. Love of friends, love for her father, and for Lucas. She has endured her hearts desire to be human and chosed to sustain her Lilith form to help the GUARDS in stopping the other Lilitus evil plan.

A Fathers love, this is the best highlight of the book. Murphy, , inspite of not being the biological father, is an epitome of a fathers unconditional love to his daughter. Inspite of what others think of his raised Lilitu daughter, he never loosed faith that he was able to raise Braedyn with love and goodness. It really left me teary eyed everytime his father's love was being shown in this book. :)

My Judgement:
I can' t say anything negative about this book because it was so good. All in all the book was wonderful. It's really impressive how the it's a self-published book. I enjoyed reading it so much even I went back to reread a few scenes. I would definitely wait for the next sequel of this. :)

I absolutely loved this - a great YA novel that is well written and characters are credible. There is plenty of high school in there, with the ordinary girl that suddenly discovers she's not ordinary at all (what a surprise!). There is always the nasty popular crew - who qualify well for that role, and the sexy love interest. The supporting characters are well defined with believable situations and realistic relationships.
I'm going straight on to book 2!

The succubus fangirl in me is going happy-go-lucky. A coming of age story for a succubus, one of my favorite supernatural creatures of all time? Yes please! And amazingly enough this book does not disappoint. I meant to savour it, to draw out the pages and enjoy for as long as I could. Instead I tore through it in two sittings without being able to put it down.

Every once in a while I really want to buy the books that are self-published, first time novels, yet to reach the shelves in your local bookstore. I like the idea of supporting aspiring authors in their way to writers heaven. But sadly sometimes those shiny new books are rushed to the printing press before they are ready. This is not one of those books. Ignore the blurb, it makes it sound so much more teen-y than it is.

I would like to draw your attention to the cover. It is a good cover but there are others like it. I thought it was nice enough when I bought the book but it should not be that special. But when you hit the exact scene in the book from which the cover is, it blows you away. Suddenly the girl looks magical, having that Cinderella effect and everything.

For a first time author, Jennifer Quintenz, I salute you. I truly hope that you are going places (hopefully places where one writes many many books). The writing style is so smooth, yet gripping. Add some good characters, well-paced story and you have something that I like. No, not like. Love.

As I mentioned before I loves succubus stories. In this case named after Lilith and called Lilitu. And there really has not been a story which gives us first-hand insight into what it feels like to become one of the seductive demonesses. This story was paced perfectly, being very exciting and yet easing you into it when needed. I do not want to spoil because everyone deserves the awe of this book. I will drop the ditbit that I think it is wonderful that the part of mythology where succubi visit men in their dreams is not left out. And that they are, in fact, demons.

Braedyn is a sweet girl, easy to identify with. But as she progresses and grows into being a Lilitu while still being part of the Guard is amazing. She is not written as too perfect, she makes mistakes, stumbles and that's what makes her loveable. Plus while she is the "loner", she is not a whiny character, which is not easy to write. Lucas is the male interest in this book, he has solid reason for doing what he does and he stays true to why he became part of the Guard. It’s what makes him a good character. Definitely not your typical, shallowly written lover boy. But my favorites are Braedyns father and Thane. It is so lovely to have such deep side characters. Their stories were just as compelling as Breadyns.

As you can tell I am over the moon with this book and will be ordering the second book as soon as I have money for it. (which has to be after Christmas. Really, who thought gift-giving was more fun than receiving them. But sadly so much more expensive). So no surprise that “Thrall” gets full five stars and the highest recommendations I can give.

Before you even start, this review. Put down anything you are doing and go read Thrall. It's AMAZING!
BREATHTAKING! It's makes you want to fall to your knees and beg for more. Yes, I want more. And I want it now.

Now, what hooked me into this book is that the plot is holy freaking intense! I mean, right from the start, I am enthralled till the end. Each chapter the reader faces more action, more secrets and much more hottness! At some points, I couldn't take it anymore. I was fighting against myself to hurry up and finish the book cause I was dying to know how it was going to end. And I figthing myself cause I didn't want to finish it. Cause I knew the minute I be done, it wouldn't be enough.

The characters also add some awesome elements to the story. Along with the plot, we have characters that are kept out of the loop. I LOVE this! Characters that hold secrets about themselves from others, specifically when it can jeopardize a relationship makes my heart race.

The love interest as you can tell is one that I want to bloom but faces many trials. This relationship I know can be strong as long as they are strong together. Their love is fierce in the beginning, but UGH, it does make my heart break some. Believe me when I say that you will be so invested in these characters, you feel every waking emotion.

Thrall is a fab beginning to an ultimate legacy! With a thrilling beginning, I can't imagine what the second book will be like. It raises you up yet brings you down. It's makes your heart pound yet stop at the igniting love it sparks. Thrall accelerates further into the heart of things, bringing the reader with it. Engaging and smart, Thrall leaves you speechless!

