Fred's not the only one to have taken a liking to Sue: Jane's brother Ron also shows his admiration for her. But Sue's main love is dancing. She and Jane are always to be found at the local dance hall and when one memorable night the band brings in a new singer, Cy Noble, Sue can't help falling for him. Cy fails to tell her he is married, taking advantage of her naivety, and they spend a wild night together. But reality hits hard after the dance. Cy moves on and Sue is devastated to find out she is pregnant. Her parents are horrified when they find out, and just when she thinks things couldn't be worse, tragedy strikes. Will Sue ever find the love and happiness she craves?

About the author

Dee Williams grew up in Rotherhithe, East London, and left school at fourteen. After living abroad, she settled in Hampshire with her husband, where she remains active as a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness while staying close to her family.

This was a great book to listen to.

This is the story of Sue Carver and is set in Rotherhithe England in 1935. She lives at home with her parents and grandmother and works for Fred Hunt a local car dealer and has a good friend next door Jane.

Jane and Sue love to go dancing where Sue, along with a lot of other girls has fallen in love with a singer who sometimes plays at the town hall, Cy Taylor. On Christmas Eve Sue goes dancing without Jane and gets to meet Cy and he kisses her and she thinks she is definitely in love. She arranges to meet him at a hotel and after the rendezvous when he moves on she is very upset.

In the meantime Fred is in love with Sue but does not know how to get up the courage to tell her, he is worried about their 14 year age gap. Jane’s brother Ron is also in love with her.

Tragedy strikes Sue and she wonders how anyone will ever be able to love her now.

I am glad to say that is has a happy ending.

Set in the 1930’s, best friends Sue and Jane enjoy going to the dancing on a Saturday night. Sue fancies the lead singer of a popular band and decides to catch his attention. Meanwhile Sue’s boss Fred has been keeping his feelings about her a secret.
