Standing When Others Fall

Rate this book
When you are the last beacon of freedom, you never run out of enemies.

Having survived more hard-won victories, the forces arrayed against Nick Angriff and the 7th Cavalry are greater than ever. A resurgent China has no intention of giving up the west coast of North America, and is sending reinforcements to their hard-pressed troops there. In North Dakota, the communes of Operation Evolution are gathering new strength to replace the men killed fighting the 7th Cavalry, and the cartels of Mexico are discussing an alliance to fend off any American attempts to destroy them. And the Sevens are still in Texas, knowing they must find a way to defeat Angriff's forces or be destroyed forever.

Stretched to the breaking point, the 7th Cavalry is surrounded by the same enemies, foreign and domestic, who destroyed America once before. The difference this time is that the Americans have Nick Angriff leading them, and unknown to Angriff, he has allies...

Worth the wait

Standing When Others Fall was worth the wait. Excellent story from start to finish with the different storylines. Nick is the great leader and family man that we all enjoy reading about. Looking forward to books 8 and 9. Highly recommended

Good books with good stories.

I've read and enjoyed these books, sometimes frustrated by simple things, yet ultimately finding reasons to continue.
The authors use comments at the beginning, as well as epilogues are explanations of where he is or was at during particular phases of his life, and identify the human aspects he encounters while writing these stories. He identifies his humanity to all, and you can see that in the books.
The characters may seem sometimes one dimensional, and yes it seems that the good does indeed always win out, but Webb does hit you with losses of characters which hurt. His stories seem sometimes a bit repetitive, with another bad element cropping up again and again, and many times having multiple bad guys striking at the same time from different directions, which seems unusual. But maybe it's not... The fog of war, the inability to understand the inhumanity of terrorists (the use of human shields and burning captives to prevent actions by the good guys) all remind us of how inhumane we can be.
I'm glad to see the comeuppance received by various characters, particularly Tom Steeple. I remain interested in seeing how he finishes the story of this generation of the Angriff family, and completing the removal of the Caliphate, the PRC, the Rosos group, and the rest.
Needless to say, I'm going to try some of the other collaborations in this Last Brigade Universe, as I've followed another independent author, Michael Anderle and his similar efforts with the Kurtherian Universe for a number of years.
William keep on writing, but maybe develop a better proofreading team, as the last 2 books had more noticeable than the earlier ones. Spell check (and grammar check) are tools which sometimes still need the "person at the controls."

excellent book almost a five

Good book, but I wish it was longer. I also wish that the MC had made contact with the naval units in Alaska and the Chinese in Hawaii. There was some inconsistencies in the book which took me out of the story for a bit. Those inconsistencies were during the battle against the drug Lords. First of all the battle started at night because they used night vision goggles, then the author says it’s in the daytime Then the author says it says it’s night again. The other issue I have is that the fleeing drug dealers are shot according to the author several times. How do they still keep running. I love to see the character of nipple develop more. The author says he writes by the seat of his pants so, put your big boy pants on and give us some more Nicole Bauer. And I hope I’m remembering correctly, but in the earlier books, the author wrote that Nikki killed 11 drug dealers then in later books it was downgraded to nine, which one is it? I understand the effort in using text to speech software because I use it myself so I implore you to just keep on plugging away, as long as your health and faculties allow you to, don’t overdo it. Excellent story. Not quite a five but most definitely a four. If people haven’t read the series please do so in fact, read all the books in the LBU.

Curse you A.I. job thief’s

Lay I know you several reasons from have to use speech to text software and moving away from publishing companies, there where several grammar/text issues that I found need to be fixed. I’ll just show a few do you can do a once over if the book later to fix them and others’.

1. Page 32 you prepared this sentence twice “As the voice from Beijing continued, it revealed that a new communist government had arisen after decades of civil war. The voice requested a status report on the Chinese forces in Hawaii and expressed the intent to send supply ships within the next few weeks.”.

2. Page 87 new profit -> New Prophet. Do I also realized that might have been intentional for the person speaking said he wasn’t sure he said the name right.

Most of the other things where minor gamer issues like using me instead of I. Do getting off the grammar the story was another masterpiece now I just gotta wait to I can listen to the audiobook when ever it come out.

Two words. PROOF READING!
I loved the story and how it is proceeding. But all the places where word order was not logical really made it hard to suspend my disbelief. There were a lot of instances where the same thought was expressed in two different ways and no final decision was made. Places where I had to insert a word that obviously should have been there but wasn't. PLEASE find some reliable people to proof read your manuscripts! When I first started buying paperbacks I NEVER saw errors like this. In fact, it wasn't until the advent of electronic publishing that it became a problem. But now it's a real problem. I'm not a trained editor and have never worked as a proof reader but I'll do it. I've been a read-a-holic for 55 years or more. I know when there's a problem with the text. I won't catch everything but I will catch a LOT! Whether you use me or not, please use somebody.

While I have enjoyed all the books of the main series(not so much the spin off) waiting until May of 2025 for the next installment may cause me to pass on it. While I fully realize and respect it takes time for the Author to produce a quality work(like this book). Maybe they should concentrate on doing that instead of producing mediocre “side books”about what happened prior to it white key characters. I won’t hold my breath or wait patiently for the next book of this series. I may or may not pay attention when it comes out. More than likely the latter.

Fun read

I have enjoyed this series. This was an excellent installment. It is a good story that's well written. The only ding I can give it. Is the editing not as good as in the past. There were several grammatical and spelling errors. It did not take fron the story, but it was noticeable.

Boring

The editing was somewhat better. I still think the author loses track of what he has already written. The Chinese lt getting promoted to major, then a few paragraphs later, he is still referred to as a lt. The whole Hawaii story line seemd to be a waste. Almost like a new book needed to be produced so he wrote that.

Great series. Book seems rushed

Found several chapters where the paragraph ends in the middle of a action or speech. Also a later chapter seemed out of order. Overall still enjoyable and look forward to next chapter of the series and the expanded universe.

Another great story, my one and only complaint is they take too long to get released.

I have read all the stories that are out as of 7/14/2024. I own all of the 7th Brigade, and Zombie books plus all the attached stories

A Continuing Good Saga

The expanded operational theaters have expanded the story lines for all our favorite characters. The branches are all calling for more books.

I was glad this book finally made it to the market, it seemed take years to get there. I was glad to see many of the characters made it into the next novel along with some new characters.

Loss of story lines

I got washed away dealing with the story of the Chinese pla or pnp in Hawaii as just too implausible.

Successes continue but there is much more to do. Nick’s army now has a navy and an air force. He will need them as the conflict expands to the East in the US and goes global across the Pacific.