EnTHRALLing!!! ^_^
Amazing read! Great Book!
Page turner extraordinaire!

+First of all i am not into this kind of genre when it comes to books.
Oh well, i was wrong to judged a book like this!

+It was AWESOME! It was engrossing fast read and a page turner!
I just can't stop reading! Full of action and exciting! I could NOT put this book down! BREATHTAKING! It's makes you want to fall to your knees and beg for more. Yes, I want more. And I want it now.

FEELS LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+"Thrall" is supernatural-romance-fantasy at its best and purest -- and it's really quite good. All of the tropes are represented here: the demure teenage girl, the handsome boy next door, the sassy best friends and the discovery of a great power on the inside. There's also plenty that you've probably not read before: the driving engine with its rich mythology and talons buried deep in Biblical tales, the wonderfully descriptive scenes laced with tongue-in-cheek humor and some really ingenious battles that take everything you think you know about angels and demons and tears it asunder. But at the center lies the greatest of wish-fulfillment: who doesn't want to go to sleep one night as just another face in the high school hallway and wake up to discover she's an ass-kicking demon hunter?

+This novel, the first of many I hope, is obviously written by someone who understands the desire to do and be greater, and it's written with exquisite care and passion. It's more than just the trans-formative experience of a teenage girl - it's a moral yarn delivered with one of the strongest pro-female messages I've seen in ages. Oh, and some pretty bad-ass demon wings.

+It also has a beautiful father/daughter relationship, so rarely seen in books today, and the story makes it clear that unconditional love and trust make someone a true parent regardless of their blood relationship.

+The mix between action and descriptions of Braedyn's struggle and feelings is perfectly balanced and I loved how I was always in her head. If you like fantasy of the Joss Whedon "Buffy" kind with a forbidden love angle and a whole new and exciting lore around succubae, demon hunters and angels, this is the book for you. Highly recommended!

+This is a story of friendship, first love and taking on adult responsibilities, but ultimately it is about empowerment and faith in one's own strength and sense of rightness.

+I loved this and can't wait for the next one! WHICH is i'm currently reading now! heehee..

Personally, I just couldn't get into the story. I had to force myself to finish this. The romance lacked chemistry, the succubus story-line seemed unique, but it all fizzled with an anticlimactic end. The action scenes were also kind of a bust, and I just really HATED how the Guards treated Braedyn. And, she was also too much of a goody-too-shoes, one-dimensional character for me to truly appreciate. I wanted her to join forces with the Lilitu. And, I really just did not like Braedyn's love interest, Lucas... But the story was well-written, and the plot concise.

Ultimately, for this book, it's mostly going to depend on personal preference. Objectively, the book does not have many flaws, and I think some readers may enjoy this. I, on the other hand, just could not get past the "sons of Adam" man-hate, and the whole good v. evil -- stigmatizing sex trope.

Thrall was a really boring read.

Braedyn was an okay character to start with, but she quickly became annoying.
She could be quite stupid at times too.

The little twist that happened quite early on, was really predictable.
It didn't shock me at all.

I lost interest in the story very early on, so it felt like a really long read.
I just wanted the book to end!

Overall, slow, annoying and predictable.

I was contacted by the author to read this. Normally, I'm somewhat leery when I get requests, just to make sure it's something I think I'd like. Well, when I saw it was something I would typically read AND it had a perfect 5.0 stars here, that pretty much sealed the deal.

Really, I'd probably classify this as a 4.5, but rounding up to 5 is just fine by me as well.

So...how 'bout them demons? I think the legend/myth of Lilith is actually quite fascinating, given that even though it's mentioned in the Bible, it's largely ignored. That alone is fascinating. Anyway, it's an interesting take on that, making these women Sirens in their own right. Checkmark for good plot and lore.

I don't want to say that I was a fan of Lucas early on. Braedyn, oh yes. There was something a few pages in that made me smile because it was witty and observant. That's a good sign in my books, when I smile at a something they say quickly. I was worried for a while she would be this mousy heroine, but she completely blossomed into a heroine I could take seriously and look for more of in the future. And yes, I did eventually come around to Lucas.

I saw reviews here that mentioned the book being a page-turner and the reader's inability to put the book down. By like, the last 20%, that's the truth. I'm glad it was in the middle of the afternoon when I reached that point so I could devote my time to finishing it. The action was really intense. I got pretty pulled into the story.

Oh yes, something I almost forgot. What's worse than an evil villain? An evil villain who doesn't see themselves as evil. This book was crawling with characters who were of questionable moral standings who truly believed they were doing something good when they weren't by most people's standards. And as fascinated by psychology as I am, I'm terribly drawn into this. It added a great complexity to the story that would have been lacking otherwise.

