Through Mellissa, the kids will learn to be polite. The story is told in a nice rhythmic way and has lovely illustrations. Good story to be read to children.

Melissa, a self-absorbed little girl, does things her way, rudely and with no care for the consequences - until they affect her. Saddened at being snubbed, she has a life-changing discussion with her mother who offers some wise advice and a behavior check-list. Because Melissa was given an alternative that she takes to heart, she learns that having good manners is rich in rewards, for herself and everyone around her.
This is the fourth book in Cole’s series of Social Emotional Books for kids, each which it’s own gentle and relevant message. The Good Manners story, told in descriptive and meaningful rhyme, is easy for young readers to understand. For parents and teachers it is a nice opportunity to impart important life lessons that reinforce kind behavior. The illustrations are vivid and lively, the characters are fun and animated. The topic, handled nicely by Cole, is well worth having in your child’s or school’s library.

I have read a few of Elizabeth Cole’s books in the My way: Social Emotional Books for Kids series, so I was pretty sure that this would be another great children’s book. I wasn’t disappointed.
Melissa has bad manners. In fact, they’re so bad that her classmates won’t play with her. When Melissa comes home upset, her mom suggests she works on having good manners, but she isn’t sure how to change. Her mom makes her a list which she uses all the time to find out the right thing to say or do. She realizes that having good manners isn’t difficult and that if she is nice to others, they will be nice to her. Eventually, the good manners become habit, and she doesn’t need the list anymore.
The story is told in rhymes and the illustrations are cute and colorful. It helps children to learn about good manners and ways to be nice rather than rude or obnoxious.

Melissa is not very well liked because she has poor manners. Her and her mother work together to make a list of things that she can do differently utilizing good manners.
I was very impressed with Melissa‘s change of heart and willingness to work on changing her behavior. She was polite waiting in line and helping others. She complimented another child on their pretty dress! She began using please and thank you. She also was considerate cleaning up after herself.
I think good manners are wonderful to teach children at any age. This rhyming book with colorful illustrations will help get the message across about what good manners are as well as about being kind and nice in public.

great story for kids to learn about good manners
Melissa doesn’t have good manners. Sometimes she is rude to her classmates…She realizes something needs to change when her friends reject her. With the help of her mom and the list of good manners she made, Melissa is able to fix her behavior.
I think this books will benefit every child who wants to learn more about etiquette and good manners.

Great story!
This is a wonderful story. It was a brilliant idea to have the young girl make a list of proper behavior that she could refer to at all times. My kids enjoyed the book and they are interested to see how being kind may have a significant impact on one's life. Lovely illustrations too!

Excellent book to teach kids manners
This is a nice story about what it means to have good manners. At the beginning, Melissa displays bad manners and her family is not happy about it. Then, she is given a list of what good manners are and puts it into practice. She is happy with the results and soon doesn’t need the list. Very bright colorful illustrations.

Manners yay!
So many children are lacking manners today, we need to begin teaching them when they are small. This a wonderful introduction to what manners are and the purpose they serve. Kids will love the rhyming text and cute illustrations. Another good one Elizabeth!

Manners are so important!
