When your best friends tell you they have the perfect guy for you … run!

The only person who can help her is the FBI agent she holds responsible for her husband’s death.
FBI agent Mac McNeil can’t ignore the vow he made minutes before his best friend died: Protect Lexie. He had no idea just how complicated that promise would be. Lexie may not want him close enough to even breathe her air, but when someone goes to great lengths to frame her, Mac goes to war for her freedom.
Together, Mac and Lexie must find the courage to forgive and trust each other. Otherwise, their pride will stand in the way of a boundless love, destroying the lives of those they hold most dear.

Her favorite quote: Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. ~Thomas Edison~
Special Agent In Charge Lucas McNeil (aka Mac) finally has a love of his life in his arms and by his side. She happens to be Lexi, the widow of his best friend Rico, who died in the line of duty saving Mac's brother Jason. Rico had some pretty large secrets, one of which lands on Lexi's door the day of Rico's funeral. Through much action, thrills, and suspense, Mac and Lexi literally fight for their love. With the entire McNeil family behind them, there is no way they will lose. Unfortunately, a very crazy mad man has other ideas, especially where Lexi is concerned. He turns her world to topsy turvy when he reveals a secret that her sadistic alcoholic mother kept from her. Through many twists and unraveling several mysteries, the truth is revealed and opens the way for Lexi's heart to heal and ready for true love. Mac has a few demons of his own to wrestle and knows that Lexi is worth it all.
In Mac and Lexi, Nancy Weeks created two strong protagonists. We already knew Mac's strength as he is well established in the series from the other books. Lexi was introduced in the last book, where we saw her take on the result of her dead husband's transgression with grace and her own type of strength. Mac and Lexi's characters are truly destined to fall in love and destined to have to fight for it. When reading the book, you quickly discover why pride is the shadow element. When it comes to love, it often is the thing that can conquer love. It can also warp the mind as we see in the psychopath and a certain Senator, both of whom bring compelling twists to the storyline. Of course, the psychopath also brings a bit of terror. There is much intense drama in this story and mysteries, suspense, violent gun battles, explosions, murder, steamy sex, romance, and lots of family love.
In the Shadow of Pride are Book 4 in the Shadows and Light series. Each McNeil has their own special gift and talent that they lend willingly to support the respective agencies' mission for which they work, but more importantly, to their family. Their most intense loyalty is to family and keeping their family first. This is etched in stone in each character. You grow to love each one of the McNeils, rooting for their causes as well as for them to find love and happiness. This book was no different. In the Shadow of Vengence is Book 5 in the series, and I can hardly wait to read it!