Lots of intrigue and suspicion in the story. And suspense, I suppose I should throw that in as well. It builds a universe with a multitude of characters that will bring you back for the sequel. So...that sequel's coming out soon, right?

First of all, I would like to thank Ms. Quintenz for the ebook copy. Now on to my review. *winks*

I have to admit that the blurb didn’t really catch my attention that much (especially the “falling in love for the first time” part. This book was assigned to me for review and although I was a bit skeptical about it, I still went on to read it. And now, I’m glad that I did.

Thrall takes us into a whole new world where beautiful creatures known as Liliths exist. I love how Ms. Quintenz used the idea and weaved her own, unique plot out of it. This is definitely something different from the usual “paranormal creatures” I’ve read in other paranormal novels. This is quite a refreshing novel with its smooth writing, good pacing (although the first parts were a bit of a drag for me), interesting storyline and great characters.

At first I thought Braedyn will be one of those “annoying heroines” but she turned out to be a likeable character as the story progresses. What I most especially love is the father-daughter relationship of Braedyn and her dad. I can really feel how much her dad loves and cares for her. Although Braedyn and Lucas’ relationship is sweet, it didn’t give me any “giddy” feelings at all, so… yeah.

Over all, Thrall was a great and enjoyable read and I recommend it to all paranormal/romance fans.

(Source: I own a copy of this book, and the author requested a review.)
16-year-old Braedyn is shocked when her father tells her that demons exist – very specific ‘succubus’ type demons called the Lilitu.
What is going on with the Lilitu? And what is Bredyn’s part in the battle against them?

This was an okay story, but it just wasn’t for me.

Braedyn was an okay character, but she did maybe allow herself to be led astray a little too easily at points. I could see why it would be difficult for her to adapt to her Lilitu powers though, so I suppose I can forgive her some of that.

The storyline in this was okay, but I found it a little unbelievable, and I quickly lost interest. I tried alternating chapters of this with chapters of another book to try and get through it, but even that didn’t help unfortunately, and I ended up feeling like I was forcing myself to keep reading. I don’t know why I lost interest, but I did, and even when we got some action scenes, I just couldn’t get into the book.
The ending was again action packed, but unfortunately I just couldn’t focus, and I couldn’t enjoy what was happening. I won’t be reading the next book in the series.
Overall; not for me,
4.5 out of 10.

I would like to thank the author, Jennifer Quinletz and The Cover Contessa, for the opportunity to read and review this book for free. The fact that I received it for free in no way influences this review.

Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie. I had just finished reading the Georgina Kincaid series (all about a succubus) when I was offered the chance to review this book. I was slightly worried that after reading five books about a succubus in under 32 hours, I might be biased against this book simply due to succubi overload. Thankfully that was not a problem in the least.

Ms. Quinletz has a lovely writing style, and an excellent ability to allow her characters to be larger than life, stepping right off the page, yet without making them into caricatures of themselves. She has a strong connection with the emotional highs and lows of life as a teenager. Add to that the problem of discovering everything you thought you knew about yourself was a lie, that the things that go bump in the night really do exist, a dash of mythology, and you've got one heck of a recipe for entertainment.

Braedyn is a lovely young woman with a small circle of friends. Most of her time at the prestigious prep school she attends is spent either with her two BFFs or avoiding the queen bee/bitch of the school. Braedyn is a loyal friend, very protective, and also reliable and levelheaded (as much as any teenager can be!). . . But she is also willing to risk her life in defense of strangers. Just the kind of person you want on your side when things go bad.

After years of being bullied you might expect someone who was just handed mind boggling power to use it to get some revenge. But that never even crosses Braedyn's mind - not until what happens to Cassie. Then she starts to fantasize, which someone immediately jumps on and starts egging her on - neglecting of course to mention the repercussions of getting justice for her friend.

Lucas is the new boy in town, and Braedyn's first serious crush. He is a tortured soul due to a trauma in his past, and that draws her to him like a moth to the flame. That same trauma is a huge part of what still drives him now. At the same time he is a regular teenage boy, with all the sweetness, prickliness, and confusion that are part of being a teenager.

I truly enjoy the relationships in this book. Ever since middle school Braedyn has been the target of the queen bee of their class, Amber. To this day she has no idea why Amber dislikes her so vehemently, all she knows is to try and blend in with the background as much as possible in order to limit the amount of abuse Amber and her circle like to heap on her. Before Lucas moves to town Cassie and Royal are Braedyn's only friends. Both are strong personalities in their own right, but unique enough that all three compliment one another. The interplay between the teenagers is so well crafted that just reading about the social cliques brings me back to my own middle & high school experiences, leaving me grateful that they are behind me.

