Comunque lettura veloce.

Dramatic. Unforgettable. Quite different from the previous books in the series.

I really enjoyed the first few chapters of this book, because of the heady mix of Gothic elements and a hair-raising evocation of the mobilization of the troops on the French side in August 1914. However, the story becomes increasingly far-fetched, and it's hard to remain interested in how the gallant Frenchman Paul Delroze is going to avenge his father and practically defeat the Kaiser all by himself. This novel has some historical interest in the sense that it was written in 1915, and is therefore a piece of propaganda that can be studied as such. But you have a be a die-hard fan of Arsène Lupin to finish this novel.

* رواية مثيرة ومليئة بالغموض والتشويق، صور لنا الكاتب وقائع وأهوال الحرب، وكيف كان يفكر كل من الطرفين [ فألمانيا ] كانت متعطشة لسفك الدماء بينما [ فرنسا ] تدافع عن نفسها بشرف، وكل حرب لا تخلوا من الجواسيس حيث بيّن الكاتب طريفة تفكيرهم.
* أحببتُ الرواية بكل تفاصيلها، كنت مُتحمسة جدًا لكل صفحة أقرأها.
* النهاية أعجبتني جدًا وكانت منصفة .
* الترجمة ممتازة .

This was clearly written at the height of World War I. The Germans are demonized, the French are heroes, and the sickening violence of the war is evident. Lupin is only incidentally involved. In fact one wonders if this was originally a non-Lupin novel that was retrospectively put in to the canon. Like all the Lupin books I've read in French so far, it is a page turner, though it gets more far-fetched as it progresses, and becomes more and more like propaganda. But it is a useful piece of literature for understanding the time in which it was written.

I'm unsure if I have read these books out of order or am missing something more profound than my comprehension but I found this book lacking almost every since of Maurice Leblanc's writings. The only reason I did not put it down (as I do most uninteresting books) is that Arsene Lupin could be one of my favorite characters of all time. But where is he? Not here.

One of my favorite books i've read! 4.8

(Note: Lupin is basically not in the novel, he appears only once)

The mistery is very intriguing, and the villain has many faces and desguises, but to defeat her the hero is a strong man with a sharp mind, quick reflexes( and plot armor).
Like every Lupin book the plot twists are top-tier and it was a page turner for me, i wanted to kow what would happen next every time. Some people have stated that this is propaganda for WW1 France, but i don't know enough about WW1 to say what i think about that.

Although this volume is listed as being in the Arsene Lupin series, it actually is not. Once I ceased wondering what the story had to do with Lupin, I really enjoyed it. Leblanc paints a wonderful tale of WWI in France, twined together with the mystery surrounding the murder of main character Paul's father.

Wonderful entertaining listening 🔰😀

Another will written French mystery thriller adventure novel by Maurice LeBlanc with interesting will developed characters. The story line is intense with lots of misdirection and action leading to 👍the conclusion. I would recommend this novel to readers of mysteries. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or 🎶listening to novels 🔰🏡🗼⌚2022

I spent half the book looking for Lupin and then I finally checked the other reviews to find it's really not a part of that series at all (though his name is mentioned once). On the whole, it was an interesting mystery, and it does read similar to Lupin.

NOT PART OF THE ARSENE LUPIN CANON I want to clear this because there is some confusion as to if this is considered a AL book or not.

It is evident that Leblanc is tiered of writing Lupin novels and is adding unrelated books in the series only to benefit by Lupin's popularity.

The last three books (the Confessions of Arsene Lupin, the Woman in Mystery, The Golden Triangle) are a copy of each other. (A woman that crossdresses as a man, a dead relative that is actually alive but actually is the villain who has taken their place, a new protagonist that is a copy of Lupin but without any charm or redeeming qualities...)

I understand that these final two books were written during the war, so it was a dark period but all the fun and passion has left from the writing and all that remains is hate, propaganda, misogyny and male pride.

I think the series should have ended on the Teeth of the Tiger, still not one of the best books but it made me feel like I was reading an AL book and it finished on an optimistic note.

Czy ktoś z Was puściłby wolno mężczyznę, który siła by "wziął" Wasza żonę?

Review on Spanish.

I don't understand anything. Like how is this supposed to be connected with Arsene Lupin? Like I guess certain times it lets you know Peter has a secret but I don't get it, it doesn't feel at all like Arsene and it doesn't match up with all the things we know of him.

How can this possibly be in the same series as the other Lupins when Lupin himself manages so successfully to avoid all contact with this plot? Also I refuse to respect a character called Karl the Spy.