The Shadows and Light series by Nancy C. Weeks is one of my favorite series. The men are strong passionate people who love their jobs and their families. The women are equally strong and driven. In The Shadow Of Pride is Mac McNeil's and Lexi's story. Their story sucked me into the action, drama and romance quickly.
Mac McNeil is Special Agent-in-Charge. He is his brother Jason's and his partner Rico’s, boss. When Jason is injured and Rico is killed, Mac steps up to keep a promise to Rico to look after Lexi.
Lexie Trevena was only married 20 months before Rico's death. While he was undercover she is working on degree in Engineering, at the University of Texas. Lexi blames Mac for Rico's death. He didn't stop him from going undercover.
The day she buries Rico a lawyer shows up at Lexi's door with two day old baby Gabriel, Rico's baby. The mother was a drunken mistake and neither she nor her family would accept Gabriel. Rico had promised to raise the baby when he was born. Lexi adopts her husband's son.
Lexi and Mac both are attracted but neither says anything. In fact Lexi isn't willing to admit she is attracted to Mac. This is where the story begins to move quickly. From here on out I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. This story is gripping with twist after twist. There is a bank robbery, a stolen drone, a missile launch, kidnappings, assaults, car chases, crashes and long lost relatives. The story is packed action and thrills.
Mac and Lexi have wonderful chemistry. She is a strong woman and does what she wants, even if it pushes all of Mac's buttons. He loves and hates that she challenges him. Mac shows her his tender side and is such a good caretaker for Gabriel but he also knows how to center her. He is able to share his strength with her.
When thinking back on the the story I don't think there is one thing I would change. I love the story and have nothing but great things to say about it.
I have to start by saying, if you haven’t read any books by Nancy C. Weeks, then you are missing out on some amazing books. She has quickly became my favorite romantic suspense author and this is my favorite series from her. All of the McNeil men are hot, alpha males that you can’t help falling for. Each book is centered around a different couple, but we get to catch up with the others, which I love. This book features Lucas “Mac” McNeil and Lexie Trevena. Lexie gets a shock on the day she buries her husband, Rico. Rico has a son from a one-night stand and the mother doesn’t want the baby boy. Lexie becomes an instant mother. Mac was Rico’s boss and friend. He has had a thing for Lexie for years. Will he finally out on it? You know he will, but how do things turn out? I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say this book kept me flipping the pages as fast as I could to see what happened. Do yourself a favor and grab your copy and get ready to find a new author to love or become better acquainted with.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
The man didn’t know how to stay out of her life. Lexie Trevena is working as an engineer in addition to being a single mother to her late husband’s illegitimate son. Two years after the funeral she’s minding her own business when Mac McNeil, FBI special agent, steps back into her life. A simple bank appointment turns into terrifying moments with Lexie as a hostage until she uses self-defense moves drilled into her during her marriage. Mac can’t ignore here when the next case involves a weapons capable drone stolen from the developer and then launched from Lexie’s workstation. This solid base supports multiple situations including Mac’s family, Lexie’s loyal friends and forced close proximity between Lexie and the man she’d love to hate – but discovers much more of the former. I enjoyed the blend and balance of action and romance. I’ll be putting others in this series on my “to be read” stack.
Exciting thriller with a young mother, an FBI agent, his FBI family, and a terrorist. Lexi is in love with her baby - the baby she didn't give birth to, but loved and protected as if she did.
She has a running feud with her late husband's partner, Mac. She does run into him from time to time and always has her back up.
Together, they get drawn into a mysterious crime, that turns into a terrorist action. It gets more and more involved and when it gets violent, the terror builds.
Well written story that keeps you involved to the end. This book actually looks a lot like the reality that the country has encountered in recent months.
I was provided a copy of this book for my honest review.
Nancy brings another book filled with action, love and family beautifully crafted into one book.
This is the 4th book in her Shadow and Light Series. I've only read Book 3 so some of the back characters are unknown to me. I suggest reading from the beginning to get the whole picture, although not necessary.
With that said, this book can be read as a standalone.
It is a nice story on how can work through grief, putting up walls and have the capacity of the heart to forgive and love once more.
Talk about a hard fought battle of two people falling in love! Lexie Trevana and Mac McNeil both win this fight. Yes, pride is in the title of this book (In the Shadow of Pride) and both of these main characters had a lot of pride getting in the way of their HEA. Thank goodness they came to their senses. I liked how strong both Lexie and Mac are. Lexie's love for and dedication to her adopted son is admirable. This is a super suspense story with lots of action. It adds much to the series Shadows and Light by Nancy C. Weeks.
Lexie and Rico and Rico’s best friend, Mac - what an insane trio! This book has a superb plot with wonderful characters (strong, smart men AND women) and realistic dialogue. Thrilling story, lots of action, plenty of romance, satisfying ending. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book with no strings attached.
I have just finished In the shadow of Pride and as always Nancy's boos are great stories to read. There is action packed chapters...budding romance and denials! Nancy's books touch the heart like very few authors can.
What a suspenseful story. Lexie’s life is a bit upside down right. A dead husband who cheated and had a child with someone else. What could possibly happen next. Thoroughly intriguing. I wrote this upon receiving a complementary copy as I absolutely loved it.
In the Shadow of Pride by Nancy C. Weeks will have you holding your breath while turning pages until the very end of the book - then you can breathe! Lexie and Mac seem to be on each other's nerves from the very beginning. There is tension and animosity from their first meeting in the book. Lexie has just buried her husband, an FBI agent killed on the job. Mac was his best friend and partner. The problem is, Lexie seems to appear when there is trouble and danger. She is at the bank when the FBI has a sting operation in place. Her computer seems to be the controller for a stolen drone that attacked a prominent politician. She seems to attract danger. Little does she know, she is the target of a terrorist.
This is a story that will keep you turning pages well into the night. The plot and characters are well developed. This story has everything - terrorist, danger, kidnapping - and even romance. I received and advance reader copy of this story and I always review every book that I read. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy.
Wow. If you want fast-paced action, this is the book for you. Lexie Trevena lost her husband in the line of duty. She hated his job and the FBI, especially Special-Agent-in-Charge Luke "Mac" McNeil. After she buries her husband, she finds out he cheated on her, and she adopts his child. She vows to let no man into her life. Mac McNeil loved Lexie from the moment he met her, but his best friend married her. When the two get together, sparks fly, both angry and loving. This story is full of surprises, and the characters are complex and riveting. I highly recommend this book.
Lexie Trevena is one of my all time favorite heroines! She bold and smart, and she's dedicated to her small family and her friends. This author developed each of her characters so completely they became part of my dreams! But sleeping is difficult when reading any of the Shadow and Light series. I just couldn't put this one down. And every detail is precise. I just can't say enough about this book.

Some interesting twists in this story, right from the very beginning. I mean, really? A funeral? That was different. An it kept on being different. A grab-you-and-don't-let-go read. I had to put it down, life happened, but I sure didn't want to. I really liked this one.