Another beautifully crafted relationship is between Braedyn and her dad. Being just the two of them makes for a very strong, loving dynamic. Even when the rug is pulled out from under her feet, and her world as she knows it radically changes, Braedyn and her father still have a powerful familial love for each other. Of course that's not to say that Braedyn doesn't test her boundaries, or that the two don't clash from time to time - all part of the normal teen 'rebellion' of learning who they are/who they want to be. But the minor friction caused by the ever shifting lines of responsibility never changes their core-level love and respect for each other.

The blend of action, romance, and character development is smoothly done, all matching the arc of the story without ever slowing for too long to explain anything. Ms. Quinletz did such a beautiful job of showing us this story, rather than telling it to us, that I immediately went out and purchased Incubus (The Daughters of Lilith #2) the second installment, and am now eagerly awaiting the release of book three, Sacrifice (The Daughters of Lilith #3). If that isn't a solid endorsement I just don't know what is!

I was sent an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Shockingly I've had this for the best part of the year, I don't know how but it got lost in the list of review books I've got and forgotten about. Sorry about that. I like to be prompt with my reviews, I know it's not always possible but this was way too long.
Anyway, I came across it last Sunday evening and read the first 150 pages in one sitting before I had to put it down, I was really enjoying it and getting into the story. It's been a hectic week and tonight (Thurs) was the first time I got to pick it up again, but I sat and finished the rest of it.
Braedyn thinks she is an ordinary girl until her 16th Birthday, when she suddenly becomes more attractive and starts to discover hidden powers. Her dad confesses that she is actually a Lilitu, a demon that prays on humans - particularly men. She discovers a whole world surrounding her including the 'Guard' a group pf people who spend their lives hunting down and killing the Lilitu, but Braedyn is on the inside and may just be what the Guard needs to achieve a final victory, but not everyone trusts her. How long before her Demon side emerges and takes over?

Braedyn is quite a spunky character, she's quite opinionated but also tries to think about others and what they need first, she's been brought up to be kind and considerate, but her emotions and demon nature try to take over. I love that she tries to fight it, the love she has been raised with really gives her strength and compassion. I love the connection she has with her two best friends, and her father, she has a real strong unit around her which influences her a lot in the book. I also like the connection with the new guy Lucas. I like that they build up their relationship - it's not instant or anything, they become friends first. Part of that may be because they are forbidden to be together but it read nicely and you can't help but want them to be together.
Lucas is also actually a really nice guy, he's determined to do the right thing and has a great inner strength. He doesn't come across as particularly tough and he's not at all arrogant, he has more of a quiet strength. He can defend himself if needed but doesn't make a big thing of his skills.
Gretchen is one of the Guard members and has some serious attitude, she's an awesome fighter and very hard to please, she doesn't trust easily, but you see her grow throughout the book and discover more about her and I actually started to like her.
The plot is fast and exciting and the writing really builds up the world around you, carrying you on a journey. You get a good insight into Braedyn's life and the life of those around her. The Lilitu are threatening and creepy, enough to keep you on the edge of your seat wondering where they will show up again.
I'm looking forward to reading more from this series now, excited to see what Quintenz will bring us next.

I’ve read so many young adult paranormal romance books that I admit to feeling a little jaded by the genre, yet I was pleasantly surprised by this story. It started out in a similar way to many in the genre with the classic teen-discovers-previously-unknown-powers-and-secrets-about-their-birth scenario but the book soon proved itself to be an excellent and unpredictable story with more depth than most.

Blurb: Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie.

The Lilitu are succubi, seen as inherently evil by most of the Guard, but are they? Or are they simply another kind of being who should have their share of our world? The author drew on the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring for this book, not just for the characters, but also on a subtle level to question the view of independent women as ‘demonic’ that this mythology has embedded in the Western psyche. Lilith is the one who refused to be Adam’s wife, causing God to create a new, and suitably subservient, wife for Adam ie Eve. Lilith then became known as the mother of all demons.

Thrall had all the usual attributes of a good book, well rounded characters with clear motivations, realistic dialogue, good pacing, interesting plot etc etc, but what I really liked was that, unlike many young adult books, good and evil were not clear cut. There were good and bad on both sides, and sometimes good people did bad things for what seemed like good reasons. Life is like that. Through these events, Braedyn comes to question the assumptions of people around her, and learns that she must ultimately rely on her own judgement.

It also has a beautiful father/daughter relationship, so rarely seen in books today, and the story makes it clear that unconditional love and trust make someone a true parent regardless of their blood relationship.

This is a story of friendship, first love and taking on adult responsibilities, but ultimately it is about empowerment and faith in one’s own strength and sense of rightness. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it for anyone who likes young adult paranormal romance or urban fantasy. I’ll be adding it to the Awesome Indies list too. http://awesomeindies.wordpress.com

Now I have to say I loved this book. Normally the demon is the bad guy. And while this doesn’t change in this book the demon is still the bad guy, but there is a unique twist one demon is good.

