This is an extremely difficult play, maybe the most grotesque and scary play I’ve read. Outside of the obvious legendary spectacle of this play, it’s really really excellent particularly in the stage directions, dialogue, and ensemble.
The second half is particularly disturbing in jts clarity of rhetoric and in how everyone becomes compeltely dysfunctional without being able to name it correctly. They all made a decision together that they thought would make life easier; no one is willing to accept that it made everything so much more difficult. The drama of this is so incredible and moving and universal.
I want to hate this play because of how bad it made me feel and how much pain it caused me to read it. But it is truly exceptional.
The chocolate eating scene was very intense and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