I’ve always loved stories of Demons and add in the story of Lilith who I actually know the original story of was such a great aspect of this story. Lilith is a fabulous twist in this book, and while there are many stories about Lilith this one was totally unique. Because Lillith isn’t the main issue, nor is she really overly important in the book but she is always there like a dark shadow. Her offspring Lilitu are just awful.

The main characters were well written and believable. I totally love Braedyn and her friends and add in Lucas and it was the perfect mix. This story is a wonderful story about the love of family and friends. And how just because you are born one thing (a demon) doesn’t mean that you are one. Braedyn is a loving, caring friend and a fabulous daughter. This story also has a good moral lesson about loyalty to family and friends and commitment to being a responsible person. You’ll have to read it to understand what I am saying here but trust me you will understand by the end of book 1.

I have to say that the book has a very strong and fabulous father in it. He knows what Braedyn is, but regardless of her being a demon spawn, he loves her unconditionally. He never loses faith in her as his daughter and he raised her with love and commitment. He isn’t just a father, he is a daddy through and through.

I just cannot say enough about this book, but I don’t want to risk giving away too much. Suffice it to say that I finished this book, immediately started book 2 and stayed up until 2 in the morning reading these stories. As I finished book 2 I wanted to scream out in agony of having to wait for the next instalment in this fabulous new series from the very talented Jennifer Quintenz. I HIGHLY recommend this series to any YA/NA oh heck I recommend it to EVERYONE!!!! I even passed it on to my son who I hope will like it as much as I did.

The only problem I had, was now I have to wait for book 3… I am not known for my patience. But alas I will have to wait and grab it the day it comes out.

Details/Disclaimer: Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I started this book in the full knowledge that I am not the target reader - I am neither American or by any stretch of the imagination a young adult - but I found that none of that mattered. The writing drew me in, with really distinctive characters, all of them with their own convincing back stories, a plot that unwinds with twists and turns and keeps the pace, and a well conceived mythology.
The story starts gently, easing you into what seems like a typical teenage scenario with just a hint of something unusual. My fear at first was that this would turn out to be a re-run of Buffy; teen discovers nasty monsters exists and that she has been born with the powers to defeat them, though she doesn't know it yet.
So the first major reveal blew me out of the water - Braedyn actually IS one of the monsters. Once I passed this point I galloped on through the book, eager to see how the brewing cataclysm would be resolved, and what part our monster-raised-as-a-human with human emotions and ties, would play in it.
Rightly, the majority of the Guard (the human commandos who fight the daughters of Lilith, known as Lilitu) don't trust Bradeyn even though she's been raised by one of them, and for me, one of the high spots of this novel was the way that Braedyn's human father stuck by her and believed in her even when the situation made her look guilty.
I liked also, that Braedyn made mistakes - typical teenage mistakes that, because of what she is, have far greater consequences than she anticipates. The presence of a previous failed attempt to raise a Lilitu as Braedyn has been raised, Karayan is a minor character of note, particularly at the end where she makes a decision influenced by her human upbringing, but without coming all the way back from the 'dark side'.
Without going into too much detail about the plot, I would recommend this to anyone who loves a YA novel without being too juvenile, a fair dose of action, gritty characters (and gory deaths), emotional repercussions and a heroine who must struggle with what she is - a succubus - and find her own path. I will be interested to see how she manages her relationship with her boyfriend, Lucas, without turning him into a thrall, so I will be reading the next one just as soon as I have a space in my monstrous TBR list.

Ooh, I really liked this one, guys. I was immediately sucked into the world of Braedyn, the daughter of Lilith. It has all the typical elements of a paranormal romance book and the battle between good and evil. The storyline won't surprise you. Average girl suddenly takes on freaky new powers, finds out she isn't who she thought she was her whole life, meets a hot boy that is forbidden, sets out to save the world... See what I mean? Not a new storyline at all. BUT...

This is a solid, well told story. The characters are well developed and full of life. I could picture them in my head and I could feel them. The story was forward moving at all times. It engaged me as a reader and I wanted to keep reading. That is how I know I've got a good book in my hands. :)

Braedyn is your average girl in the beginning but when faced with the knowledge that her whole life has been something other than she believed it to be, she doesn't spend a lot of time wallowing. She trusts in the love she has always known and she figures things out. She is stronger than she thinks but that knowledge comes as she works hard. I liked that. I also liked that Braedyn made mistakes and learned from them. Braedyn has a good heart and she is loyal. She has to struggle against some natural Lilith tendancies and channel her powers to do good but she does it because she believes she can. She is a strong (not just physically) lead character and one I was fully behind as a reader.

I loved the supporting characters and I'm really looking forward to getting to know them even better in the next books. Thrall is the first book in this series. The next two books are already out and available to read so you don't have to wait! Sweet!

Thrall by Jennifer Quintenz is a zesty and very enjoyable YA paranormal novel. The opening seems a little conventional. We meet teenager Braedyn, bright and gutsy but a bit of a social misfit, against the usual background of American high school with the moody beauties and aloof good looking guys. However, suddenly a handsome new neighbour, Lucas, arrives on the scene and sticks up for her at school. Up to now there’d always been just Dad and Braedyn. He’s never talked much about her mother, whom Braedyn never knew, despite her thousands of questions. But suddenly circumstances change and Dad is forced to tell Braedyn the truth. This is where the author stops teasing us and shows what an original novel she’s created. Suddenly Braedyn learns that there are humans and hunters and guards and Lilitu, demons, in the world, and she’s very, very involved in all this. The crucial question for her now is can a demon ever turn out good? Can a demon ever become human? She has to find out.
This is very much a character-driven story with plenty of action and fast-paced, authentic dialogue. Braedyn, like her friends, and enemies, is a typical modern kid, a little more complicated than most, but ready and able to face up to massive challenges. She develops throughout the novel, as do all the other main figures. Dad, Murphy, moves from shadowy parent to a strong leader, and Lucas becomes way more than the boy next door. Events twist and turn and keep us all guessing in this well thought-out story. And the best news is that's it's only the start of a series ...

This novel was so good. I received it this morning and just finished it a bit ago. I absolutely loved it.

Let me start by saying poor Braedyn. Everything was going her way for once, and then rug is pulled completely out from under her... multiple times. You feel so bad for her! The life she has known is a lie. She is keeping a huge secret from the guy she loves. She has an inner war waging that could mean losing the world as well as herself. I love how strong of a character she is. Everything that happens to her, and she still manages to come out on the right side. Honestly, Braedyn's transformation from a girl who only wants to blend in to a woman who can't is amazing. I love that the physical transformation isn't drug out. So many books ruin themselves by doing that. It is so easy to feel the way Braedyn does. This character is so easy to relate to despite the supernatural atmosphere of the book. The relationship between her and Lucas is so intriguing and complex. Her dad is by far the best father ever. He loves her through everything. This book ends with a choice, and I would have made the same one she did.

This novel is supernatural, but it feels like it could happen to anyone at anytime. I think that drew me in more than anything. I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I am not much into young adult stories but I like stories with a fantasy, supernatural element in them. Jennifer Quintenz does a great job of switching between the two worlds -- present day high school and the fantasy/dream world.

Braedyn is in for a shock when she learns that she is not just another teenaged girl negotiating high school jealousies and crushes, but a half-human, half-Lilutu who is being groomed for a deadly mission, to save humans from the deadly daughters of Lilutu.

There is plenty of action in this story. But I particularly liked how Braedyn learns the lessons of humanity even as she discovers her own supernatural powers.

The vivid descriptions of the dream world are fascinating and have "made for the movies" written all over them.

I look forward to reading more in what is definitely going to be a series.

This is one RED HOT READ! Very intense and sexy. I have to say I was impressed. After being harassed by a few friends(bloggers) who had gotten the chance to read this, I was glad to be given the chance as well. It took me long to actually get to it then originally planned. I think I am a month behind.
IT definitely has appeal that everyone should want to pick it up and read it. The love story with this is very strong the characters are better together (Taylor Swift, eat your heart out kinda thing). IT makes you gasp and wanna fight to have that kind of love. There is heart break as with any love story but worth the breaking I believe.
I do have to tell you that I feel bad for Braedyn, not just having a seemingly boys name, but she has a rough go around. It's always something, sounds like my worst nightmare. Of course this is a supernatural read, but seriously real world happenings.

Wow! I had an amazingly hard time putting this book down. Even after it ended. I wanted it to keep going, and I admit, I'm a little annoyed that I have to wait for the next book. :) That's a good sign, right?

I knew the second I saw the cover that this book had to join my TBR pile. Yep, I judge books by their covers. We all do, even if we aren't willing to admit it.

Braedyn is a fascinating character. I love the way she wants to be the person she's always been, rather than immediately accepting that her life has been a lie and people are relying on her to tip the balance of a war.

All the characters are great. I particularly love Gretchen, as well as the relationship Braedyn has with her father.

Not since the Harry Potter books has a novel so quickly, so deeply captured my utmost attention, my need to read, read, read it without putting it down!
This author has quite a talent for writing dialogue, multi-dimensional characters and description that doesn't get in the way of advancing the plot.
When I read the last page, I wanted MORE!!!(I have it on good authority that Book 2 will be out by the end of 2012.)
**** SHOUT OUT TO HOLLYWOOD PRODUCERS: Look no further for a worthy successor to Harry Potter or the Twilight series. My advice? Snap up the rights to this series immediately!

This book was so much better than I thought it would be and isn't it great when you are surprised in such a way?

Thrall tells us the story of Braedyn, a 15-year-old girl who lives in Puerto Escondido with her loving father, Murphy.

She has two best friends - Royal and Cassie - and even though the three are very unique in their own way, deep down they're just normal kids going through high school and trying to survive all the drama and general bitchiness thrown their way.

But then a guy called Lucas moves out to the house next door and Braedyn's life is turned upside down.

Turns out her dad is not her biological father, soul sucking demons called Lilitu are walking around the world, attacking humans, humankind is at war with these demons, there is a secret demon-hunting 'society' called the Guard and her father is one of them, and most terrifying of all, Braedyn herself is one of the Lilitu.

The Lilitu, often knowned as succubae, are a race of ancient creatures, alluring demons descended from Lilith herself. They prey on human men, stripping them from their wills, feeding from their life force and, eventually, stealing their souls.

Braedyn's father raised her with love and affection, believing she was good and would grow to be a powerful ally in the war against the Lilitu, but how can she believe that when all the Guard believes she will show her true demon nature sooner or later? When she faces distrust and hatred from every side? When she still can't wrap her mind around who she is and the powers she possesses? When she has to be careful around the guy she loves, because a simply kiss can end his life?

Add to that feelings of betrayal, friends in trouble, the sudden attention of people who didn't even know she existed, bitches trying to ruin her life and all the high school drama, and the life of our heroine is definitely not easy.

I loved the fact that, for all her insecurities and fear of what she was, Braedyn wasn't a weak girl. She wasn't easily manipulated into allying herself to the Lilitu and she didn't turn her back on her former life just because she was the 'enemy' now.

She was loyal to the guard, but most importantly, she was loyal to whom she wanted to be and to the people she loved and that loved her, like her father, Royal and Cassie.

Another thing I absolutely loved was the relationship between her and her father, Murphy.

It was so ridiculously refreshing to have a parent that actually loves and supports his child and isn't oblivious to what is going on.

The way Murphy acted with Braedyn, the love and tenderness he showed her all the time, even when she was so angry she said and did things that hurt him, the blatant protectiveness he felt, were all the more especial because he wasn't actually her father by blood.

But that didn't matter one bit. He didn't love her any less for that, not for the fact she was from a race that was supposed to be mankind's enemy.

On the contrary, he was always there by her side, loving, protecting and making her and others see she wasn't evil.

Really, theirs is one of the most heartwarming relationships I've ever read about. Can't wait to see them together again.

I better hurry and read book two ASAP.

Review: Thrall (Daughters of Lilith #1) by Jennifer Quintenz I have never read a succubi story before. Admittedly I have a few that I haven't gotten to yet, however Thrall is my first encounter with these creatures of paranormal lore and I am so glad I said yes to reviewing it. This is the story of Braedyn Murphy, a 16 year old girl who thought she knew everything about herself and her father but learns that nothing is as it seems. Succubi are the daughters of Lilith, who if you don't know the myth is the first female God created but she didn't want to be with Adam in the garden of Eden, she wanted to be an equal. The legend goes that all these succubi are her children and the have powers that feed off the energy of men through lust and desire. Braedyn is part of a huge plot to stop these creatures from returning to the world to reek havoc on humans that don't stand a chance against them, of course she doesn't know it until that war is at her door step but what's a teenage girl to do? What I loved about this story was that it was a hodgepodge of mythology, war, angel vs demon, romance, action and adventure, family and self that mixed together to make a beautiful literary stew of awesomeness! It had so many elements going on within the story that it could have been very easy to run this train right off the tracks and get lost in some aspects versus others, but that didn't happen. The author kept us focused on one part of Braedyn at a time, whether it be friends, family, her crush on Lucas, her connection with Karayan or anything else that this story threw at her.  She told so many different stories within a bigger picture that I was actually surprised at how well all the side characters were developed enough that I could easily see where each POV was coming from without actually having multiple POVs telling the story. That's rare in this genre and really made it stand out in my eyes. I also noticed that this book was very unique. Sure, I've heard of Lilith before, anyone who has read The Mortal Instruments series has seen a myth about her, but I thought Thrall was a new story that I hadn't read about before. Fresh is what I am looking for in a genre filled with teenage coming of age stories where they don't know what they are and fall in love with someone along the way. Thrall left me wanting more, gave me characters that intrigued me and an epic battle between heaven and hell that let a heroine as good as Braedyn shine throughout it all.

An example of how good Thrall was? I usually don't read the excerpts from next book that are found at the end of a book. I figure eventually I will get to the next book and I don't want to be left hanging. In the case of Thrall I kept reading. I just had to get a bit more of the world and characters Quintenz has created.

Let's start with her characters, because they are awesome. I loved Braedyn. She just feels so real. Yes she makes mistakes, but most of them are based on her belief that her actions are going to help, not hurt, the people around her. Also her reactions to things were so human. But it wasn't just Braedyn. I kinda got attached to all the characters, even the bad ones. The way the author wove them all together, their interactions, all just made the story even better.

The world the author created that hides inside our own is well done too. The Daughters of Lilith, the Sons of Adam, and their intertwined history definitely pulls one in. Quintenz builds their worlds with enough information to satisfy, but also with enough left out to make the reader want to keep reading to find out more, a delicate balance to be sure.

The story, while part of a trilogy, could easily stand on it's own. Yes, there are unanswered questions at the end, and there are definitely threats that are still there for the Guard. But the ending isn't so much a cliffie as it is a lead in to the second novel. A novel I REALLY hope gives answers to certain questions that I'm dying to know about! The story pulled me in though from beginning to end and as I said I just couldn't get enough.

If you're a fan of YA Paranormal books, then this series might be right for you. After finding out she's the daughter of a demon, or Lilitu, on her 16th birthday, Braedyn Murphy's world is flipped upside down. Saddled with the task of helping to save the world from an upcoming attack of the Ancient Lilitu Ais and her demon army, Braedyn has to learn to fight, learn how to control her powers, and learn why she'll always be different from the man she thought was her father.

The characters are written pretty well, Lucas is (in my opinion) the stereotypical love-interest of a teenage heroine, but instead of Braedyn being a damsel in distress, she has to save Lucas (and the rest of humanity).

I was a little unsure of this book when I started reading it, mainly because it was a free book from Amazon and usually they are hit or miss when it comes to teenage/YA lit, but this picked right up. There were a couple spots here and there that were slow, and the whole underlying story with Parker and Cassie seemed like just filler to me. Amber - the human villain - is a stereotype that reminded me of the blonde girl from the House of Night Series (her name escapes me but I think it starts with an A as well...) a cheerleader who is popular, blonde, and gorgeous but super mean to the "mousy-haired" protaganist.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It took me probably a good 5 or 6 hours to finish it, but a girl's gotta sleep, so. I'm actually considering buying the next book in the series, if not the next two.

My Thoughts

Braedyn was just an average girl that blossomed into a warrior, throughout the book with little understanding of her nature/kind and fought her natural instincts to help overcome demons, the very demon that she is.

The story of the Lilitu v's The Guard/Humankind made an interesting read which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I wavered back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. The whole storyline was very original and gripping. I enjoyed the way the characters were woven together and the way things unfolded. The reason I kept wanting to go with 3 stars was the violence. It wasn't graphic, but there was a lot of it--decapitation, daggers, stabbing, beating, punching, fighting, killing, etc. I really appreciated that it wasn't graphic and although things were implied, it stayed clean.

Braedyn is just an average girl...until a secret about her life is revealed. A strange new family moves in and that only complicates things. Her life isn't anything like what she thought it was. Lucas knows more about himself, yet he's still in the dark about a lot. I loved the draw these two had towards each other and how determined they were to conquer their secrets. I loved the ending and how the epilogue set things up for more.

Content: Language: some swearing, not a ton and not any really offensive ones; Romance: The Lilitu conquers by weakening a man three times. It's implied that it's a sexual encounter, yet nothing is spelled out. Braedyn finds out it can happen by kissing. A girl spends the night with a guy and then suffers from being the school joke because of it. Kissing; Violence: mentioned above.

Thrall is an amazing book. Starts out with a pretty normal teenage girl about to turn 16: small group of friends, dealing with the bully cheerleaders at school along with the jocks, and suddenly running into a hot guy who makes her flush. This quickly changes. Braden is introduced to the world of Lilitu, or sirens, and her entire life is flipped on its head. Being told that she can’t be with the guy she wants, and not being able to tell him why, is an awful thing for a girl with her first crush. Having her body change uncontrollably and in an unwanted, but sudden, way is just one more thing that she has to deal with.
I love how the author doesn’t fall into the trap of the whiny teenagers. Teenagers today are a lot more grown up than they used to be, and listening to/reading books with super whiny teenagers just drive me crazy. Thankfully, Jennifer Quintenz did not have this problem. The teenagers in the book are pretty much just like the teenagers I run into at the store. It was very true to reality, and I liked that. I definitely give this book 5 STARS!!
**The only problem I had was in one chapter of the audio version, the audio overlapped itself a few times. It was very distracting.
